Ridgewood NJ, in what many in Ridgewood would say was 100 years in the making the ,the official groundbreaking ceremony, of the Hudson Street Parking garage took place on Saturday September 7th at 9:00 a.m.
” There should also be penalties for the pedestrians who just walk out in front of cars while not looking either way. It should be mandatory that they take caution and pay attention while walking. I was making a turn onto Ridgewood Avenue the other day and a woman walked out in front of me from between the first car–illegally parked at corner–without looking. Fortunately I was able to slam on my brakes but she never once looked up from her phone. The entire burden of caution should not be placed solely on drivers. The pedestrians who think they have the right of way–even against a red light–should also receive a fine or punishment of some sort! I have another question as well. Where did the pedestrians think that it is a great idea to walk behind a car that is backing up? No one ever stops for a backing car and it is very likely that the driver cannot see them when they suddenly appear behind the car. “

Luthcke asked parents to discourage this behavior and voiced concerns for the kids as well as residents safety.

Ridgewood NJ, the Glen Rock Starbucks manager Alicia SaigeWhalen made this post on the “it takes a Ridgewood Village” Facebook page warning about groups of kids on bikes vandalizing the downtown.
“Attention moms and dads, I’m the glen rock Starbucks manager, but on behalf of the downtown Ridgewood Starbucks I just want to make sure parents are aware. There is a large group of children who plan on riding their bikes through Ridgewood this Saturday around 2pm. Last time they did this, they vandalized the downtown Ridgewood Starbucks and broke a sink in their bathroom. They ride throughout the town causing dangerous traffic conditions and run through stores knocking stuff over, wrecking flower beds, and playing chicken with cars. This causes dangerous situations for themselves and others. They plan to have the police involved to keep your children and the community safe. Just be aware and check in with your kids.”

“What is wrong with everyone? Cities with great access to public transportation need to grow through efficient, multi unit housing like this project. Cars need to vanish! This is good for tax base, local business, community diversity, etc. Someone wrote “donate the land”. Would you do that if you owned the property? Come on! Sounds like Bernie to me!”
“Cars will not vanish and you know it. You’re tellin me that the apartment dwellers won’t have cars. You know they will. Who says the apt. dweller on Broad street has to work in NYC? Even if they work in NYC on weekends and even during the week they will drive around Joisey. Even to local supermarkets, they will drive their SUVs. They won’t be pushin groceries up East Ridgewood Ave. in a cart. They will use their car as much as you use yours. The residents in Ridgewood who work in NYC still use their cars. What will happen to Ridgewood is just the OPPOSITE of what you say. There will be tons more Traffic, cars, SUVs you name it. It will be hellish to drive here. Hey, it already is hellish to drive in Ridgewood. Unlike you I cannot predict what impact a hellish neighborhood traffic situation will have on people wanting to move here. I sure wouldn’t move here. I moved here in the 1970s when traffic was , not entirely, but much more peaceful. Would I move here now, NO.”
