“My public comment regards to the Library at the Village Council meeting last evening. Because Library didn’t do proper planning and needs analysis, it has no clear vision. It’s on a funding grab. I’m personally confused as to what it’s doing. It can update the place, but why gut renovate to essentially offer the same services as now? I hope the Village doesn’t get stuck funding unnecessary projects…”

Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood Library expansion is a hotly debated topic in the Village . The debate seems to rage over what is needed and what is realistic vs. inappropriate extravagances like massive circular stairways ,a huge performing arts center and other vanity projects .

“The library and High School are grabbing for the brass ring. They have big ideas and big money wish lists. Why does the library “need” this “Reimagine” project? Why does the high school “need” a 1,000 seat Performing Art Center? I know that the developers are selling the downtown as a city with all the amenities.

Library says it can make changes, but it hasn’t. They are stuck on the $7.7 million project, $2 million bonding.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Library had a different, more pragmatic renovation plan prior to 2018. That plan was deemed sufficient to address the future service needs of the Library. In the 2018 library trustee meeting minutes, the architect mentions that plan would cost $5 million. That plan matches the alternate plan mentioned at this year’s meeting at Village Council: $4 million for the library. $1 million was probably for squaring the auditorium, which the alternate plan doesn’t include.

Ridgewood NJ, Resident Steve Kim summed up the prime issue from most of us when it comes to the Ridgewood Library, what about the books?
Continue reading The “library should promote literacy foremost”Dear VC
Thank you for having a session on the Library.
Some key points…
* How could RPL ask for $3.7 million when the cap is $200/psf and the building is noted as 34k sf?
* Most don’t want the prominent stairs. Don’t take my word for it. Do your own research. You are signing off on the project after all.
* Teen center should be much bigger if that is a key reason for the reno.
* We should find a more flow effective way of ushering light into the place. The light fixture is better these days.
* Library is about reading and learning. Books are core to that process. It is about books, then other elements and aspects work around it.
* Auditorium expands to alleviate a few standing rooms only shows makes zero sense.
Thank you.

Ridgewood NJ, the Village of Ridgewood has finally hit rock bottom. The Ridgewood Public library will be hosting a talk by former disgraced NJ Governor Jim McGreevey. McGreevy who after a Ridgewood former Mayor claimed “is not gay” abruptly resigned in 2004 after declaring himself “a gay American” and admitting an extramarital affair with a male staffer.
McGreevey a serial con artist pursued a career in the Episcopal priesthood but was rejected. According to a source at the Episcopal Diocese of Newark, his rejection was not for “being gay but for being a jackass”.

Ridgewood NJ, Join author Amy Stewart as she returns to the Ridgewood Public Library to talk about her newest installment in the Kopp sisters saga, “Kopp Sisters on the March”!
This is the fifth book on the Kopp sisters, based on the real-life experiences of Bergen’s own Kopp sisters—who worked as private detectives in a time where women could not even vote!
Stewart became fascinated with the Kopp sisters after discovering a newspaper article about them. (Her books were based on research provided by GSBC’s Trustee Emeritus, Ree Hopper.) From the publisher:
