NEW MILFORD, NJ – New Jersey once again is grabbing headlines as the worst state to do business in. The Tax Foundation, a non-partisan Washington-based think tank, released their 2018 State Business Tax Climate Index earlier this week, ranking New Jersey 50th overall in tax policy.
“While attempting to start a business and raise a family, all while being a constituent of Bob Gordon’s for the last fourteen years, I have personally experienced the unintended consequences of our Senator’s voting record that has led us here.” said Kelly Langschultz regarding the Tax Foundation’s findings.
“Voters in Bergen and Passaic have seen enough of Bob Gordon’s policies, which is why I’m campaigning aggressively to replace Gordon in three weeks and put our state back on the right track.”
The Tax Foundation rated New Jersey dead last in overall business climate, 42nd in Corporate Tax competitiveness, 48th in Individual Taxes, 46th in Sales Taxes and ranked New Jersey’s Property Taxes the highest in the nation.
“Whenever any legislation is on the Senate floor and Bob Gordon gets the opportunity to stand up for his constituents, the Senator fails every time. Every effort to seriously reform our state’s tax code and put New Jersey on the path to affordability and economic sustainability, Bob Gordon balks at every attempt to save those struggling in the 38th District. The sad truth, Bob Gordon has yet to meet a tax increase he didn’t like.”
While serving as councilwoman in New Milford, Kelly Langschultz presented a fiscal stability plan earlier this year that will continue to contribute towards the borough’s taxes remaining flat and will give New Milford a path towards responsibly paying down its debt while protecting taxpayers.
“The stability plan and financial know-how I’ve been providing to New Milford residents is exactly what Trenton needs, and I plan on providing the same kind of relief to the residents of New Jersey when I’m sworn in this January.”
Kelly Langschultz is a mother of four, small business owner, councilwoman in New Milford and a candidate for State Senate in New Jersey’s 38th Legislative District. Learn more about Kelly on her website, KellyLangschultz.com or on Facebook at facebook.com/kelly4njsenate.
District 38 – (Bergen and Passaic) Bergenfield, Fair Lawn, Glen Rock, Hasbrouck Heights, Hawthorne, Lodi, Maywood, New Milford, Oradell, Paramus, River Edge, Rochelle Park, Saddle Brook
Saddle Brook NJ, its election year and the Ridgewod blog is once again looking at some of the more interesting stories of this election year . We found one in near by District 38 with a gentlemen named Christopher Wolf. Chris’s home town is Fairlawn ,he is the Pastor at First Reformed Church of Saddle Brook, and he is running State Assemblyman in District 38.For Glen Rock readers that’s you .
Chris is an author of With You Every Step of the Way (2011) and Giving Faith a Second Chance: Restarts, Mulligans and Do-Overs (2007) and he is the host of radio show ,Walk With Me, Wednesday nights, 7pm Est/6pm Cntrl on WYFN 94.9 FM – NY; yfnradio.com .
Chris has been a pastor for 15 years, 7 here in Saddle Brook. The congregation averages about 70 people on Sundays. Chris said , “As the NJ Legislature is part-time, my main priority is my congregation. There are set days for business in Trenton, Mondays and/or Thursdays so I will adjust my congregation hours around that but will remain at the same they are now. My main issues are making NJ more affordable, helping small businesses , creating a Main Street economy, Social Services reform, and bring the community partnership concept to the other towns in the District.”
Chris got the political bug while working at the state assembly many years ago and now feels that in order to practice what you preach in church you need to go out and engage the community .
We asked Chris has his Christian faith ever been an issue on the campaign trail and he said surprisingly ,”No” .
Christopher Wolf is running for assembly, with Kelly Langschultz for Senate, and Billy Leonard for assembly against long time Senator Bob Gordon, assemblymen Tim Eustace and Joe Lagana.
Chris has been spreading the message of affordability, leadership, and community , in in towns like Bergenfield, Fair Lawn, Glen Rock, Hasbrouck Heights, Hawthorne, Lodi, Maywood, New Milford, Oradell, Paramus, River Edge, Rochelle Park, and Saddle Brook . He love events , but he says ,”going door to door in the D38 towns is the best. I love the purity of it , just meeting and talking neighbor to neighbor. And it’s working. People are responding well to our team. Part of the purpose of New Jersey’s Second Chance is to inspire people to believe in leaders and in government again.”
That’s right Chris calls his platform New Jersey’s Second Chance , and says ” it’s because I believe in redemption for New Jersey (Trenton) and it’s a play on the title of my first book, Giving Faith a Second Chance “.
Chris described his life to us as , “Improbable. So many of my stories could be described as improbable. Where I am now, after growing up in a garden apartment in Fair Lawn. You know, I was the kid who played baseball in sneakers because there were times when we couldn’t afford cleats. Becoming a minister and much more. Now I’m on the brink of the most improbable chapter yet – two months from being elected to represent you in the New Jersey General Assembly. You know me, I’ll bring principled, passionate, honorable, game-changing leadership to District 38 towns and to Trenton. It’s a critical time for the campaign”
Chris summed it all up for us , “I want people to look back on November 2017, and know that they were a part of New Jersey’s Second Chance – the season in which we began to redeem our state from financial and social ruin – and started over with affordability, thriving small businesses, and connected communities.”

Ridgewood, NJ, Long-time friends and business partners Frank and Valerie O’Brien and Keith Hartig are pleased to announce the launch of their new professional painting business, Fresh Coat of Ridgewood.
Fresh Coat offers residential and commercial painting services including interior and exterior painting, wood staining and finishing, and other services for nearly every protective coating application. Their professional painters use quality, environmentally safe materials and the company offers a 24/7 receptionist, online scheduling and detailed quotes. Fresh Coat of Ridgewood serves Franklin Lakes, Mahwah, Paramus, Ramsey, Ridgewood, Waldwick, Wyckoff and the surrounding communities.
“We know from our own experience that it can be a real challenge to find a good painter you can trust. At Fresh Coat, every customer is a priority, and we treat you that way. We aren’t just coming in to put paint on walls – we want to make sure it’s done right, done professionally and done on time,” Keith said.
The idea to start a business started when Frank O’Brien, who has been a police officer for almost 9 years, decided he wanted to start planning his next steps. Frank and Valerie have friends in Texas who own the Fresh Coat franchise in Denton, so they started asking questions.
“It all spiraled from there and we asked Keith, who we’ve been friends with for a long time, if he wanted to come on board. Valerie has an office management background and Keith is experienced in customer service and sales, so it’s really a perfect fit for us to be working together,” Frank said.
For the owners, opening Fresh Coat is all about bringing a new, high quality painting business to their community and giving people a new, better option, whether they’re looking to have one wall painted or a whole house painted.
“Valerie and I – and Keith and his wife – bought houses in Bergen County and we’ve realized how subpar the painting industry was in our area. It was nearly impossible for us to get a call back from a quality painter, let alone a decent quote. At Fresh Coat, we offer a different level of customer service and professionalism. We want to change the industry,” Frank said.
As part of their commitment to customer service, Fresh Coat offers a 3-3-3 customer service pledge, so calls will be answered by a live person within three rings, a quote will be delivered within three days (customer schedule permitting) and the job will be started within three weeks.
Fresh Coat was founded in 2004 as part of Strategic Franchising Systems. Since 2015, Fresh Coat has been included in the Bond’s Top 100 and named to Entrepreneur Magazine’s Franchise 500 list. Fresh Coat is also part of the International Franchise Association, the Small Business Association’s Franchise Registry, VetFran and Minority Fran. All Fresh Coat employees are trained, dependable, fully insured and background-checked and Fresh Coat of Ridgewood is bonded and insured.

The Valley Health System of Ridgewood has expanded its Paramus footprint with a 10-year lease for 73,978 square feet at the Mack-Cali Centre III in Paramus.
The Mack-Cali property has two towers joined by a seven-story atrium with an on-site café with outdoor seating.
Valley spokeswoman Megan Fraser told NJBIZ “The site is close to the hospital’s Paramus campus, which includes a cancer center and same day surgery center.”
She said it’s also near a 15-acre property that Valley acquired last year.
“As more and more physicians choose to become a part of the system’s Valley Medical Group, we need to offer easy-to-access, beautiful office space for our doctor and their patients,” Frazer said. “In addition, to continue to positively impact the health of the population we serve, we envision developing new clinical and preventive medicine and wellness programs at that site in years to come.”

THE RECORD
Irwin Lipkin, the 76-year-old Paramus man who was the first non-family employee to get hired by swindler Bernard Madoff’s firm, has had his sentencing for his role in Madoff’s Ponzi scheme delayed again, for health reasons.
A judge moved the sentencing from April 10 to May 13 at the request of Lipkin’s attorney, who said doctors have “uncovered potential issues of dementia” and “cardiac related issues,” court records show.
Attorney Richard Galler, of Hackensack, who said his client also has a kidney condition, sought a 30-day delay in sentencing while doctors prepare reports on his ailments.
“It was adjourned a month because part of the plea bargain says that he is allowed to have a reduction because of his health condition,” said Galler, adding that the deal allows Lipkin to face a maximum of 10 years in prison. His sentencing has been delayed a number of times.
Lipkin, who joined Madoff and his wife at the firm, Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities, in 1964, retired as controller in 1998. He pleaded guilty in November 2012 to conspiracy to commit securities fraud, falsifying records and making false filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Despite his plea, he contended that he was unaware of the Ponzi scheme when he worked at the company.
Lipkin, who has a residence in Delray Beach, Fla., as well as his Paramus home, pleaded guilty from a wheelchair. “He is not well,” said Galler. “He spends most of his time in his house.”

Police, hospital staff rehearse for armed crisis in Paramus
OCTOBER 19, 2014, 7:04 PM LAST UPDATED: SUNDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2014, 7:10 PM BY STEFANIE DAZIO STAFF WRITER | THE RECORD
Begin scenario: A gunman takes a woman hostage at a local hospital and shoots aimlessly toward patients and their nurses on the third floor.
A security officer yells down the hallway, “Run and hide, we have a man with a gun.” Those who aren’t bedridden — or haven’t already been shot — scatter. Others lock their doors or draw the curtains around their beds. They hold their breath as the gunman comes closer.
A team of police officers advances, clearing corners and rooms until they find the gunman and his hostage. They train their weapons on him.
End scenario.
There wasn’t really an active shooter at The Valley Hospital’s Robert and Audrey Luckow Pavilion in Paramus on Sunday afternoon. But hospital staff, volunteers and local and county law enforcement agencies practiced this drill and several others as if there had been.
“One of these drills came to fruition,” Paramus Mayor Richard LaBarbiera said. “Preparedness, you can’t say enough about it.”
Nearly a year ago, police responded to the county’s first ongoing shooting incident, which happened at the Garden State Plaza in Paramus. The gunman fired randomly and later killed himself in the mall.
