Ridgewood NJ, The New Jersey State Children’s Chorus (NJSCC) presents “Songs of the Earth” at 4 pm on Sunday, March 24 at Ridgewood United Methodist Church, 100 Dayton Ave., Ridgewood. Admission is $10/under 18 admitted free. Tickets are on sale at www.njstatechildrenschorus.org or may be purchased at the door. There is a snow date of March 31: notices will be posted online.
The concert opens with a round by Lowell Mason, dean of American choirs, aptly titled “O Music.” Pieces celebrating the winter weather in all its glory include “I’m Walking in the Air” from the feature cartoon, “The Snowman,” and Edward Elgar’s “The Snow.” The “Lion and the Unicorn” is a 200 year old setting of a children’s poem in which the animals represent winter and spring. The children explore far-off places with “Dodi li,” a lively Hebrew setting of words from the Song of Songs and “Sakura,” a Japanese folk song about cherry blossoms. Eric Whitacre’s enchanting “The Seal Lullaby” and “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’” from “Oklahoma!” round out the afternoon.
Insurance, especially in the hospitality industry, is a necessity today. No matter how small you think your restaurant is, it is exposed to a multitude of risks that could wipe you out of business in an instant. It is important to understand what risks your restaurant is exposed to in order to be able to protect yourself against losses.
Here are 5 important factors to put in mind when looking for an insurance cover for your restaurant;
i) Food poisoning
Your restaurant will always strive to ensure food safety through proper handling and by ensuring that you avoid spoilage and cross-contamination. An occasional slip by a not-so-vigilant employee could result in food poisoning for your patrons. Extended power outages could also result in food spoilage. This is why it is important to consider taking up an insurance cover for food contamination.
ii) Fire Safety
This is an absolute necessity if alcohol is on the menu in your restaurant. You never know when a drunk will start a fight and cause bodily harm or damage to the property. Such fights can result in lawsuits against your restaurant. It is, however, important to keep in mind that it is illegal to sell alcohol to minors and such claims won’t be taken up by your insurance. Be keen to also observe local laws regarding the sale of alcohol.
iii) Equipment Breakdown
Equipment will at times break down, whether from power surges, mechanical failure or irregular maintenance. Such breakdowns can be costly to the business without a proper insurance cover. Such a breakdown can result in loss of income and extra costs in replacing equipment. When looking for Restaurant Insurance, it is important to get a cover that protects you in the event of the breakdown of equipment.
iv) Theft and fraud by employees
Internal theft by employees is one of the biggest challenges players in the hospitality industry face today. You are bound to experience some form of theft or fraud by your employees. Sometimes the theft is minor that you can let it go with a warning, but at times it so big it results in the restaurant experiencing huge losses in income. Whether it is theft of cash, foodstuffs or the assets owned by the restaurant, you need to be adequately prepared for when it happens by getting the right cover.
v) Insurance cover for Liquor Liability
There are safety requirements, such as fire fighting equipment and training, that you will need to fulfil before getting a license to operate your restaurant. This is aimed at reducing the risk of fires occurring and the severity of them should they occur. In as much as you may feel this is enough, you may still need to get a cover for the property against fire. There is also the risk of fire from an arson attack.
Getting the right insurance policy for your restaurant is not an easy task and you shouldn’t hurry it. Shop around and if need be, take different insurance policies for different risks. It might seem expensive, but losing all your investment to a simple risk that could have been covered will be more painful.

” Of course you know exactly what Fishbein will say and do, announce it’s all due to “false news and schools in Ridgewood were obviously misrepresented in the survey.” That huge budget increase (look at Glen Rock’s whose scores are almost always well above us and the comparison in budget requests is a complete horror.) “
“wealthy parents spread the wealth amongst various service providers (tutors, essay Writers, etc.) to send their kids to school where they’ll spend another $300k on a bachelors degree. Sounds like they are the losers. A better question is, why is this investigation happening now? It’s not like coaching people to get into schools is a new thing. Wouldn’t the same investigators be better used to catch Fentanyl distributors? Just a month ago billionaires were caught paying for sex (what a crime!) and now this. Who’s directing these investigations?”

Ridgewood NJ, after years of acrimony the controversial wall in front of the “It’s Greek to Me” restaurant at 21 East Ridgewood Avenue was demolished on Friday morning.
While some felt “the wall” created a nice dinning area for the restaurant, critics saw favoritism and a side walk impediment for pedestrians and fire fighters.
Two (2) construction workers used a concrete cutting saw, sledgehammer, and other assorted tools to demolish and remove the barrier .
It is believed the “wall” was removed because it would have been non-compliant with the Village’s new sidewalk cafe/dining ordinance. The restaurant’s owner, Paul Vagianos, was on the scene to witness the process.

” I think we’re way beyond weed and all its uses, benefits, and pitfalls when it comes to the state of NJ. It’s about the bucks. Much like the buzz about gambling in AC being the magic bullet to solve New Jersey’s financial woes, weed is looked at as a new cash crop to fill our tax coffers with green. We have a 40+ year view on legalized gambling and see only bankrupt casinos, lives ruined, and power-broker pockets lined. The state lottery, online gambling, sin tax on tobacco, etc…all failures in helping people. Only more money for politicos to piss away. Only with weed, we have more stoners and fewer earners. Is it any wonder why our taxes are so high? Maybe we should legalize prostitution so we can tax sex workers while we’re at it. Murphy (or any GOP gov) and company should be focused on how to help people succeed rather than keep the citizens dumbed down and wasted. Decriminalize individual use of cannabis and penalize illegal distribution, much like alcohol laws. “
