It’s official: N.J. Police Licensure Act Takes Effect

Ridgewood NJ,  new state law went into effect this month requiring New Jersey’s approximately 40,500 police officers to hold valid, active licenses issued by the Police Training Commission (PTC) in order to serve as law enforcement officers.

Bergenfield Couple Charged After Child Ingests Cocaine

Bergenfield NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of RAYMOND SYLVESTER (DOB: 3/14/1968; single; physical therapist) of Bergenfield, NJ and LESHAWNDA NIXON (DOB: 12/27/1990; single; unemployed) of Brooklyn, NY on charges of endangering the welfare of a child and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. The arrests are the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Bergenfield Police Department under the direction of Chief Mustafa Rabboh.

Village of Ridgewood Launches Portal to Detail Resident Flood Events

Ridgewood NJ, the Village of Ridgewood has launched an online portal for residents to submit details and photos of prior flood events that have impacted their homes. The data collected will be compiled for Village use and may be shared with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, the United States Army Corps of Engineers, and FEMA. Our purpose is to create a historical database of residential flooding in Ridgewood to help create a long-term flood mitigation plan and assist our first responders and engineering staff.

Architects Hired to Plan Historical Pedestrian Tunnel Renovation at Ridgewood Train Station

Ridgewood NJ, according to Village Manager Kieth Kazmak , Connolly & Hickey Historical Architects, an architecture firm specializing in the restoration and rehabilitation of historic properties has been retained by the Village to design the restoration of the pedestrian tunnel at our train station. Repairing structural issues, ADA considerations and a new aesthetic design, including public artwork, are all part of the project. Later this year, plans will be made available for public review and feedback prior to being submitted to the NJ State Historic Preservation Office for approval.

Ridgewood Student Gun Turns Out to Be Toy Gun

Ridgewood NJ, according to Ridgewood Chief  of Police Forest R. Lyons, on January 31, 2024, the Ridgewood Police Department was made aware that a student at one of our schools was in possession of a toy gun. Our officers immediately ensured the toy was secured and there was no threat to any students or staff. Our department determined the miniature, plastic toy gun was not used to commit/attempt to commit a crime, was not an imitation firearm, and not of evidentiary value. No further police action was deemed necessary beyond the initial investigation.

Motorist Drives Through Their Garage Door in Hasbrouck Heights

Hasbrouck Heights NJ, around 5:30 PM Monday evening the Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department was dispatched to Raymond Street for a vehicle into a structure. Chief 62 got on the scene and confirmed the accident with entrapment. Crews from Squad 1 extricated the patient and turned her over to Holy Name EMS to be evaluated. Wood-Ridge Fire Department and Hackensack Fire Department ’s Safety Chief assisted on the scene while Moonachie and Lodi Fire Departments covered the borough.
