Sounds like the high school administrators and the soon-to-be student protest “leaders” were working hand in glove to bring Ridgewood residents a slick, smoothly produced protest event. But wait…isn’t this the same Principal Gorman who on Monday, 3/12 referred to the anticipated student walkout as a “powderkeg?” You can’t have it both ways, Principal Gorman. So which was it? Why would you characterize it as a powderkeg if you had such a significant hand in bringing it to fruition? And how does all of this square with your solemn responsibilities as the leader of one of the biggest high schools in the county?
Ridgewood NJ, St. Patrick’s Day would not be complete if law enforcement didn’t put some witty spin on luck of the Irish as it relates to getting behind the wheel of a car after drinking. You’ll get no so such satisfaction here. Daring to be different, we’ll begrudgingly abstain from the all-too-familiar banter you’ll see everywhere else—hopefully. You’ll just have to read on to find out.
Instead, we’ll talk about DWI checkpoints and why you should never get behind the wheel regardless of whether or not it’s a holiday. Let’s first remind everyone that checkpoints are legal here in New Jersey and are used as a deterrent. We strongly recommend ignoring the advice of those who don’t believe this to be true—the people who encourage motorists to not comply with officers at checkpoints. This is not sound advice. If those people follow their own advice, perhaps they can use the gold they procured from an angry leprechaun to pay their fines.
So, with that being said, here are the details:
In an effort to make our roads safer and reduce crashes attributed to driving while under the influence, the New Jersey State Police will set up a sobriety checkpoint on Saturday, March 17, in the area of Belmar Borough and Neptune Township.
If you see a driver you believe is posing a hazard because of poor driving behaviors, please call the aggressive driver tip line from a hands-free mobile device to report it by dialing #77. Be ready to give a description of the vehicle and occupants, a location and direction, and a license plate if possible.
Troopers will be looking for signs of impairment due to alcohol or drugs. If you plan on drinking, have a designated driver, arrange for a taxi or ride share service like Uber or Lyft, or stay where you are. It’s not worth the risk of hurting or killing yourself, a friend, a loved one, or innocent motorist.

Oakland NJ, Borough of Oakland Police Department report that on March 7th at approximately 2am, several US Post Office collection boxes were broken into and all of the contents inside were stolen. The collection boxes broken into were the two in front of the Oakland branch of the US Post Office, the box at the intersection of Rutgers Drive and Franklin Avenue, and the box at 107 Bauer Drive. Franklin Lakes Police Department is also investigating a similar incident that occurred the same night in front of the Franklin Lakes branch of the US Post Office.
The US Postal Inspector, Oakland Police Department, and Franklin Lakes Police Department are working together to investigate the thefts. If you placed any mail into any Oakland collection boxes immediately prior to these thefts and the contents were payments made by check, we advise you to cancel the checks and report this theft to the US Postal Inspection Service with any documentation supporting the incident. If the checks were already cashed, follow up with the individual or company the check was written to in order to be sure they actually received the payment and not the offender(s) involved in the thefts. If any personal information (date of birth, social security number, driver’s license number, etc.) was included, we encourage residents to respond to their local police department to file an identity theft report and to monitor all accounts and credit bureaus.

Ridgewood NJ, New Jersey school districts got a first look at their state aid figures for the coming school year on Thursday, jut two days after Gov. Phil Murphy unveiled his tax gouging $37.4 billion spending plan.
Every singe school district in Bergen county will get extra aid under the plan, which boosts aid to schools state wide by $283 million, up 3.5 percent from a year earlier.
The rate of increase ranged significantly in districts, with Haworth, Paramus, Franklin Lakes getting boosts larger than 15 percent. Others, like, Leonia and Englewood got increases less than 2 percent.
In the Murphy Budget Ridgewood would get an increase of $2,586,693 a 5.4% increase , Ho-Ho-Kus $556,782 or a 7.9% increase , Midland Park $742,564 a huge 14.7% increase ,Glen Rock $1,335,305 an 11.6% and Paramus $2,542,3741 or an even larger 15.3% increase .

Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT will operate extra bus service on selected routes to and from the Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT) on Saturday, March 17, to accommodate customers traveling to the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City. Trains will operate on a regular weekend schedule. Newark Light Rail will operate on a Saturday schedule. Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will operate on a weekend schedule.
IMPORTANT NOTE: No beverages of any kind, in any type of container, open or closed, will be permitted on board trains, buses or light rail vehicles on Saturday, March 17, and Sunday, March 18. This policy will be strictly enforced.

Glen Rock NJ, A mini van collided with a utility pole at the intersection of Heather Lane and Maple Avenue in Glen Rock on Thursday morning, 03/15. The vehicle’s driver was transported by an ambulance from The Valley Hospital to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson with non life threatening injuries. A flatbed tow truck removed the wreck. Glen Rock Police and Glen Rock Fire Department responded to the incident. A portion of Maple Avenue remained closed for an extended period while crews from PSE&G worked at the scene.
