Ridgewood NJ, I found this in my Sunday copy of The Record. Did anyone else get one? What does this really mean?

I’ve seen no notice in The Record about the acquisition of a new company.Very strange.

Meanwhile ,The Villadom Times shut its doors overnight a few months back. They owner couldn’t even find a buyer who was willing to pay one dollar for the paper. The Ridgewood News and the Suburban News seem to be carrying fewer and fewer ads. I can’t remember the last time I saw an advertisement of any substance in the NY Times’ sports section. Classified advertising in The Record is minimal. The company that owns the Star Ledger and the Jersey Journal just had massive layoffs. And the local Gannett papers just plain suck.

So long to Ritzy and farewell to Cinderella Rockafella – the long tradition of the great British nightclub appears to be on the way out.

Even famous London dance-music clubs such as Turnmills, Bagley’s and The End have succumbed to a process that has seen the UK’s total portfolio of nightclubs shrink by almost half from 3,144 in 2005 to 1,733 a decade later.

The statistic from the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR) is a signal not just of the effect of the smoking ban and the imposition of student loans but of a fundamental shift in the way a new generation chooses to spend its entertainment budget.

After a week listening to favourite playlists on Spotify, when friends on Facebook and WhatsApp have looked out so many other attractive weekend adventures that will make far better shots on Instagram, another Friday night at Mystique just doesn’t do it. And, as for pulling, there’s always Tinder.

“Millennials favour experiences over stuff and nightclubs should benefit from that,” says Ramzi Yakob, senior strategist of the digital agency TH_NK. “But Millennials also realise that their time is the scarcest resource they have, so why would they spend their precious time revisiting the same experience every weekend?”

Digital takeover: 71% mags lose subscribers, online news overtakes TV

Online websites have now cemented their position as the nation’s No. 1 source of news, overtaking television and practically burying print publications six feet under as younger Americans embrace digital platforms.

The latest evidence comes from the circulation report on the nation’s top 125 magazines that found a six-month drop of 11.4 percent this year following a 14.2 percent drop in the last six months of 2014.

The biannual Alliance for Audited Media found that “total paid circulation” for 86 of 125 top magazines, or 71 percent, saw circulation drop, according to a new report in Media Life Magazine.

Glen Rock cop accused of sexting teen girls moves a step closer to release with ankle bracelet

A Glen Rock police detective charged with sending sexually explicit text messages to two teenage girls he was supervising as the borough’s juvenile officer, and exchanging nude photos with one of them, on Monday moved a step closer to being released on bail with an electronic ankle bracelet.

During a hearing in Hackensack, Superior Court Judge Susan Steele heard testimony from Jacqueline Gill, a mental health technician who conducts suicide risk assessments on inmates coming into the Bergen County Jail. The judge also heard from Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Daniel Marro, who discussed the county’s enhanced bail program with electronic monitoring.

Gill testified that Sgt. Eric Reamy was placed on suicide watch by a nurse when he entered the jail last week, based solely on “standard protocol,” due to the sexual nature of the charges and his high bail, which was set at $250,000.

Sides mixed on Ridgewood restaurant’s exterior paint color

The Ridgewood Planning Board’s meeting last Tuesday included a long discussion on a shade of paint at Tito’s Burritos restaurant.

The painting was done, without the town’s permission, accidentally, according to David Rutherford, attorney for Tito’s co-owner Mike Caldarella.

The co-owner of Tito’s had just finished overseeing the painting of a restaurant in another town, and decided to use the leftover paint in Ridgewood, not knowing he was violating any rules, according to Caldarella.

“The painter finished early, and my business partner sent him to Ridgewood, unbeknownst to myself, thinking he was doing something really good,” said Caldarella.

“Our biggest mistake was not going immediately to the village and saying, ‘This is what we did, how can we put it right?'” Caldarella said. “Instead, we decided that we should wait it out and see what happens.”

Mayor Paul Aronsohn, a member of the Planning Board, said it is “unfortunate that approvals were not sought and obtained prior to the work being done. As the applicant’s lawyer acknowledged, that was the wrong approach.”

Port Authority bus depot: the great gate reshuffle

After Labor Day, about a third of commuters rushing to the Port Authority Bus Terminal after work will have to get used to racing toward different bus gates.

The Port Authority is reassigning 40 bus routes, affecting six of the facility’s 21 bus carriers, as part of a plan to improve operational efficiency at the aged terminal, Port Authority administrators announced Monday.

That could lead to less crowding and easier commutes home, they said.

The gate reassignments will happen as the bistate agency consolidates its bus operations, making it easier for the facility’s largest carriers — NJ Transit and Coach USA — to operate, which hopefully will translate into a smoother commute, said Diannae Ehler, general manager of the Lincoln Tunnel and Port Authority Bus Terminal.

The facility has never seen permanent gate reassignments on this scale — “This is an extremely ambitious change to undertake,” Ehler said.

In a statement, NJ Transit Executive Director Veronique Hakim said the change will improve commutes by giving the carrier its own dedicated service area, shortening customers’ waiting time and streamlining the platform queuing process. Coach USA Executive Vice President Don Carmichael, also in a statement, said the realignment will allow Coach also to improve its efficiency.

The changes will affect about 30 percent of weekday passengers at the terminal for some routes of these carriers: NJ Transit, Lakeland and DeCamp, and Coach’s Community, Shortline and Rockland lines. Around 220,000 use the facility daily.

And then it comes in the form of the daily stuff, not getting emails returned, not getting phone calls returned. We need to change that. We will change that.“The voters wanted new ideas and new commitment to do government right. That’s what the three of us will deliver,” he said.

Readers say Lets Focus on Finding the Illegal Dumper and drop blaming the messenger game

So from what I am reading, some of you would blame the messenger for spreading the news, instead of blaming the one/s who committed the crime, enabled the crime, and covered up the crime. That makes no sense. Whoever it was that let the news media know, they are to be thanked. Otherwise yet another crime would be swept under the rug.

The truth will come out. Roberta will be unable to lock down everything on this one. Too many other agencies are involved. Neither NJDEP nor the Bergen County Mosquito Control Commission will hide any facts if requested via OPRA. And I’m sure that the RPD detective bureau would not want egg on their faces either.

And Yes, Roberta, you have everything to do with this. First of all, you are the MANAGER. And you are not managing. Second, you want to blame The BLOG for slowing down the investigation. Right, divert attention a la Halliby, – blame the blog when in fact you should have gotten right on top of this illegal dumping. Someone knows all about what happened, that someone should be identified and the matter should be settled. Instead you are tap dancing around instead of taking care of it. This should have been resolved one-two-three, instead you decided to try and keep it under wraps. Here’s an idea, why not send Bulldog Matthews out to interview employees? Pretty sure she will get the facts quickly. After all, she is a LEADS graduate, even though of course you never ever met her prior to hiring her.

Why would Village taxpayers be on the hook for anything here? Fine the contractor who illegally dumped the asphalt and concrete block at the site’s south end over a protective berm. Problem solved, Village exonerated. Where are the VM and the RPD on this, they get paid the big bucks to protect Villagers
