THE RECORD

A former Glen Rock police officer — whose duties included working with juveniles and handling evidence — admitted Thursday that he sent sexually explicit text messages to two teenage girls and that he pawned guns that were surrendered to the department.

Eric Reamy, 51, of Fair Lawn accepted a pre-indictment plea deal before Judge Susan J. Steele in Superior Court in Hackensack that will likely send him to prison for three to five years.

His sentencing is scheduled for June 24.

Reamy stood with his hands – one bearing a gold wedding band – folded at his waist while admitting that he sent suggestive text messages and naked pictures to two girls, ages 14 and 17. Both youths were involved in complaints that he, as the juvenile officer for Glen Rock police, was investigating.

GLEN ROCK — The borough’s police chief will leave his post early next month, an official confirmed Wednesday, clearing the way for new leadership in a department that has weathered a tumultuous year, including the suspension of two officers and the arrest of a third.

The borough learned of Chief Fred Stahman’s retirement on Wednesday, Borough Administrator Lenora Benjamin said. It is effective March 1, but because Stahman is using his accumulated time off, his last day on the job will be Jan. 6, Benjamin said.

“We had communications with the chief,” Benjamin said.

Stahman was appointed to the department’s top post in 2009, and his salary is $159,934, she said.

Stahman did not return a message seeking comment.

The department’s leaders drew criticism following the suspension of two officers and the arrest of a senior detective on charges that he sent sexually explicit text messages to underage girls whom he was supervising in his role as the department’s juvenile officer. The controversies eventually turned into a campaign issue this November.

GLEN ROCK — A long-awaited report by a former judge that called the state of the borough Police Department “good to excellent” — despite several recent high-profile suspensions — came under fire from residents on Wednesday night, even though elements of the probe were referred to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

Commissioned by the Borough Council in May, the report was done by retired state Superior Court Judge Alexander H. Carver III and was intended to “take the pulse” of the department.

Also, Carver was to provide an explanation of how disciplinary charges came to be brought against Sgt. Christopher McInerney and Bryan Scott for the deletion of photographs from a 2005 retirement party.
