Ridgewood NJ, the Pedestrian Plaza, where streets are closed to vehicular traffic from Walnut Street to Broad Street, along East Ridgewood Avenue, will be held on Saturdays and Sundays from June 3 – October 9, 2023. There will be music and entertainment in Memorial Park at Van Neste Square on Saturday night and Sunday. Each month will be culturally themed, and there will be special activities for children. Please plan to come and shop, dine, and enjoy the entertainment this summer.
Ridgewood NJ, an unoccupied painter’s van burst into flames while parked in the rear of an occupied commercial building located in the 200 block of East Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood early Monday afternoon, 04/24. Several nearby businesses were evacuated by Ridgewood Police officers as a precaution. No injuries were reported in the blaze, which was quickly extinguished by Ridgewood firefighters. The van was totaled. An investigation is underway to determine what caused the fire.
Ridgewood NJ, one (1) minor injury was reported following a two (2) vehicle, T-Bone collision at the intersection of East Ridgewood Avenue and North Pleasant Avenue, Ridgewood at approximately 0745 hours on Tuesday, 02/07. The injured party refused ambulance transportation to a local hospital. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Ridgewood Police and Ridgewood Fire Department units responded to the incident.
Paramus NJ, An unknown number of children sustained minor injuries when a Paramus Board of Education owned & operated school bus collided with a Mercedes SUV at the intersection of East Ridgewood Avenue and Highland Avenue, Paramus, at approximately 0840 hours on Monday, 02/06. The bus was en route to the Parkway Elementary School on East Ridgewood Avenue, Paramus, at the time of the crash. Paramus Police and Paramus EMS units responded immediately to 911 telephone calls reporting the incident. As a safety precaution, no students were removed from the school bus at the scene (busy intersection). The bus instead continued to the school (less than 1/2 mile away), where injured students were taken to the nurse’s office for evaluation. An ambulance and EMS Supervisor’s vehicle, along with numerous police vehicles, were observed parked in front of the school following the bus’ arrival there. Police at the crash scene did not indicate if any summonses were issued to either driver.
UPDATE: Paramus Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg has reported that the Mercedes driver was issued three (3) summonses: Careless Driving, Reckless Driving, and Failure to stop for a red light. The Mercedes sustained moderate front end damage; a safety device was ripped from the school bus’ front bumper and recovered from the Mercedes’ front right fender by Paramus PD Emergency Services Unit officers.
Paramus NJ, two (2) non life threatening injuries were reported following a early Saturday afternoon, 01/14, collision between a dump truck and an SUV at the intersection of East Ridgewood Avenue and Forest Avenue in Paramus. Following impact, the dump truck careened off the roadway onto the front lawn of a nearby single family home. Separate ambulances transported the victims to a local hospital. Both vehicles were towed from the scene by a pair of flatbed tow trucks. Paramus Police Department, Paramus Fire Department, and Paramus EMS personnel and equipment responded to the incident.
Paramus NJ, no injuries were reported following the Friday afternoon, 11/18, crash of a NJ Transit bus into a utility pole on East Ridgewood Avenue in Paramus, adjacent to the New Jersey Veterans Home and New Bridge Medical Center campuses. The driver was the only occupant on the bus at the time of the crash. No disruptions to utility services were reported in connection with the mishap. Paramus Police and Paramus Fire Department units responded to the incident.
Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood street revitalization project is well on the way. The Village of Ridgewood is replacing trees in the wells along East Ridgewood Avenue to Wilsey Square with new trees chosen to thrive in the Central Business District .
Ridgewood NJ, Grab and Go parking spaces, which provide for 15 minutes of free parking in the Central Business District, are off of East Ridgewood Avenue, on Oak Street, Chestnut Street, South Broad Street, and Prospect Street. These spaces, which are sponsored by local establishments and various residents, are helpful for a quick errand or for picking up a food order at a restaurant. After the 15 minutes have expired, the driver must move their car or a summons may be issued. The Grab and Go parking spaces will be removed as of September 30, 2022, with new parking guidelines beginning in October. More information on the new parking guidelines will be explained in a future E-Notice.
Ridgewood NJ, one (1) summons was issued by Ridgewood Police in connection with a Saturday morning, 07/16, crash that damaged three (3) vehicles, when a moving passenger car struck two (2) parked vehicles in the 300 block of East Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood. Two (2) of the damaged vehicles were towed away by a flatbed. No injuries were reported. Distracted driving was said to have been responsible for the mishap.
Ridgewood NJ, no injuries were reported when several bricks from a building facade fell to the ground on busy East Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood shortly after 4PM on Sunday, 03/06. Ridgewood firefighters rushed to the scene and quickly removed any remaining bricks that were loose, and cleared roof located debris that then allowed several feet of standing water to drain. A temporary sidewalk “walk-around” was established by Ridgewood Emergency Services personnel, who also assisted Ridgewood Police with motor vehicle traffic control during the incident. Anthony Merlino, Director of the Village’s Building Department, was also on the scene to assess the building’s structural integrity.
Ridgewood NJ, The Central Business District will has several 15-minute complimentary parking spaces on Oak Street, Chestnut Street, North Broad Street, off of East Ridgewood Avenue, and Wilsey Square on the west side. These parking spaces are limited to 15 minutes only, are free of charge to everyone, and are to be used to do a quick errand or pick up food or visit a business.Please be advised that if you are parked in these spaces longer than 15 minutes, you may receive a parking summons. These spaces have been generously sponsored by several local businesses, which are acknowledged on the 15-minute parking signs. We encourage you to stay longer in the Central Business District by parking in one of our many lots or the Hudson Street parking garage (at $1/hour), and there is also on-street parking available (at $1.25/hour).
Paramus NJ, A minor arm injury was the only injury reported following a two (2) vehicle, Wednesday afternoon, 09/09, motor vehicle crash with rollover in front of an East Ridgewood Avenue, Paramus home. Paramus Police, Paramus EMS, and Paramus Fire Department responded to the incident. A black Jaguar SUV rolled over on its roof and landed on the front lawn of a single family home after it collided with a red Toyota sedan. Both vehicles involved in the crash were towed from the scene by flatbed tow trucks.
Paramus NJ, One (1) adult male driver was transported by ambulance to The Valley Hospital following a two (2) vehicle collision in front of the New Bridge Medical Center, 230 East Ridgewood Avenue, Paramus, on Wednesday morning, 05/23. Paramus Police, EMS, Fire department Companies 1 & 2, and Paramus Rescue Squad personnel responded. The “Jaws of Life” were required to free the victim from his 4-door sedan. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. The victim’s injuries were reported to be non life threatening in nature.
Ridgewood NJ, A major leak in a high pressure gas main forced the entire closure of a portion of East Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood on Tuesday evening, 11/07. Ridgewood Fire Department , Police, and Emergency Services personnel responded to the incident. East Ridgewood Avenue was closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic between Brookside Avenue and North/South Irving Street, and was expected to remain closed for an extended period until PSE&G crews finished repairs. At this time it is not know whether nearby work on the installation of a new water main is connected in any way with the gas main leak.The gas was venting in the open air and there were no residents evacuated .
Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Police issued three (3) summonses in connection with a Wednesday morning, 08/02 multiple vehicle crash at the intersection of East Ridgewood Avenue and North Irving Street. Two (2) damaged vehicles were removed from the crash site by a flatbed tow truck. No injuries were reported. Ridgewood Fire Departement personnel attended to a crash related fluid spill.
