Hackensack NJ, The United States has begun to roll out COVID-19 vaccines in an effort to help stop the pandemic. Millions of people will line up across the country to get the vaccine, expected to be approved by the U.S. government.

For many, we’ve never really thought about the approval process that every vaccine, including the COVID-19 vaccine, must go through before getting approved for public use. It’s an extensive and rigorous process to ensure it’s safe before it can be distributed to the community.

Ridgewood NJ, in a new a new National Bureau of Economic Research paper says the media here in the U.S. went too far and created a climate of fear and even panic. In their paper titled “Why Is All COVID-19 News Bad News?” Scholars from Dartmouth College and Brown University analyzed the tone of COVID-19 related news articles written since January 1. They found a big difference in the way US media covered the pandemic compared to media in other countries.

Ridgewood Superintendent of Schools Outline COVID-19 Response

Ridgewood NJ,  at last Mondays Ridgewood BOE meet in the during the Superintendents report Dr. Fishbein provided a COVID-19 update and explained that the district continues to monitor the COVID activity in our community and surrounding areas. Many districts around us have transitioned to remote learning for a significant period of time. While we have had to pivot to remote learning in some buildings, most of those schools will reopen for in-person instruction this week. We have been successful by following contact tracing and guidelines of the NJDOH in collaboration with the Village of Ridgewood Health Department. As a result of all of the surrounding schools that are closing, the district is, however, starting to experience staffing issues, and we will closely monitor this situation.

Ridgewood NJ, according to the National Restaurant Association the number of restaurants in America that will close their doors for good could be as many as 10,000 in the next three weeks. The National Restaurant Association is lobbying Congress to pass new stimulus efforts that can stave off restaurant closures as the pandemic continues and perhaps reverse some of the 110,000 closures that have already occurred in 2020.

Ridgewood NJ, In the United States, there is not yet an authorized or approved vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The federal government, through Operation Warp Speedexternal , has been working since the pandemic started to make one or more COVID-19 vaccines available as soon as possible. Although CDC does not have a role in developing COVID-19 vaccines, CDC has been working closely with health departments and partners to develop vaccination plans for when a vaccine is available.

With the possibility of one or more COVID-19 vaccines becoming available before the end of the year, here are things you need to know about where those plans currently stand.

Residents Who Choose to Receive a COVID-19 Vaccine will be Enrolled into the New Jersey Immunization Information System

Trenton NJ,  In preparation for the arrival of COVID-19 vaccines to New Jersey, Governor Phil Murphy signed Executive Order No. 207, which automatically enrolls residents who choose to receive a COVID-19 vaccine into the state’s existing vaccine registry. The Governor’s Executive Order changes inclusion into the New Jersey Immunization Information System from an opt-in to an opt-out program for residents who elect to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. That group of residents will be automatically enrolled into the system, and will then be permitted to opt-out of the registry 30 days after the public health emergency expires. Currently, all individuals born on or after January 1, 1998 are automatically enrolled in the registry, unless they opt-out of the registry. Any individual born prior to January 1, 1998 can elect to opt-in to the registry.

CDC plans to issue COVID-19 vaccination cards so that individuals can verify their vaccination status

Ridgewood NJ, Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security is reporting that according to multiple reports, the US CDC plans to issue COVID-19 vaccination cards so that individuals can verify their vaccination status, much like cards used for other vaccinations, such as the ICVP “yellow card” for yellow fever. Additionally, the CDC is reportedly designing templates for buttons and stickers that health departments and providers can provide to vaccinated individuals, similar to the “I Voted” stickers handed out to many voters on election day. These templates will be included in the CDC’s SARS-CoV-2 vaccination toolkit to “educate and promote vaccination.”
