the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, It is with mixed emotions that the Pro Arte Chorale announces the departure of our Music Director, Steven Fox at the end of our 2017-2018 season. Maestro Fox
recently accepted the position of Music Director at The Cathedral Choral Society in Washington DC, succeeding its music director of three decades, J. Reilly Lewis.
We are thrilled for Steven as he moves on to the wonderful opportunity and challenge of leading a large symphonic chorus in Washington National Cathedral,
but we are very sorry to lose his inspiring musicianship and conducting talents that have brought Pro Arte Chorale to new artistic heights over the past six seasons.

You still have an opportunity to see Steven's brilliant conducting and hear the lovely choral sound he elicits from us in our final two concerts with him.
On Sunday, March 18 Pro Arte Chorale will present a concert featuring a selection of favorites from the operettas of Gilbert & Sullivan. The Chorale will be joined by
baritone Richard Holmes, a veteran of the renowned NY Gilbert & Sullivan Players, for this light-hearted concert for the whole family. Our final concert with
Maestro Fox will take place on Sunday, June 3, featuring the Masters of Baroque:  Handel & Coronation Anthems and Vivaldi & Gloria, with brass and percussion
from NY’s Clarion Orchestra. Both concerts will take place at 4:00pm at  Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ridgewood.
You won’t want to miss these final two concerts with Grammy-nominated Steven  Fox.

Get your tickets now to experience his brilliant musicianship before he moves on to greater conducting heights! To purchase tickets please visit our

Ridgewood Councilmen Ramon Hache updates the Valley Hospital Litigation

stopvalley

January 18,2018

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, councilmen Ramon Hache sums up the Valley Hospital Litigation. One of the most divisive issues we covered on the Ridgewood blog.

Councilmen Hache, “2017 may have seen the end to 8 years of litigation and 10 years of controversy that caused one of the most significant divides in the history of Ridgewood. The announcement of Valley Hospital in January 2017 to move the Hospital’s acute care in-patient facility to Paramus was the catalyst to resolving the major issues between the Hospital and the Village and anti-expansion residents.

Although never challenging Valley’s right or interest in expanding to provide 21st century healthcare, the location of the expansion at the Linwood Avenue campus and its breadth were the contentious issues that were litigated in trial in 2016. Once the Hospital’s intention to move to Paramus was made public and it filed a Certificate of Need with the State to approve such move, the parties to the litigation entered into serious and extensive settlement negotiations while the appeal of the trial decision was pending.

In October, 2017, a tentative settlement was reached which was later accepted by the Village Council in November. The settlement is based upon the hope that the Certificate of Need is granted by the State. If it is granted, the Hospital intends to keep the size of the Ridgewood facility in tact, only modifying the site for a new power plant and exhaust stack, and changing some of the heath care related services provided at the site, even possibly providing space for senior housing. A decision on the Certificate of Need from the state Department of health is expected in early 2018.”

Schedler Property : The new plan is significantly scaled down compared to the 2015 plan

schedler field

January 17,2018

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, according to Councilmen Ramon Hache’s latest news letter , the Village Council rescinded the 2015 resolution that included a 90 ft. baseball diamond and a 120 x 75 yard multi-purpose field. To be clear, a 90 ft. diamond refers to the distance between the bases, not the depth of the outfield. The 2015 plan would have led to the clear-cutting of most of the trees on the property and the athletic fields component would have taken up more than 4 acres (total size of the property is 7 acres).

The Councilmen states, ” The Schedler property presented a few challenges, some of which were immediate and some required some planning into the future. There were numerous dead trees, hanging limbs and leaning trees that had to be removed immediately since they posed a liability. The cleanup was authorized in October. In order to move forward on planning for the future use of the property, the Village Council created an ad hoc committee to propose a development plan. The ad hoc committee met regularly and also reached out to residents and sports groups for input regarding their respective needs.

The ad hoc committee presented its recommendation to the Village Council in December. The new plan is significantly scaled down compared to the 2015 plan. It strikes a balance between the needs of the neighborhood, and sports groups, while taking consideration of historical preservation and passive recreation. The new plan does not include a baseball diamond and the proposed 50 x 75 yard multipurpose field only takes up a little over ¾ of an acre. The plan includes parking, a playground, walking trails, and bathrooms with a built-in overhang that can provide shelter from lightning. The next phase of planning will involve cost estimates. Only then will the Village Council be ready to move forward on a final plan.”
