Ridgewood Nj, the Village of Ridgewood once again faces a clear and present danger of being overrun by massive over development and turned into Hackensack 2.0 . With great urgency the Ridgewood blog whole heartily endorses Mayor Susan Knudsen and James Van Goor for election to the Village Council.
Both Mayor Knudsen and former Fire Chief James Van Goor have a dedicated track record of service through their roles on the Village Council, Fire department, as well as the various committees and boards that they have actively served on over the years.
Mayor Knudsen and former Fire Chief James Van Goor are favored by central business shop owners who are greatly impacted by actions of the Village Council.
Mayor Knudsen has made significant improvements to the Village, including controlling overdevelopment, achieving a positive outcome with Valley Hospital ,working towards a compromise for building a garage, moving forward on the Saddle River Road Footbridge and developing and upgrading the Schedler property at a cost far under Habernickel Family Park.
Former Fire Chief James Van Goor is a soft spoken stand up guy, and brings tremendous experience of running the Ridgewood fire department for many years, participation in village committees and volunteer work.
Under Mayor Knudsen leadership, the Village Council withstood a massive push for proposed high-density housing that would have overburdened our town’s already over taxed infrastructure, school system, public safety, water and sewage , leading to an ever increasing property tax burden.
The other two candidates have over and over again demonstrated that they favor increased development , less transparency, and less resident participation that would permanently destroy the last remaining bit of character left in the Village. Ridgewood is still reeling from the massive spree of unplanned overdevelopment pushed by former Mayor Paul Aronsohn and his cronies. One of the candidates claimed at the time Aronsohn didn’t go far enough.
In contrast, both Mayor Knudsen and former Fire Chief James Van Goor have local land use and municipal government experience. They understand the methods that developers used to navigate the system and enact favorable high-density zoning.
The Village lost an important right when the school budget vote was lost. Residents now no longer have a say. This change was spearheaded by the efforts of one of the candidates running against Knudsen and Van Goor.
The Council already contains two members who clearly favor increased development. Electing even one more such person would throw the majority vote their way, and Ridgewood will become the new junior Hackensack .

Agree, I hope the support is there and we can end this election. Tired of living in fear of the soccer mom minions all around town.
Lets go. No excuse not to vote.
last call for the entire neighborhood near and around Valley
just say no to the friend of builder candidates or your neighborhood will be a construction zone for years
Paulie V. should recuse himself from any ordinance regarding downtown dining.
Paulie V was driving discussions about downtown parking. How is this allowed. Where is the Village attorney?
Something stinks
