Trenton NJ, Senator Jim Holzapfel and Assemblymen Greg McGuckin and John Catalano are introducing a resolution today calling on Governor Phil Murphy to begin the immediate reopening of businesses in accordance with CDC guidelines to restart the New Jersey economy. The 10th District legislators stressed the importance of opening businesses on the Jersey Shore that rely on the summer months from Memorial Day to Labor Day for the majority of their annual income. Without a plan to reopen before Memorial Day, many business owners at the shore are concerned for their futures and livelihoods.

Ridgewood Crew Wins Gold, Silver and Bronze in the North Jersey Virtual Scrimmage Series

Ridgewood NJ,  Just ahead of Ridgewood Schools going virtual on Friday, March 13, Ridgewood Crew (RC) distributed rowing machines known as “ergometers” to those rowers of the 2020 Crew Team, that did not have their own machines at home. Since then, RC Coaches have been issuing and tracking the practice and progress of the athletes virtually.

Despite most spring sports’ seasons being completely cancelled, the local rowing community has been participating in a dynamic series of virtual scrimmages where each athlete participates from their own home, competing for best time.

Trenton NJ,  Governor Phil Murphy today signed Executive Order No. 138 which extends the Public Health Emergency declared on March 9, 2020 through Executive Order No. 103 and extended on April 7 through Executive Order No. 119. Under the Emergency Health Powers Act, a declared public health emergency expires after 30 days unless renewed.

Ridgewood School District Working on Virtual Alternatives High School Graduation and Promotion Ceremonies

Ridgewood NJ,  at the Monday night School Board meeting ,Dr. Fishbein began by stating that Governor Murphy has closed schools for students for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year and that students would finish the year via virtual home instruction. He expressed that no one wants to be back in the schools more than educators. Dr. Fishbein thanked the teachers for their hard work and commitment and expressed they have done an amazing job planning and executing virtual learning for our students. Acknowledging the challenges of remote instruction, he reiterated that educators would prefer to be in school with their students and to celebrate all of the end-of-year traditions that are being impacted by the current public health crisis.

A Third of New Jersey Bridges Need Repair

Trenton NJ, Two recent reports show that New Jersey had more bridges in need of repair in 2019 than in 2018, although the number of bridges in poor condition went down. According to the American Road and Transportation Builders Association Bridge Report, New Jersey had 2,357 bridges in need of repairs in 2019, with an estimated cost of $9.9 billion. This is up from 2018, when NJ had 2,305 bridges in need of repair with an estimated cost of $7 billion. The average age of bridges in New Jersey is 55 years old.

Governor Murphy Announces That Schools Will Remain Closed Through the End of the Academic Year

Ridgewood NJ, Citing the need to protect the health of New Jersey’s 1.6 million public and private school students as well as thousands of educators and support staff, Governor Phil Murphy today announced that statewide school closures will be extended through the end of the 2019-2020 academic year. Private schools with longer academic years will remain closed until at least June 30.
