Ridgewood NJ, many of the major proponents of the parking deck in the central business district are starting to have second thoughts. Realizing that taking a sizable debt load for a depreciating structure that requires systemic subsidy was not a smart idea.  A little late to do anything about the structure, like turf fields in flood zones and the Village Hall wreck-on-vacation another thing resident taxpayers will be stuck with forever .

” If they don’t restore two lanes in each direction at the underpass by the train station VERY VERY SOON (by the fall would be good) it is going to become nearly impossible to shut it down during construction and traffic will become more of a nightmare than it is now. It is going to cost a fortune but the need to remove the idiotic bike lane and revert to two car lanes in each direction was clear and inevitable from the day they announced the project that messed it up. Aronsohn must be laughing hard as he must always have known this would simply mean more contract $$$ for the construction unions who financially supported his political rise. “

Reader says ANY Garagzilla project needs to INCLUDE FUNDING to rip out the idiotic Bike Lane

At the time, we were told that (a wondrous) grant would pay for (most?) of the fabulous Bike Lane and it would be a win for everyone and that the grant money must be used for this purpose (traffic easing – aka stealth population control to force a socialist agenda driven by the master plan known as “Agenda 21” – look it up). It’s a big F U sugar coated in feel good language and yes, we are stuck with it.

I think that ANY Garagzilla project needs to INCLUDE FUNDING to rip out the idiotic Bike Lane to nowhere AND INCLUDE FUNDS TO PAY BACK THE GRANT – otherwise no garage gets built.

Suicide Bike Lanes Continue to Cause Congestion at the Ridgewood Train Station

Ridgewood NJ, at Wednesday’s night Council meeting residents voiced concerns over the additional spaces at the Ridgewood Train station . The main concern has now shifted to to an issue the Ridgewood blog has commented for some time. Its not the parking its CONGESTION !

A reader commented ,”by re-configuring the grassy medium ….none of these experts even use the train lot try exiting between 6 and 730 on a dark winter night..pedestrian death trap”
Why the answer is simple the , STUPID SUICIDE BIKE LANES. The “traffic easing” project at the train trestle did more damage to Village businesses in the Central Business district than any other misstep . It is well documented that the so called “traffic easing ” makes both West Ridgewood and Godwin impassable during certain hours of the day . This will clearly only be exacerbated buy new construction on Franklin. Going from two lanes to single lanes was just DUMB and DANGEROUS.

Ridgewood NJ, Wednesday nights presentation by the village engineer and resident Jeanne Johnson on the availability of a grant for the purpose of pedestrian safety and alternate transit opportunities ( bikes) for municipalities.  Better stop lights, bike lanes, refuge islands etc.  Mayor Knudsen felt that she would need more information as there had been many  complaints regarding the Garber Square do to the so called improvements ie “traffic easing” and  “suicide bike lane”. The council will read the plans and come to a decision.  The grant application is due November 10th.

Jeanne Johnson actually had the audacity to say that she regularly sees bikers using the “bike lane to and from nowhere,” and to blame all of the complaints about it on the fact that “there was a new Village Council and new Village Manager at the same time?” Hello Jeanne: What have you been smoking lately. The Garber Square bike lane is useless.

Jeanne Johnson claimed she has many photos of people using the bike lane under the railroad tracks??? You take your life in your hands if you use it. I would like to see her MANY photos.

Rutishauser was unwilling to show the plan to the council for the new bike lanes, even when the mayor asked for the plan. Too large to print. Too large to burn onto a disc. Too large to email. What the heck? He wanted them to approve a plan without seeing the plan? For real? And then when the Mayor asked him what happened to the suggestions for the grant that she and other council members had submitted to him he just said that the suggestions were no good and he dismissed them.

But then a reader asked the obvious ,In what capacity was Jeanne Johnsohn sitting with the village engineer? What’s her qualification and has village hired her to be a consultant?
