Hoboken NJ, in a display of what is right with our system, a high turnout of Hoboken voters overwhelmingly rejected a tax and spend boondoggle in the dead of winter. A broad coalition realized that spending $250 million on a new high school was simply not in the interest of education or fiscal health for the City. A leading member of the successful group was the renewed Hoboken Republican Party led by Chairman Joseph Branco and augmented by Young Republican Chair Pavel Sokolov.

Same Old, Same Old Democrat Attacks on Jack Ciattarelli

Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Jack Ciattarelli3

Joshua Sotomayor-Einstein

The most recent attack by the NJ Democrat Committee on New Jersey’s next Governor, Jack Ciattarelli, reads like the same-old chicken-little sky-is-falling caricature of every GOP opponent they have ever faced.  Jack is anti-science they say because he believes in the philosophical exemption from vaccines that exists in some shape or form in every state (at least until Covid-19). Jack is anti-gay they scream because he is against the out of touch sex “education” Democrats have pushed into every public school which mandates teaching middle school children about anal sex and the controversial notion that they can change their biology.

Ridgewood NJ,a new report released yesterday from the United Kingdom is the most comprehensive look yet at students returning to class.  The reported concluded :

“In conclusion, re-opening of schools was associated with very few outbreaks after easing of national lockdown in England. SARS-CoV-2 infection and outbreaks were more likely to
involve staff members, highlighting a need to improve education and infection control measures for this group. The strong correlation between COVID-19 outbreaks and regional
SARS-CoV-2 incidence highlights the importance of controlling the disease in the community to protect the staff and students in educational settings.”

Ridgewood NJ, For children K-8, we are offering a robust program to support families as we navigate the new schedule being implemented by local schools. Our staff are here to help students on-site during their remote learning sessions to ensure they are connected with their teachers and to help with their classwork and schoolwork. Enrichment and wellness programming rounds out their day when they are not online with their class. Additionally, we are offering before and after care from 7:00am until the start of school and from the end of the school day until 6:30pm. Parents can learn more on our website by clicking here. I also encourage them to contact Deyanara Gonzalez dgonzalez@ridgewoodymca.org who can answer any questions they may have.

Ridgewood NJ, The Dumbest Generation is a dire report on the intellectual life of young adults and a timely warning of its impact on American democracy and culture. While this came out in 2009 it could not be more current . The recent unrest continues to point to a failure of public education .

For decades, concern has been brewing about the dumbed-down popular culture available to young people and the impact it has on their futures. But at the dawn of the digital age, many thought they saw an answer: the internet, email, blogs, and interactive and hyper-realistic video games promised to yield a generation of sharper, more aware, and intellectually sophisticated children. The terms “information superhighway” and “knowledge economy” entered the lexicon, and we assumed that teens would use their knowledge and understanding of technology to set themselves apart as the vanguards of this new digital era.

NYS and Gates Foundation Will Convene Experts to Answer Key Questions About What Education Should Look Like in the Future

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Albany NY, remote learning could replace the practice of a teacher standing in front of a classroom instructing students in the post-coronavirus area, Gov. Andrew Cuomo suggested Tuesday. Cuomo dropped the bombshell while announcing a partnership with the Gates Foundation to “reimagine” education in the post-COVID era.

“The last few months have been an incredibly stressful time full of change, but we have to learn and grow from this situation and make sure we build our systems back better than they were before,” Governor Cuomo said. “One of the areas we can really learn from is education because the old model of our education system where everyone sits in a classroom is not going to work in the new normal. When we do reopen our schools let’s reimagine them for the future, and to do that we are collaborating with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and exploring smart, innovative education alternatives using all the new technology we have at our disposal.”

Reader says, “Many of those who graduate can’t pass the entrance to a community college”

RHS Grad

” Do you think anyone might put a premium on learning the basics? Many of those who graduate can’t pass the entrance to a community college (go on and ask the administrators at BCC, go ahead) so then the have to take the remedial coursework which they or their parents have to pay AFTER all the property taxes they paid for the town’s education which the student didn’t get. And those credits don’t apply to the degree. But no worries they’ll tell you they need and you must give them MORE money thrown at this problem which won’t do anything. Then, of course, there are all those teachers ‘aide’ individuals who add MORE cost to the bottom line..”

Ridgewood NJ, Results from the semi-annual National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) were released this morning.  The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), first administered in 1969, is the largest continuing and nationally representative assessment of what our nation’s students know and can do in subjects such as mathematics, reading, science, and writing.  The results of NAEP are released as The Nation’s Report Card, and are available for the nation, states, and in some cases, urban districts.  Teachers, principals, parents, policymakers, and researchers all use NAEP results to assess progress and develop ways to improve education in the United States.

Reader asks , ” Why hasn’t Ridgewood done enough to keep up and stay competitive?”

gay flag

“The Ivy’s received almost 70,000 more applicants in 2017 than in 2012, and overall acceptance rates dropped to 9.3% from 12.6%.”
.
EXACTLY.
.
Why hasn’t Ridgewood done enough to keep up and stay competitive?
Answer: Because the school values all of the BS (sleep in days, pet therapist for exams, student walkouts against perceieved – but not real – trangressions, etc. etc. etc.) rather than innovative programs and solutions to make the students successful and competitive in an ever more competitive and changing world.
.
The attitude that life (in this case getting into college) is getting harder so it is OK that we do not do as well is EXACTLY why we are failing the students and falling behind.
.
Making excuses for failure is so much easier than finding solutions for success.
