Ridgewood NJ, the village council voted on Wednesday to approve a $51 million budget for the 2020 fiscal year which increases property taxes 2.2%.Village home owners will see an $85 tax increase for the average home assessed at $701,997, said Chief Financial Officer Bob Rooney.The budget vote was 4-1 with Councilman Jeffrey Voigt the sole vote against the budget.

Hackensack NJ, In light of the coronavirus pandemic, Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco just announced that the county schools will close and transition to online learning until further notice, starting tomorrow at 3pm. The county executive and officials had been discussing throughout the day the potential of closing the school districts. On Tuesday, Tedesco declared a state of emergency in the county, where there are 13 presumptive positive cases of coronavirus, which has resulted in 1 death.

Upper Saddle River NJ, A Bergen County man was arrested today for defrauding lenders and corporations of millions of dollars by impersonating two bank executives interested in funding syndicated loans for global companies, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.
Matthew O’Callaghan, 43, of Upper Saddle River, New Jersey, is charged by indictment with five counts of wire fraud and three counts of money laundering. He is scheduled to appear this afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge Edward S. Kiel in Newark federal court.
