Hackensack NJ, Yesterday, U.S. Surgeon General Jerome M. Adams warned the country that we will face our “Pearl Harbor moment” this week. As the official U.S. death toll approaches 10,000, Adams suggested we brace for “the hardest and saddest week of most Americans’ lives.” Dr. Anthony Fauci echoed these thoughts in Sunday’s White House briefing, saying “This is probably going to be a very bad week.” Here in Bergen County, we must all understand that in order to flatten the curve and mitigate the impact of COVID-19 in our communities, everyone needs to do their part.

UPDATE : Four Alarm Fire in Ridgewood’s Central Business District

Ridgewood NJ, A multiple alarm fire destroyed a 3-story mixed use (commercial/residential) structure located at Bagelicious 19-23 North Broad Street, Ridgewood on Sunday night, 04/05. Numerous fire departments from Bergen and Passaic Counties assisted Ridgewood Fire Department in extinguishing the conflagration. At least one (1) residential occupant of the building was rescued by firefighters and transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood EMS, Ridgewood Emergency Services, and Ridgewood OEM were all represented by personnel at the scene.

Governor Murphy and Superintendent Callahan Authorize Municipalities and Counties to Restrict Short-Term Rentals

Ridgewood NJ, Governor Phil Murphy and Superintendent of the State Police Colonel Patrick Callahan announced an Administrative Order allowing municipalities and counties to impose additional restrictions on short-term rentals in response to COVID-19. Governor Murphy previously signed Executive Order No. 108, permitting municipalities and counties to restrict online marketplaces for arranging and offering lodging. This Administrative Order gives municipalities and counties the ability to impose additional restrictions on the ability of hotels, motels, guest houses, or private residences, or parts thereof, to accept new transient guests or seasonal tenants after 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 5.

Traffic Signal Taken Out at Teaneck Intersection Crash

Teaneck NJ, a traffic signal device was destroyed when two (2) SUVs collided at the intersection of Sussex Road and West Englewood Avenue, Teaneck on Sunday afternoon, 04/05. Both vehicles were propelled off of the roadway as a result of the crash’s impact, and wound up on the front lawn of a nearby single family home. No injuries were reported by either vehicles’ occupants. Teaneck Police and Teaneck Fire Department responded to the incident. A flatbed tow truck removed both wrecks. A portion of West Englewood Avenue was closed briefly due to the downed signal device.

Car Takes Out Fencing at Ridgewood School Ball Field

Ridgewood NJ, fortunately no injuries were reported after a Ford SUV crashed front first through a chain link fence and rolled down an embankment before coming to a stop on a school baseball field in Ridgewood early Sunday afternoon, 04/05. Damage to the vehicle was light; the fence was destroyed. Fortunately, the mishap occurred several hundred feet away from a small group of children who were playing on the school grounds. Ridgewood Police Patrol Officer Colin Donnelly assisted the SUV’s adult female driver in getting her vehicle off the field and back into a nearby parking lot.

British American Tobacco Announces Potential vaccine for COVID-19 using new, fast-growing tobacco plant technology

Ridgewood NJ, BAT’s US bio-tech subsidiary, Kentucky BioProcessing (KBP), is developing a potential vaccine for COVID-19 and is now in pre-clinical testing. If testing goes well, BAT is hopeful that, with the right partners and support from government agencies, between 1 and 3 million doses of the vaccine could be manufactured per week, beginning in June.

While KBP remains a commercial operation, the intention is that its work around the COVID-19 vaccine project will be carried out on a not for profit basis.

Hackensack Meridian Health Recruiting Recovering COVID-19 Patients

Hackensack NJ, As of late last night, HMH has been approved by the FDA to recruit recovered and recovering COVID-19 patients to assess their blood and test it for antibodies in response to the virus. These antibodies may help other patients who are infected with COVID-19. Patients with promising antibodies will be asked to come back to donate an additional blood sample which may be helpful for sick COVID-19 patients. This convalescent plasma therapy is still pending approval from the FDA which we hope to receive soon.
