Platkin announced today that the New Jersey Bureau of Securities (“Bureau”) within the Division of Consumer Affairs (“Division”) has filed a civil enforcement action against the former vice-president of a New Jersey-based real estate investment firm that defrauded investors nationwide who had invested $630 million in that firm.

Defeated Incumbent Appointed to Unexpired Term by Saddle River Board of Education

Saddle River NJ, a defeated incumbent from the recent Board of Education election has been appointed to fill the unexpired term of a fellow trustee. Evelyn Nissirios, who lost her bid to newcomer Kunal Bhatia, was chosen to complete the remaining one-year term of former trustee John Peros at the December 13 board meeting. Although Nissirios was defeated by Bhatia for the full three-year term in November, the board expressed hope that having both candidates, who received voter confidence, would foster community unity. Peros resigned in October, triggering a 65-day window for the board to fill the vacant seat. Nissirios’ appointment was accepted on December 6th.

Spot Light On First Responders: Ridgewood Police and Firefighters Quickly Extricate Driver Minutes Before Afternoon Dismissal of Local Elementary School

Ridgewood NJ, a horrific motor vehicle crash with a rollover and an entrapment occurred in a busy intersection right next to a Trevell elementary school in Ridgewood just 15-20 minutes prior to the school’s afternoon student dismissal on Wednesday, 12/20. A maroon colored Subaru apparently T-Boned a while colored Nissan Rogue at the intersection of East Glen Avenue and Fairfield Avenue, causing the Nissan to roll over on its roof, trapping the driver inside. Ridgewood firefighters quickly extricated the driver, who was transported by ambulance to The Valley Hospital with non life threatening injuries. No other crash related injuries were reported. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. Ridgewood Police patrol officers and a patrol supervisor also responded to the incident and are investigating the collision.

Lieutenant of the Bergen Prosecutor Office Faces Multiple Charges Including Tampering With Evidence

Paramus NJ, a lieutenant from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, identified as Kevin T. Matthew, 47, of Cedar Grove, is facing allegations of unauthorized removal of narcotics evidence, which included cocaine and fentanyl, from storage. Subsequently, the drugs were returned, but officials claim they were in “substantially different” conditions, as per the attorney general’s announcement on Tuesday.
