High Winds Toppled a Large Tree on Hillcrest Road in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, Very high winds toppled a large tree owned by the Village of Ridgewood located in the 600 block of Hillcrest Road, Ridgewood on Monday afternoon, 02/25. A single family home sustained structural and cosmetic damage when the tree crashed into the home’s front side. Ridgewood Police and Ridgewood Fire Department responded to the incident. No injuries were reported, but the Village’s Building Department deemed the structure uninhabitable until repairs are made. As of Monday evening, 02/25, the tree’s remains had not yet been removed from where it had fallen.

Bergen Parks Department Truck Crashes into Office Building in Ridgewood’s CBD

Ridgewood NJ, A dump truck emblazoned with a seal from the County of Bergen Parks Department crashed into a Ridgewood office building in the Central Business District on Wednesday afternoon, 01/30, damaging at least four (4) vehicles parked there. The driver fled the scene in the damaged truck, but was apprehended shortly thereafter by Ridgewood Police officers. Before being taken into custody for unspecified charges, the driver was evaluated for a minor hand injury by Ridgewood EMTs. Firefighters from Ridgewood Fire Department and officials from the Village of Ridgewood’s Building Department were observed evaluating the structure to determine the extent of damage. The building, located at 257 East Ridgewood Avenue, the former Sealfons department store building houses PNC bank, real estate, and medical offices. Personnel from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s and Bergen County Sheriff’s Offices were assisting Ridgewood Police in processing the scene(s) and interviewing the driver. No injuries were reported by any occupants of the office building, which was evacuated immediately after it was struck.

Ridgewood Police ,Fire and EMS Respond to Construction Fall

Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire department, and Ridgewood EMS rushed to aid an injured worker who had fallen two (2) stories inside of a new home being constructed in the 300 block of North Monroe Street, Ridgewood on Monday morning, 01/21. The victim landed in the home’s basement and was removed by a cadre of firefighters via a window well. He was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. A paramedic team from The Valley Hospital accompanied the patient in the ambulance.

As per Village Code 222-1, the use of power tools for commercial purposes is prohibited on holidays, and MLK Day is specified as one of those holidays.

Ridgewood Fire Department Responds To Hazardous Condition in Central Business District

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Fire department personnel were dispatched to assist in mitigating a hazardous condition caused by high winds at a construction site in the rear of 54 East Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood on Tuesday afternoon, 01/01. The fire department’s 95 foot tower ladder was deployed with two (2) firefighters on board who removed two (2) pieces of metal that had become dislodged from a roof area. One (1) of those pieces was hanging over an adjacent sidewalk. No injuries were reported in the incident. Ridgewood Police provided traffic control while firefighters worked.

No Injuries Reported in Collision at Franklin and North Walnut in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, No injuries were reported in a two (2) vehicle, Friday afternoon, 12/28, collision at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and North Walnut Street, Ridgewood in which the driver’s side door of a 4-door BMW was ripped off of its hinges. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood EMS, and RIdgewood Fire Department responded to the incident. Both vehicles involved were towed from the scene. No summonses were issued by Ridgewood Police.

Ridgewood , Hawthorne and Fair Lawn Fire Departments Assist Glen Rock Fire Department for Basement Fire in Glen Rock

Glen Rock NJ,A Thursday evening, 12/06, basement fire in a single family home located at 562 South Maple Avenue, Glen Rock, injured at least one (1) firefighter and required the services of several neighboring fire departments to extinguish. Glen Rock Fire Department was assisted by personnel from Ridgewood Fire Department  , Fair Lawn Fire Department , and Hawthorne Fire Department at the scene. Glen Rock Police and Glen Rock EMS also responded. The cause and exact origin of the blaze is currently under investigation.

Medevac Helicopter Transports Patients to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Emergency Services was requested to provide emergency assistance with a medevac landing on Veteran’s Field for a critical care transport to The Valley Hospital. With the assistance of the Ridgewood Fire Department and Ridgewood Police Department, RES cleared the field and provided support for the medevac operations. Ridgewood Ambulance 10 transport for the patient and critical care team to The Valley Hospital was provided by Ambulance 10.

Armored Car Jumps Curb and Takes Out Utility Pole in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, An armored vehicle loaded with currency clipped two (2) utility poles before jumping a curb and crashing into a tree on Saturday afternoon, 11/03, in Ridgewood. The incident occurred in the 300 block of South Maple Avenue, Ridgewood, near Prospect Street. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, and Ridgewood EMS rushed to aid the vehicle’s driver, who was transported by ambulance to The Valley Hospital with a non life threatening leg injury. Several armed security guards and uniformed police officers stood by as currency was transferred from the heavily damaged vehicle to another armored unit owned by the same company. A heavy duty wrecker removed the demolished vehicle from the scene. Traffic was detoured away from the crash site until the scene was cleared. Police at the scene did not comment as to whether any summonses were/would be issued in connection with the crash.

Ridgewood Fire Department use the “Jaws of Life” to Extricate the Driver from Friday Evening Crash

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Fire Department personnel used the “Jaws of Life” to extricate the driver of a dark colored SUV from her vehicle following a Friday evening, 11/02 crash at the intersection of South Monroe Street and West Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood. Ridgewood EMS transported two (2) victims of the crash to The Valley Hospital. All injuries were reported to be non life threatening in nature. Ridgewood PD also responded. At least one (1) vehicle was removed from the scene by a tow truck.

NJ Transit Bus and Vehicle Collide at the intersection of West Glen Avenue and North Monroe Street in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, A Subaru Forester collided with a NJ Transit bus at the intersection of West Glen Avenue and North Monroe Street, Ridgewood, early Friday morning, 10/12. It was NJ Transit route 163. Their were no passengers on the bus at the time. Both drivers sustained non life threatening injuries. One (1) driver was transported to The Valley Hospital for treatment, the other refused medical aid. The Subaru sustained heavy front end damage and was removed from the scene by a tow truck. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, and Ridgewood EMS responded to the incident. Ridgewood FD personnel attended to a significant crash related fluid spill.

Fire Prevention Week in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, on Wednesday 10/10/2018,  as part of Fire Prevention Week “A” Shift went around to all the Ridgewood schools with the HSA Presidents on board the Fire Trucks to conduct a Fire Drill. These are timed each year to see how fast everyone evacuates the building and a helmet trophy is awarded to the school with the most improved time which this year went to GW Middle School! This year as always was a lot of fun for all involved!
