BY: Washington Free Beacon Staff

President and founder of Subway Fred Deluca described some of the challenges payroll tax increases and Obamacare have presented small business franchisee owners Wednesday on CNBC.

Deluca said the number one issue facing Subway franchisee owners is how Obamacare will impact their expenses, noting any increase in costs will be passed along to the consumer through higher prices.

Additionally, when asked about the modern business climate for young entrepreneurs, the Subway founder stated “Subway would not exist” if he started it today due to onerous government regulations:

US incomes dropped by the most in 20 years
By Michelle Jamrisko – Mar 1, 2013 8:37 AM ET

Consumer spending in the U.S. rose in January even as incomes dropped by the most in 20 years, showing households were weathering the payroll-tax increase by socking away less money in the bank.

Household purchases, which account for about 70 percent of the economy, climbed 0.2 percent after a 0.1 percent gain the prior month, a Commerce Department report showed today in Washington. The median estimate in a Bloomberg survey of 76 economists called for a 0.2 percent advance. Incomes slumped 3.6 percent, sending the saving rate down to the lowest level since November 2007.

Tiger Team Recommendations: Establish a Five Year Staffing Strategy

Tiger Team Recommendations: Establish a Five Year Staffing Strategy

The Village should establish a five-year staffing plan that incorporates anticipated attrition, compensation
rates for new hires, outsourcing,  civilianization opportunities and modeling of efficient staffing levels.

Personnel costs, staffing levels, and service offerings are some of the main drivers of the excessive operating costs of the Village. Historically, when one Village employee retires, another is hired as a replacement with little or no attempt to reengineer other employees’ duties to consolidate
positions or reduce cost.

Across the Village, a significant number of employees are near or currently eligible for full -time retirement benefits. These long-term employees are at th
e highest end of the pay scale and it is critical for Village management to evaluate the cost – benefit for them tocontinue working for the Village or attempt to accelerate their retirements and replace them, if necessary, with lower cost employees . This must be facilitated nunder collective bargaining agreements . In order to properly evaluate this, the concessions from existing employees, as well as the terms of contracts for new hires must be known. There fore, this analysis should be performed in conjunction with collective bargaining agreement negotiations, in collaboration with
the FOB, and in alignment with the Strategic Financial Plan.

The manner in which services are delivered must be closely evaluated for every service offering throughout the Village. If the Board of Education can save hundreds of thousands of dollars by terminating the use of Village services and outsourcing them, it is only logical that the Village itself could save significantly larger amounts by doing the same. As referenced throughout this report, Village management must carefully evaluate the cost-benefit of outsourcing the delivery of all service offerings.

The analysis of all of these components requires coordination among numerous departments and Village management. In order to more effectively manage future personnel levels and compensation/benefit costs, in terms of the immediate and long-term impact , the committee believes it is critical for management to develop a five-year staffing plan.

Critics contend that the World Mission Society – Church of God is a cult, a  cult that targets college students and young people .

The World Mission Society Church of God, a cult from Korea, (no, not the Moonies this time) is recruiting on campus. They are secretive, exclusivist and boast of a membership of over one million followers. Students who join the movement are being subjected to a series of coercive psychological techniques (yes, just like the Moonies) designed to persuade them to turn over their lives to this mystical sect from the Far East.

Who Are They?

The Church of God is a destructive cult portraying itself as a mainstream religion. By exploiting Christian terminology and the Bible, they are manipulating their followers to further the goals of the movement, namely money and power. A former Seventh-day Adventist, and self proclaimed messiah, “Ahnsahnghong” founded the organization in Korea in 1964.

After his death and subsequent ascension to heaven in 1985, Ahnsahnghong was succeeded by his spiritual wife Zahng-Gil-Jah; also known as Mother God, Heavenly Mother and New Jerusalem Mother. Members pray to her and are encouraged to visit Korea to pay her homage. Mother God is the core of their faith. https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100220161831AAvaDEj

”Sniping under anonymous will do nothing.”

Sorry Paul, I don’t agree with the statement,”Sniping under anonymous will do nothing.”Although I would like nothing more than to sign my name to a comment on this subject, I have three very good reasons not to… and would be a complete fool if I did !

Unfortunately, there are legitimate reasons some in this dialogue will have to not sign their name. Something is better than nothing, at least in this particular case.

Although I certainly applaud what the CRR (and other opponents) has done, and continues to do, I am certainly in the camp that speaks to “improve, don’t expand.”

Funny that the mayor mention anonymity , just after the Fly article on CRR the Ridgewood blog was bombarded by spam comments from hoast provider BCM Netco Solutions a proxy server used to make anonymous threats toward people, a known spam site and an internet scam site

Fishbein: The bottom line on the budget

Fishbein: The bottom line on the budget
Friday, March 29, 2013
By DANIEL FISHBEIN
COLUMNIST

Each year when I start the process of developing the next year’s school district budget, I have the opportunity to reflect on my role as superintendent of schools. As complex and involved as the superintendent’s job may be, in reality my role is quite simply defined. I am here to support the important work of educating each and every child who attends Ridgewood Public Schools.

School board elections will be held from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16.

That role is at the forefront when I present a fiscally responsible budget to the Board of Education, and ultimately the voting public, for approval every April. First and foremost, the budget must support the primary mission of educating all students by providing a rigorous, current and appropriate curriculum and programs. By law, we must meet what are called Common Core State Standards. But to achieve the excellence for which our district is known requires a budget that has built in opportunities for students to go above and beyond the core fundamentals.

Getting down to brass taxes in Ridgewood

The Ridgewood News

The same fiscal challenges that appeared in previous years have resurfaced as the Ridgewood Council moves forward in drafting the 2013 municipal spending plan. The major difference with this year’s budget season, however, is the approach that the governing body wants to take in establishing the final numbers.

After two consecutive nights of special budget meetings, in which several department heads detailed their individual spending proposals, Mayor Paul Aronsohn said Ridgewood was already heading down a path similar to previous years’ budget processes. The “business-as-usual” method was something he hoped to avoid.

“It dawned on me that we were going in the same direction as every year,” Aronsohn told The Ridgewood News on Wednesday, describing how finance officers provide budget recommendations, including a proposed tax increase, and then ask council members to slash expenses and reduce the tax hike based on their line-by-line review of the individual department budgets.

Valley Hospital’s donation denied due to pending expansion proposal

The Ridgewood News

A financial donor is willing to contribute and fund the production of Ridgewood’s updated emergency preparedness guide, but the Village Council will likely decline the monetary offer.

The council’s decision, which was discussed Wednesday night, was made simply because of the timing and the potential donor: The Valley Hospital.

Earlier this week, hospital officials filed a Ridgewood Planning Board application to expand its current 570,000-square-foot facility to 910,000 square feet.

The scope of the proposal is smaller when compared with the hospital’s original 1.2-million-square foot Renewal plan, which was rejected by Village Council in 2011. Despite the scaled down plan, residents who opposed the first Renewal are already arguing that the reduction was not large enough.
