Ridgewood NJ, Pharmaceutical manufacturer Eli Lilly commenced early stage human trials of a monoclonal antibody therapeutic for COVID-19, marking the first trial of a treatment developed specifically for COVID-19. The Phase 1 clinical trial of LY-CoV555, an antibody treatment created from a blood sample of early US COVID-19 survivors, will test the drug’s safety in 32 patients who are currently hospitalized for COVID-19. Results of the trial are expected to be available later this month in order to determine if the treatment can continue to a larger trial testing efficacy and safety in non-hospitalized patients. Eli Lilly is already working to scale up production, with the aim of making the drug available as early as this fall, if it is demonstrated to be safe and effective. In addition to these trials, Eli Lilly plans to test other antibody therapies, and combinations of antibodies, as both treatment and prevention against SARS-CoV-2 infection

“The fact that it is in question should be enough to raise red flags. What have Cuomo or Murphy been successful at. They quarantined HEALTHY people. Our numbers are still high, it didn’t work! The power needs to be taken away from both of these men. People need to take care of themselves, I am a healthy American citizen who is being forced not to worship, not to work, to wear a mask, my freedom has been taken from me. by men who are not scientists, not a doctors, no medical expertise at all. Murphy is making decisions for me based on his beliefs. I am not okay with an unqualified person telling me what is right for me.”

COVID-19 scams targeting college students

bergen community college

Ridgewood NJ, Hey college students: even though you’re likely far from campus, scammers are still trying to find you.

Maybe you or your friends have gotten an email claiming to be from the “Financial Department” of your university. The email tells you to click on a link to get a message about your COVID-19 economic stimulus check — and it needs to be opened through a portal link requiring your university login. Don’t do it. It’s a phishing scam. If you click to “log in,” you could be giving your user name, password, or other personal information to scammers, while possibly downloading malware onto your device.

Reader says ,”I don’t understand why Fauci’s face needs to be displayed everywhere like this guy is some kind of a Messiah”

“I don’t understand why Fauci’s face needs to be displayed everywhere like this guy is some kind of a Messiah. What makes him such a genius? Don’t we have other people with experience who could do this job? It is Trump who picks people like Fauci and then through idiocies he speaks makes these people look good and more important than they really are. Fauci needs to disappear for the comment about masks a couple of months ago. That comment alone could be responsible for many infections and deaths. And the excuse he is using is just insulting. He lost that little respect I had for him.”

What New Jersey Residents Need to Do if COVID-19 Becomes a Seasonal Illness

Pandemic vs Epidemicin post

Introduction to the Global Pandemic

The new Coronavirus has created a global pandemic, making hundreds of thousands of people sick and taking a toll mercilessly. Believed to have originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan, this virus, medical experts say can return seasonally, just like the common flu.

With vaccine trials still underway, we do not precisely know when it will be ready for deployment. As scientists suggest, a vaccine might be ready in another 12-18 months and that is way too far! So, should the coronavirus return, countries should be ready to deal with it effectively.

Korean CDC reported individuals who have recovered from COVID19 can no longer infect others

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Soul Korea, The Korean Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Korean CDC) reported findings from a study of recovered COVID-19 patients who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 after their recovery. The study aimed to determine whether the positive test results after recovery—as long as 37 days after discharge from isolation—were artifacts of testing or due to reinfection or reactivation of the virus. The study concluded that the re-positive test results were not due to reinfection or reactivation, but rather, were a result of the PCR diagnostic tests detecting non-viable viral particles as the infection is slowly cleared from the body. These results indicate that individuals who have recovered from acute illness can no longer infect others. As such, the Korean CDC updated its guidance regarding the management of “re-positive cases,” including the removal of a mandatory 14-day self isolation period after being discharged from isolation and the requirement for subsequent PCR testing if symptoms present after a patient is discharged from isolation.
