Reader suggests, “people in ridgewood who have too much time on their hands”

parking

“There are people in ridgewood who have too much time on their hands and spy and stalk others. Or spend countless hours reading every proposal from the schools, village, library, garage, hospital and debating their intention, values and cost and spreading negativity on social media. If they don’t trust any leadership then perhaps they should…”

FYI :A recent survey conducted for the Garden State Initiative and Fairleigh Dickinson University found:

44% of New Jersey residents are planning to leave the state in the not-so-distant future
One in four residents, or 28 percent, plan to depart the Garden State within five years

As to why they plan to leave, many cited high property taxes and overall cost of living as the main reasons.

Reader Questions ‘Mutual Aid”

ridgewood_fire_department_theridgewoodblog

“And as ALWAYS the Ridgewood FD is there fighting the fire because we have a paid FD that is always on duty and all the surrounding towns get by with volunteers (when any are available). Now I am not saying that we shouldn’t help our neighbors, but come on people. We pay dearly for the privlege of having a fully paid fire department, which is an awesome benefit to living in this town. Why can’t our neighbors do the same?”

Reader asks ,”does anyone else notice that even as Hudson is closed, CBD parking is still abundant?”

Slide1V21

“The garage will lose $1mm a year, the village CFO confirms that. Only monstrous increases in rates on the street and lots can close that. The VC has no choice but to raise the rates on the surface lots and meters… the question is the strategy to do so. If a surface lot and a street meter are close to the same price when the garage is built… what’s the incentive to park in the garage? People circle 1 block radius’ now, and studies prove if you don’t have a significant price difference between the two, they will just keep circling.. The lack of fiscal common sense in the VC with an eye to protecting taxpayers is frightening. Now add in the library-glamification which has $0 return to taxpayers. Behind all the taxpayer-funded goodies? The same people who led the push for the new hospital and high-density housing. Saraceno and the Library Cabal also led the housing push and the hospital push. They have no regard for the fiscal future of the village and her taxpayers. Oh, does anyone else notice that even as Hudson is closed, CBD parking is still abundant? Often on weekend nights, whole rows of the train lot are empty. Hmmm, funny…just what garage critics said was true now *proven* true…we have a CBD parking surplus.”

Reader calls it a “sad day for the state “

NJ+Drivers+License[1]

“It’s a sad day for this state when people who are born and raised in this country needs six points of identification and sometimes have to make two or three trips to DMV to get a drivers license or even renew their drivers license. Then you have illegal aliens who have no identification and can go and get a drivers license. There seems to be a bit of a problem with that. The leaders of the state should be recalled.”

Do as I Say and Not as I do in Ridgewood Central Business District?

Ridgewood NJ, Tony Damiano , has literally made a career out of complaining that there is not enough parking in town, regularly going to Council meetings and stomping his foot declaring that town is dying because shoppers cannot find parking.  And yet, this shop owner apparently feels that HE is entitled.  Here is his car on Broad Street taking up a prime spot that a shopper could use – on the day after Christmas, which is one of the heaviest shopping days of the year.  And his car is in a top-tier spot on Broad Street almost every single day.  Without fail.  We have numerous such pictures from all four seasons.  Let’s add to the outrageousness of this scenario that Damiano lives on Broad Street and could easily walk to his place of business.  You cannot make this stuff up.

Ridgewood NJ, from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, On Christmas Eve 1818, 200 years ago, Silent Night was sung for the first time! Here is the origin of how this wonderful song came to be…

In 1818, a roving band of actors was performing in towns throughout the Austrian Alps. On December 23 they arrived at Oberndorf, a village near Salzburg where they were to re-enact the story of Christ’s birth in the small Church of St. Nicholas.

Ridgewood NJ, since 2009 the Ridgewood blog has sponsored the annual Ridgewood Festivus . Looks for updates and schedule on the Ridgewood blog today .

Festivus was created as an alternative holiday in response to the commercialization of Christmas. Or perhaps it was created by cheap skates looking for a good excuse to duck present buying !

Festivus is traditionally celebrated on December 23rd.
