Ridgewood Board of Education Approves Resolution for Adoption of the Revised 2020-2021 Budget

Ridgewood NJ, at the June 4th Ridgewood Board of Education meeting , Ms. Kelly presented the revised 2020-2021 final budget with adjustments in the amount of $630,000 that were determined by a joint committee of the Village Council and the Board of Education as a result of the failed budget. Ms. Kelly outlined the proposed cuts and adjusted revenues, which can be viewed on the first slide of her presentation. Of the $630,000 in adjustments to the budget, $150,000 is the result of an increase in revenue, and $480,000 reflects reductions on the expense side. Reductions are being made in the areas of custodial, capital outlay, summer maintenance, and administration/benefits as the result of a reduction in a business office position. The second slide of the presentation shows the revised budget lines, indicating changes in the following budget areas: benefits, facilities, administration, and capital.

Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Board of Education will hold its next Regular Public Meeting on Monday, March 2, 2020. The Board meets at the Education Center, 49 Cottage Place, Floor 3 at 7:00 p.m.

The public is welcome to attend the meeting or to watch from home on Fios channel 33 or Optimum channel 77. Meetings are also streamed via the “BOE Webcast” tab on the district website at www.ridgewood.k12.nj.us.

Ridgewood NJ, North Jersey Media ran an article  called , “These Glen Rock, Ridgewood residents are pushing to change local elections. Here’s why”  . In a style that reminds many of why the previous owners of  North Jersey lost virtually their entire circulation with its over the top one sided reporting . In the article North Jersey quoted only members of the group “One Village, One Vote”, a group looking to eliminate residents ability to vote on the school budget .

Why are these people keeping themselves busy trying to spread misinformation to take away people’s voting rights? Stop trying to scare everyone by making Ridgewood voters sound unhinged. Ironic signed by one usually unhinged.

“Matt Lindenberg I’m not blocked by Winograd or Mom’s Dads on Facebook . Took a look at your post and it’s exactly as reported in original comment and not taken out of context. Is there a reason you didn’t include it in your response?
Here it the Facebook post as written by Matt Lindenberg, “I guess I see it as a choice between 50-60% (not positive about those numbers) electing good BOE members to get the budget work done right, or 14% voting to approve it. Given that choice, my opinion 50-60% representation is better. You may disagree.”

Matt Lindenberg, as someone participating in a campaign to take away a voting right, shouldn’t you know the facts? Don’t you have an obligation to tell people the truth? In this instance your 50-60% is completely inaccurate and even more so when considering lack of down-ballot participation.

Ridgewood residents deserve better than a campaign of misinformation.”

Ridgewood NJ, Approval: Resolution for Adoption of the 2019-2020 Budget for Submission to the Executive County Superintendent of Schools The Ridgewood Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, approves the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ridgewood Board of Education approves the 2019-2020 school district budget, as follows, for submission to the Executive County Superintendent of Schools: Dr. Fishbein Budget Tax Levy General Fund $107,043,634 $96,014,943 Special Revenue Fund $ 1,467,567 $ 0 Debt Service Fund $ 3,138,550 $ 2,869,732 Total Budget $111,649,751 $98,884,675

The district has proposed programs and services in addition to the Core Curriculum Content Standards adopted by the State Board of Education. Information on this budget and the programs and services it provides is available from the school district.

There should be raised for the General Fund Tax Levy $96,014,943 for the ensuing School Year: (2019-2020). The General Fund includes $300,000 which is to be withdrawn from Emergency Reserve. CAPITAL RESERVE STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Included in budget line 620, Budgeted Withdrawal from Capital Reserve – Excess Cost & Other Capital Projects, is $1,300,000 for the following construction projects: • Renovation of Four Bathrooms at BFMS and GWMS • Replacement of Stadium Turf Field at RHS • Districtwide Parking Lot Paving • Repairs to the BFMS Track Pole Vault & Javelin Areas

Ridgewood Schools Will See Big Jump in State Aid for 2020

Ridgewood NJ, Governor Murphy today announced state school aid funding for his Fiscal Year 2020 budget proposal that provides record levels of support for New Jersey schools.

The Governor’s proposed budget would provide $15.4 billion to support schools, a record level for New Jersey education funding.

Watched the public comments on TV. It was a love fest for Loncto. Ok. So the guy served 7 years. He deserves some praise. But oh man, the level of drama about his being VOTED OUT OF OFFICE was sickening. And when you consider the people who were waxing nostalgic about him, well, enough said. SO glad Cris Kaufmann is in office as of January 1. And in the next go round we will have two more new faces. Time to CLEAN HOUSE folks.

Resolution for Reduction of 2019-20 Budget 2% Increase by $551,887

WHEREAS, the 2018-2019 Ridgewood School Budget property tax levy exceeded the New Jersey 2% ceiling on annual property tax increases by $551,887 by using allowable waivers under the cap rules; and
WHEREAS, the increases in state aid for the 2018-2019 school year provided the District with additional revenue not built into the 2018-2019 Budget; and
WHEREAS, the Ridgewood School Board voted on July 24, 2018 to revise the annual Requisition of Taxes from $97,996,144 to $97,444,257; and
WHEREAS, the reduction in the Requisition of Taxes was achieved using part of the additional state aid; and
WHEREAS, by reducing the Requisition of Taxes by $551,887, the property tax base was not reduced, and this amount will be in future year property taxes for purposes of calculating the allowable 2% annual increases; and
WHEREAS, it was the intention of the Ridgewood School Board to permanently reduce the property tax base by the restored $551,887;
NOW BE IT RESOLVED, the Ridgewood School Board does hereby instruct that the 2019-2020 Ridgewood School Budget be prepared under the assumption that the maximum allowable property tax increase is set at 2% LESS $551,887 to permanently eliminate the effects of the2018-2019 property tax increas

Reader says I am afraid that no-one with a brain or financial ability will stay/or move to Ridgewood

The obvious answer to your questions is No and No. Town members care, but the people in charge act like we don’t exist –so nobody is there, and they all have soundproof earplugs–so nobody cares! They have set up an impenetrable wall between themselves and the voters. They only pretend to care when it is nearing the elections. They pretend to listen to villager complaints but continue on their merry way with excessive spending on ANY project that ANY ONE thinks they’d like to see in Ridgewood. We can’t just vote them all out because they take their turns at election time. Nobody who seems to have a brain in their heads and some financial awareness wants to run. Who wants to take on all the personal attacks they would be subjected to if they try to contradict any of the rotten ideas presented? I am afraid that no-one with a brain or financial ability will stay/or move to Ridgewood.
