Ridgewood Pedestrian Plaza Suspended for the Month of August

Ridgewood NJ, according to Village Manager  Keith Kazmark  the pedestrian plaza in Ridgewood is being suspending for the month of August.
In a Facebook post Kazmark said , “With overwhelming support from our community, the Ridgewood Village Council brought back dining corrals, year-round outdoor dining and the pedestrian plaza this summer. Initially, the response to the pedestrian plaza was very good, with many people coming out to support it. Most importantly, it was well received by the community and our businesses.

Ridgewood NJ, on Friday evenings there is music in the air, The Ridgewood Guild provides the town with volunteer musicians. This wonderful program adds a new dimension to town and helps to support the arts. Single vocalists, as well as 4-piece bands are positioned in front of our restaurants and high traffic areas, filling the air with music. Auditions start in early May. Multiple downtown Ridgewood parking spaces needlessly blocked off every Sunday through Friday through October 9

Ridgewood NJ, we’d like to know the name of the Village employee who decided it was okay to block off nine revenue-generating, premium parking spaces every Sunday through Friday so that the vehicle stop barriers used when the pedestrian plaza is set up on Saturday could be kept nearby.

Medical Episode Triggers a Crash into 3 Parked Cars in Ridgewood Central Business District

Ridgewood NJ, a medical episode may have triggered a four (4) vehicle, chain reaction, Tuesday afternoon, 07/18, crash on Cottage Place in Ridgewood. The driver of a Honda SUV, who may have experienced a medical episode, was transported to The Valley Hospital by ambulance. A flatbed tow truck removed the Honda SUV and one of the three (3) struck parked vehicles from the scene. The owners of every damaged parked vehicle were participating in a bridge tournament at a nearby church. Ridgewood Police is investigating the crash. Ridgewood Fire Department firefighters mitigated a crash related fluid spill and provided EMS.

Ridgewood Pedestrian Plaza Scaled Back to Saturdays Only

Ridgewood NJ, at the Village Council meeting it was announced by the new Village Manager Keith Kazmark – The Pedestrian Plaza will be on Saturdays only through October 9.  No more Sundays effective Sunday, July 9.  “Scaled back” was how the statement was worded.

The Rain Held and the 113th Annual Ridgewood Fourth of July Parade was a Huge Success

Ridgewood NJ, the rain held and the 113th annual Fourth of July parade was a huge success. The large crowd was in for a treat .Long time Ridgewood Football Coach Chuck Johnson was the Grand Marshall . The Saddle River and Midland Park Fire Department ladder trucks held the huge flag over Ridgewood Avenue . Ridgewood Police Lt. Heath James and his family led off his last parade after 27 years of service. Councilmember Lorraine Reynolds had her own cheering section . Ridgewood Chinese Association wowed them. Local Photography Boyd Loving took time out to pose for a photo with his lovely wife . Darth Vader made a special appearance  and there are still some cars that are unsafe at any speed.

Ridgewood NJ, The 4th Of July Parade is scheduled to kick off at 10am Tuesday Morning. Ridgewood Police remind everyone to be aware that some of the roadways close as early as 8am and plan accordingly. Roads that will be affected are marked on the maps.

The Ridgewood YMCA’s Pedestrian Plaza 4th of July Weekend!

Ridgewood NJ, during the Pedestrian Plaza, all of the streets from Walnut Street to Broad Street, along East Ridgewood Avenue, including the side streets of Oak Street, Chestnut Street, and Prospect Street, will be closed to vehicular traffic.  There will be activities, classes, children’s activities, carnival rides, bands, and performers throughout the Pedestrian Plaza on both days.  Many Eateries will have chairs and tables in the street, and several retail merchants will have merchandise for sale in the streets.  Parking is available in the Hudson Street Garage (on the corner of Broad Street and Hudson Street), in the Prospect Street lot, in the Chestnut Street lot, in the Walnut Street lot, and in the Cottage Place lot.  Come to shop, dine, and enjoy at the Pedestrian Plaza this season.

Ridgewood NJ, during Wednesday night’s Village Council Public Work Session, Village of Ridgewood CFO and Parking Utility Director Robert Rooney publicly announced that the Village’s only full-time Parking Enforcement Officer recently submitted her resignation effective June 30, 2023. Additionally, Ridgewood’s only part-time Parking Enforcement Officer just quit after being on the job for only 2 days.

Ridgewood NJ, while the Village  Council  spent some where around $60,000 for new “squirrel proof” garbage cans  to spruce up the downtown ,contrary to popular belief they don’t empty themselves . The fact is the central business district continues to look shabby due to the lack of routine maintenance . Residents ask where are the street sweepers , and with the pedestrian mall every weekend street cleaning is needed now more than ever.
