Hackensack NJ, Flu season is ramping up, and your child begins to develop a runny nose or fever. A year ago that might not have caused too much concern – but now that first symptom may trigger fear that he or she has COVID-19.
“Children are at risk for a wide variety of respiratory illnesses, especially during the winter due to dry air and the fact that we are more often indoors,” says David Walker, M.D., chief of pediatric emergency medicine at Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center. “It is important for parents to have basic information about the flu and COVID-19 and to know when it’s necessary to get help.”

Ridgewood NJ, the debate has begun to rage over the accuracy of the COVID 19 numbers, both for deaths and number of cases . many claim there is an inconsistency with data collection with some states count presumed coronavirus deaths along with confirmed cases under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance issued last month and other states don’t count those deaths.

Hackensack NJ, reader recounts recent non COVID-19 hospital visit :
“Ok. So a few observations on my visit to the hospital yesterday. First of all, my care was excellent. The folks in the ER really took good care of me. Lots of pain, lots of pain medication. On entry I was triaged outside the ER with people sitting there with their computers. Once the knew I wasn’t there for Covid I was brought into what was the pediatric area of the hospital that is now the non Covid area for adults. As it was full (six beds only) I was stuck for a while in the hallway, loud but ok. Like I said great treatment.”

Trenton NJ, Senator Joe Pennacchio, while applauding the Governor for opening up parks, is calling on the Murphy Administration to begin reinstating “elective” surgeries in the state.
“We are finally allowing people to get out and walk in our parks and reap the physical and emotional health benefits of exercise. Now it’s time to prioritize the general health of the population and the fiscal stability of our essential hospitals,” said Senator Pennacchio (R-26). “With the emphasis on the virus, at-risk patients have not had access to important and necessary procedures. It’s time to allow people who are not infected to get the care they need from hospitals, health centers, doctors, dentists and eye doctors.”

Hackensack NJ, Every year, when Spring rolls around and exposure to pollen increases, so do allergies. But this year, we are not only experiencing seasonal allergies, but a new viral respiratory illness in COVID-19. Since COVID-19 is something we haven’t experienced before, it is easy to feel concerned with every symptom that creeps up. I have a headache, could this be coronavirus? I’m more tired than usual, could this be coronavirus? You get it, the list goes on.

One of the most pressing shortages facing hospitals during the Covid-19 emergency is a lack of ventilators. These machines can keep patients breathing when they no longer can on their own, and they can cost around $30,000 each. Now, a rapidly assembled volunteer team of engineers, physicians, computer scientists, and others, centered at MIT, is working to implement a safe, inexpensive alternative for emergency use, which could be built quickly around the world.
