
Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce Celebrates the Village of Ridgewood First Holiday Sale Day December 5th!

Ridgewood NJ, The Village of Ridgewood will be holding a Downtown for the Holidays event this year, which will be in keeping with COVID-19 restrictions. Social distancing and face masks will be required. The event will be held on December 4, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The streets will be open to traffic, so we invite you to stroll on the sidewalks and enjoy the kickoff to the holidays. The Village Christmas tree, at the corner of East Ridgewood Avenue and Broad Street, will already be lit, and will be glowing with lights, the trees in Memorial Park at Van Neste Square and at Station Plaza will be decorated with festive ornaments donated by residents, businesses, groups, and organizations; there will be a Kid’s Corner with a drawing to take home and submit for a prize; music throughout the area will be provided by various groups; dancers from Art of Motion Dance Theatre and youth from HeART in Motion Studio will perform in store windows, and be sure to take a walk to the west side of the Central Business District, through the decorated pedestrian tunnel!

Ridgewood NJ, The Welcome Back to Ridgewood, Event which creates a pedestrian mall between Broad Street and Walnut Street, took place every weekend during the summer and into the fall. At this time, the event will be put on hiatus until the weather warms up next year. In the meantime, please continue to go to our many eateries, some of which have heated igloos or greenhouses or outdoor areas with heaters, so that you can continue to dine outdoors in the colder weather.

Ridgewood NJ, At the request of restaurants and retailers, the pedestrian mall, for the Welcome Back to Ridgewood, NJ event will be cancelled this weekend, October 31st and November 1st. Please continue to shop and dine at our many fine retailers, restaurants, and eateries on both the east side and west side of the Village’s Central Business District now, and throughout the upcoming holiday season.
On this day, 244 years ago, the Second Continental Congress voted to adopt the Declaration of Independence. Even though they had already declared independence two days earlier, the American people were so moved by the Declaration that thereafter July 4th became our birthday. Happy Birthday America!
On this Memorial Day weekend, we remember those who sacrificed their lives for “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who are grieving. May we, as Abraham Lincoln famously said, “highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain–that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom–and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

RIDGEWOOD NJ, On Saturday, December 22, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) wrapped holiday gifts for North Jersey families at Bookends bookstore in Ridgewood.
“The holidays are such an important time for small businesses across the country and here in New Jersey, ” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “I am so proud that there are so many great businesses in my district, like Bookends here in Ridgewood. I want to thank Walter Boyer for having me at his store and I encourage everyone to go check Bookends out, whether for the book selection or the author events they regularly host.”
Congressman Gottheimer went on to say, “Small businesses play a vital role in our economy in the Fifth District and neighborhoods across the country, especially during this key retail season. The federal government shutdown hurt small businesses, because it impacts small business loan applications. We can prevent that by getting folks to the table to finalize a deal to reopen the government, just like business owners do every day.”
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, New Jersey boasts 1.7 million small business employees working for over 820,000 small businesses. 98.3% of the state’s businesses are small businesses and they employ more than half of New Jersey’s workers.
Bookends in Ridgewood has been a staple in the community and a renowned bookstore for more than thirty years. They have hosted over 1,000 authors in the last fifteen years from politics, pop culture, and fiction. During the holiday season, they wrap gifts in their store free of charge.

Ridgewood NJ, Shoppers across the U.S. are getting ready to Shop Small on Small Business Saturday, celebrated this year on November 24th, and their local economic impact could be significant. According to the new Small Business Economic Impact Study from American Express, an average two-thirds ($0.67) of every dollar spent at a small business stays in the local community.
