Ridgewood Legend Honored: Heermance Place Officially Renamed “Pizzuto Way” at RHS

The heart of Ridgewood is getting a new landmark.

Some educators leave a mark on a school building; Basil Pizzuto left one on an entire generation. In a permanent tribute to a man whose influence stretched far beyond the classroom, Ridgewood High School (RHS) has announced the official renaming of Heermance Place to Pizzuto Way.

Basil Pizzuto was a wonderful educator, beloved colleague and mentor to many during his 24-year career at Ridgewood High School.  He leaves a profound legacy and we feel his loss keenly.

Basil Pizzuto, an Assistant Principal at Ridgewood High School, died Suddenly on Wednesday

Ridgewood NJ Basil Pizzuto, an assistant principal at Ridgewood High School, died on Wednesday November 23rd of an aortic aneurysm just one day shy of his 50th birthday . Incident response protocols were activated immediately following reports of Pizzuto passing out. Pizzuto was an assistant principal at Ridgewood High School, a Saddle Brook Volunteer Fire Fighter and  the leader of St. Philip’s Music Ministry.
