What You Should Know About American Patriotism

66189818 10219781333790961 4803864012259328000 n1

Like a strong marriage, most Americans love their country for better or for worse. For a proud American, patriotism goes beyond national celebrations and knowing the lyrics of the national anthem. It is a love for the values of the country and what they stand for. It’s the appreciation of the freedom that America fought so hard for, to pass down to generation after generation. This love is displayed in different ways; from defending the country in dire times to showing unity when things seem to polarize.

Reader asks So the The Gadsden flag is Ok for the 4th of July Parade then ?

Gadsden_flag_theridgewoodblog

The New Jersey Tea Party Coalition has marched in the Ridgewood Fourth of July Parade every year for at least the last five years. The administrators of the parade would not have permitted this without having determined in advance that the NJTPC, in so marching, is not acting to promote a political agenda. Councilman Voigt has determined in his infinite wisdom that the six-color crowd is not acting politically when it raises its flag on village property. (Presumably his next move will be to try and force the parade committee to allow the six-color crowd to march in support of their chosen lifestyle in the parade.) Based on Councilman Voigt’s logic, should we not expect him to vote “yes” when the NJTPC petitions the council to permit its flag to be raised and displayed all day every day during Tea Party Pride Month?

The Chairs are Out for the 106th Ridgewood Fourth of July Parade

Ridgewood NJ,  Ridgewood residents have a tradition of their own they start setting out chairs along the Fourth of July Parade route on North Maple Avenue as early as this weekend.

The placing of chairs along the parade route is a village tradition dating back over 50 years. While we do get complainers generally is a lot of fun and often a  bit competitive over spots .

The Police leave the chairs alone and some people tie their chairs together, to keep them together and from blowing out into the street.

Normally by July 3, most of the route for this year’s 106th annual Ridgewood Fourth of July Parade will be lined from beginning to end with chairs.

The parade starts at 10 a.m. July 4, and the theme of this year’s parade, “America the Beautiful ,Celebrating 100 Years of our National Parks.”

Please join us for the 106th annual Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration on Monday, July 4th, 2016.

The theme for the Parade this year is “America the Beautiful – Celebrating 100 Years of our National Parks”  Our theme this year honors the creation of the National Park Service through the Organic Act of 1916 signed by President Woodrow Wilson and originated by President Theodore Roosevelt.

Each year, the Fourth of July Celebration Committee chooses a theme that celebrates a certain aspect of American history or culture. The theme also serves as the basis for the float competition held among the town’s elementary schools.

12:54 PMRidgewood NJ, Ridgewood PD officers, led by Lieutenant William Amoruso (uniformed white shirt with hat in photos), investigate an incident in which a parade participant fell off of a parade float and sustained a serious head injury.  The victim walked on her own power to a nearby ambulance, but was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.  The parade was halted while the victim was attended to and police also removed the float and pickup truck that was towing it from the parade.  The incident occurred in the intersection of Oak Street and East Ridgewood Avenue.  Paramedics from The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood also attended to the victim.  Police on the scene were observed checking all paperwork associated with the pickup truck and towed trailer involved.  Both vehicles were observed parked at a nearby Mason’s Hall following the parade’s finish.  No word on whether any summonses were issued in connection with the incident.unnamed-27

Street Department Gears Up for 4th of July Parade

>Unsung Heroes :This is a new column on the Ridgewood Blog devoted to all those people who most of us only notice when something goes wrong ,but most days things work so we never pay any attention.

The Street Department wants you to know that they are getting the town spruced up for the 4th of July parade ,by patching roads, sweeping the streets, cleaning storm drains. Also, puting out 350 barricades thru the parade route, so there is safety. On rainy days and storms they constantly are cleaning low line areas to compile with the regulations so there is no additional flooding in the streets.
