Ridgewood NJ, readers noticed some unusual activity at the Board of Ed building on Cottage place this weekend . According to the Ridgewood Professional Firefighters FMBA Local 47 Facebook page , the Ridgewood Fire Department conducted a drill on Saturday 3/26/2022 . “B” Shift conducted ladder operations training using the Ridgewood Board of Education headquarters .
Ridgewood Nj, electric power outages in sections of the Village’s west side may have been related to a downed tree in the 300 block of Godwin Avenue that took out two (2) utility poles when it fell early Saturday afternoon, 03/12. No motor vehicles were hit when the tree fell, nor were any personal injuries reported. Godwin Avenue was closed in both directions from Melrose Place to West End/South Murray Avenues as of 1300 hours. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, and Ridgewood Emergency Services personnel and vehicles responded to the incident.
Ridgewood NJ, at Wednesday nights Village Council meeting , Chief John Judge, Captain Justin O’Connor, and Lieutenant Brian Peacock were officially sworn into their new positions for the Ridgewood Fire Department .
Ridgewood NJ, an adult female babysitter and her young charge were injured when the sitter’s leg fell through a floorboard at a single family home in the 400 block of Prospect Street, Ridgewood early Friday afternoon, 02/18. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, and Ridgewood EMS personnel and vehicles rushed to aid the two (2) victims. Arriving fire department personnel observed evidence of an active construction site with no permits visible. A Village of Ridgewood building inspector was summoned as a result of the Fire Department’s observation.
Ridgewood NJ, one (1) individual was transported by ambulance to The Valley Hospital following a three (3) vehicle collision at the intersection of Dayton Street and South Maple Avenue, Ridgewood on Tuesday morning, 02/15. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, and Ridgewood EMS personnel and vehicles responded to the incident. All three (3) vehicles were towed from the scene.
Ridgewood NJ, a containment vessel hose line of a single axle tanker truck carrying cooking oil ruptured on Chestnut Street, Ridgewood early Saturday evening, 02/12, while the truck was parked and its driver was servicing a nearby restaurant. An unconfirmed report was that 200-300 gallons of oil may have leaked, with an unknown quantity having spilled into a Chestnut Street located storm drain. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department , Ridgewood Emergency Services, and Bergen County HazMat personnel and vehicles responded to the incident. Clean-up, by a commercial contractor hired by the tanker’s owner, was expected to take several hours. The driver indicated to police that he was in the basement of the restaurant he was servicing at the time the hose line ruptured, and was made aware of the spill by a pedestrian who noticed the oil slick. Despite slick sidewalk and street surfaces, no injuries due to slips & falls were reported in the incident.
Ridgewood NJ, a Thursday afternoon, 02/03 collision in the 500 block of Northern Parkway, Ridgewood propelled a Toyota Scion across the front lawn of a nearby home, and into the driveway of second home, where it crashed into a parked car and the second home’s foundation. The three (3) occupants of all vehicles involved (2 adults and 1 child) refused ambulance transportation to a local hospital. The Toyota Scion and parked Toyota Camry were towed from the scene. The third vehicle, a Chevrolet Equinox, was driven from the scene on its own power. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, and Ridgewood EMS personnel and vehicles responded to the incident. Fortunately no children playing in the neighborhood at time of the incident .
Ridgewood NJ, no injuries reported in a collision between a mini van and Tesla sedan at the intersection of South Maple Ave and Dayton St, Ridgewood at approximately 8:30 AM on Saturday, 01/22. Ridgewood firefighters attended to a crash related fluid spill from the mini van. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Ridgewood Police ‘s Patrol Division investigated the crash.
Ridgewood NJ, a Friday morning, 01/21, head-on, two (2) vehicle collision at the intersection of West Ridgewood Avenue and North Monroe Street, Ridgewood resulted in one (1) driver requiring ambulance transportation to The Valley Hospital, and one (1) crash related summons being issued by Ridgewood Police. Both heavily damaged vehicles were removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. Ridgewood Fire firefighters attended to a crash related fluid spill. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, Ridgewood EMS, and a paramedic team from The Valley Hospital responded to the incident.
On January 2, Ridgewood firefighters rescued a passenger from a minivan involved in a crash with a Honda Civic sedan, according to the Daily Voice. Both cars had severe damages and were towed from the crash site at North Walnut Street and Franklin Avenue. The female passenger was then transported to the Valley Hospital to receive treatment for the neck injuries she sustained during the crash.
Ridgewood NJ, one (1) summons was issued in connection with a two (2) vehicle crash at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and North Walnut Street, Ridgewood on Sunday evening, 01/02. Ridgewood firefighters used hydraulic tools to extricate an adult female passenger of a minivan involved in the collision. The victim was transported to The Valley Hospital by Ridgewood EMS. A crash related fluid spill was also attended to by Ridgewood Fire Department. Both vehicles involved in the crash appear to have been totaled and were removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. Ridgewood Police Patrol Division handled the crash investigation.

Ridgewood NJ, on Thursday December 23rd the Ridgewood Fire Department made the rounds with Santa . Santa visited all Ridgewood elementary schools. Ridgewood Professional Firefighters FMBA Local 47 thanked all those who came out for the Santa meet and greet . Santa even walked away with a note hopefully everyone got what they wished for!!!
Ridgewood NJ, on Wednesday night the Village Hall swore in 2 new fighters . Chad Miller, Kevin Monton, and Steven Scanapico became Ridgewood firefighters in front of enthusiastic friends and family. The large crowd spilled out into the hallway and gave a rousing applause for each firefighter .
Glen Rock NJ, first responders from multiple agencies rushed to aid an individual who was struck by a Hoboken bound NJ Transit train at the Glen Rock Main Line Station on Thursday morning, 12/09. The victim was extricated from underneath the train and transported by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson. NJ Transit Police is conducting an investigation of the incident. No crew members nor passengers were injured. Main Line rail service was suspended in both directions between Paterson and Ridgewood due to the pedestrian strike at Glen Rock Station on the Main Line. NJ Transit Police officers were on scene and assisting.
Ridgewood NJ, the Chamber of Commerce 2021 Downtown for the Holidays event was different this year due to an abundance of caution over COVID19 the tradition tree lighting countdown was dropped. Planning for the event began mid-summer when there was still a great deal of uncertainty over the virus. The Ridgewood Chamber assures us they looks forward to restoring the traditional elements of Downtown for the Holidays in 2022. If you couldn’t make it Scott Lief did a fantastic job hosting the Downtown for the Holidays TV broadcasting live on Facebook for the event .
