Ridgewood NJ, Paul Vagianos is a candidate for election in November to fill the unexpired Village Council. term of Bernadette Walsh (who resigned due to a pending relocation out of state).  Mr. Vagianos is a past president of the Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Village’s Central Business District Advisory Committee (CBDAC).  He owns and operates the It’s Greek to Me restaurant on East Ridgewood Avenue and owns a commercial property on South Broad Street that houses the Pearl restaurant.

Apple Rumored to be in Talks With Toyota About Apple Car Production Starting 2024

Ridgewood NJ, Apple is rumored to be visiting several car manufacturers in Asia to mass-produce a branded car by 2024. The company will likely make its EV batteries in the US, but it might seek partnerships with established vehicle makers to do so. Apple is developing a new battery design to reduce the cost of batteries and increase the vehicle’s range. While Apple aims to begin production in 2024, the ongoing global health crisis and current chip shortage could cause delays.

Turf Field in a Floodplain , Not Getting Any Smarter all these Years Later

Ridgewood NJ, in 2019 the Ridgewood blog reported that the Ridgewood Board of Education voted to again install a rubber crumb based field turf at RHS Field Stadium . In the usual method the Board made its decision without open discussions with residents, vendors ,students  and healthcare and environmental professionals. Crumb Rubber fill is basically ground up car tires .

The Cleanup from IDA Moves forward in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, tropical storm IDA damage  is still being cleaned up in Ridgewood . On Saturday we caught Dave’s Tree Service working a job at 344 highland Avenue. This year’s Tradition of Excellence recipient is Georgia Abrunzo, Database Systems Administrator at the Education Center. Congratulations, Ms. Abrunzo!

Former Ridgewood Councilman Jeff Voigt publicly endorses Paul Vagianos for Village Council – a “kiss of death?”

Ridgewood NJ, the most controversial and despised member (former, thankfully) of the Village Council in decades has just publicly endorsed Paul Vagianos’ campaign for election in November to fill the unexpired Village Council term of Bernadette Walsh (who resigned due to a pending relocation out of state).  The endorsement came by way of a letter to the editor of a local newspaper.

Graydon Pool is Closed for the Season

Ridgewood NJ, The Graydon Pool facility is closed for the season, due to storm related conditions. Unfortunately, Graydon Pool water quality was compromised as a result of Hurricane Ida. Floodwaters breeching the Ho-Ho-Kus Brook, coupled with stormwater runoff from adjacent roadways, resulted in unsafe water quality conditions.

Storm Ida : the Village of Ridgewood Cleanup Goes On

Ridgewood NJ, storm Ida has left the area.  Village employees who worked through the night on Village buildings that flooded and assisted residents with flooding issues at their homes, did a wonderful job.  Village employees and service contractors are also working diligently to get Village Hall and the parking lot ready to open again, to staff and the public.  All Village offices will remain closed tomorrow, 9/3/2021, so that this continued cleanup can be accomplished.

Governor Murphy Declares State of Emergency in Response to Tropical Storm Ida

Trenton NJ,  Governor Phil Murphy declared that New Jersey will enter a State of Emergency effective immediately in response to Tropical Storm Ida. Executive Order No. 259 declares a State of Emergency across all 21 counties in New Jersey, allowing resources to be deployed throughout the state during the duration of the storm.

UPDATE : Hurricane Ida Causes damage in Ridgewood and Across the State

Ridgewood NJ, there were reports of deaths in parts of New Jersey as remnants of Hurricane Ida caused damage all across the state Wednesday. According CBS News Passaic Mayor Hector Lora confirmed to CBS2 that they have reports of multiple fatalities in their downtown area.

FINAL WEEKEND FOR WELCOME TO RIDGEWOOD, PEDESTRIAN PLAZA

Ridgewood NJ, the summer of 2021 is coming to an end and this is the final weekend for the Welcome to Ridgewood event which will run from September 3rd through September 6th.  Beginning at 10:00 a.m. Saturday through 10:00 p.m. on Monday, the Central Business District from North Walnut Street to Broad Street will be closed to vehicular traffic along East Ridgewood Avenue, including the side streets of Oak Street, Prospect Street, and Chestnut Street, which will create a pedestrian plaza.  The retail businesses and outdoor dining in this area will be moved into the streets, and pedestrians will walk on the sidewalks. Come and shop at our many businesses and then stop and enjoy a delicious snack or meal at one of our many eateries.

As part of Welcome to Ridgewood, the final “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” event will be held on September 4th.  Come and participate in this fun event with your entire family.

Rodent Issue Resurfaces in the Central Business District in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, the rat problem persists in the Central Business District . Once again sources are reporting a big rat problem behind Ridgewood coffee and apartments. Rats are not usually seen during the day unless disturbed from their protective harborage or because of intolerable competition from other rats. If rats are seen during the day that usually means a very large rodent population is nearby.
