Fair Lawn NJ, Columbia Bank is proud to announce its ongoing support of OASIS – A  Haven for Women and Children, located in Paterson, NJ. The mission of the nonprofit is to change lives by breaking  the cycle of poverty through compassionate programs designed to feed, clothe, educate, and empower women and  children in need. On September 13, at its 33rd Annual Golf Outing, Columbia Bank raised $100,000 to benefit the  organization which Columbia Bank has assisted throughout the years. 144 golfers participated in the annual fundraiser  which took place at North Jersey Country Club in Wayne, New Jersey.

Demarest NJ, Teen environmentalist Ellie Sawyer is doing her part to restore New Jersey’s Barnegat Bay. In 2015, this Weehawken resident got involved with Reclam the Bay at the suggestion of her aunt and a family friend. Sawyer’s continuing involvement is a positive indicator of a perfect fit.

Ridgewood Volunteer Program Feed the Frontlines and Helping Those In Need Awarded NJ Governor’s Jefferson Medallion for Community Service

Ridgewood NJ,  Volunteer Program Feed the Frontlines and Helping Those in Need funded through the HealthBarn Foundation 501c3 by public donations in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic was awarded the 2021 NJ Governor’s Jefferson Medallion, known as the Nobel Peace Prize of Volunteerism, for outstanding community service as a volunteer group on September 12, 2021 at the Grounds for Sculpture, Trenton, NJ.  There were 12 finalists for the Volunteer Program/Group category and Feed the Frontlines was selected to receive the prestigious Jefferson Medallion.  Team members accepting the award for over 400 volunteers included Stacey Antine, MS, RDN, Founder, Director of the Foundation, Paul Vagianos, owner It’s Greek to Me and Bergen County Commissioner Tracy Zur who also spearheads the county’s Food Security Task Force.  The Jefferson Awards, founded in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Senator Robert Taft, Jr., and Sam Beard, is America’s top honor for public service. For 46 years, the Jefferson Awards have honored a who’s who of American change makers and more than 50,000 community volunteers.

Newark NJ, the U.S. Marshals Service has conducted a high-impact fugitive apprehension initiative focusing on some of the most violent offenders throughout New Jersey. This enforcement initiative, called Operation “Clean Sweep,” resulted in the arrest of more than 190 fugitives, gang members, sex offenders and violent criminals in the District of New Jersey.

SUV Drives into Glen Rock Restaurant

Glen Rock NJ, No injuries were reported following the Thursday evening, 09/23, crash of a BMW SUV into the front of Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard, 1020 Maple Avenue, Glen Rock. The vehicle sustained only very minor damage, but the establishment’s glass store front was demolished, along with some interior furnishings. Glen Rock Police, Glen Rock Fire Department, and Glen Rock EMS responded to the mishap. Code enforcement and health department personnel were notified via telephone of the incident. Police at the scene did not provide information as to the crash’s likely cause.
