Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Emergency Services has been on the front lines of the Covid-19 pandemic. Volunteers work every day to save lives while risking their own to do so. Not knowing what their day will be like, especially during this pandemic, our EMT’S serve the Village for long hours to keep everyone safe and healthy. “These volunteers are sacrificing and taking risks every day, now more than ever,” said Public Information Officer Bob Krane.

MIT Researchers Publish Design for $100 Ventilator

One of the most pressing shortages facing hospitals during the Covid-19 emergency is a lack of ventilators. These machines can keep patients breathing when they no longer can on their own, and they can cost around $30,000 each. Now, a rapidly assembled volunteer team of engineers, physicians, computer scientists, and others, centered at MIT, is working to implement a safe, inexpensive alternative for emergency use, which could be built quickly around the world.

Bergen County Reports Total of 1505 COVID-19 Cases as of Friday

Hackensack NJ, As of 6:00 PM Friday, March 27th, Bergen County has 1505 total presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 identified, impacting 67 municipalities.  We have sadly lost 25 of those residents and the County of Bergen mourns their loss and offers condolences to their loved ones.

CDC Issues Domestic Travel Advisory for New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut

Ridgewood NJ, the CDC urges residents of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut to refrain from non-essential domestic travel for 14 days effective immediately.  This Domestic Travel Advisory does not apply to employees of critical infrastructure industries, including but not limited to trucking, public health professionals, financial services, and food supply.  These employees of critical infrastructure, as defined by the Department of Homeland Security (https://www.cisa.gov/publication/guidance-essential-critical-infrastructure-workforceexternal icon) have a special responsibility to maintain normal work schedule.  The Governors of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut will have full discretion to implement this Domestic Travel Advisory.

MVC Agencies Will Remain Closed to the Public For Two More Weeks

Important Changes to COVID 19 Testing Centers at Bergen Community and PNC Bank Arts Center

Paramus NJ, In partnership with FEMA, New Jersey has opened two community-based testing sites for individuals who are experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness.

In order to be eligible for testing, individuals must be current New Jersey residents and experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness. Priority will be given to symptomatic individuals experiencing cough, fever (99.6F or above) and shortness of breath.

Saddle River Fire Brings Out Multi Borough Response

Saddle River NJ,on Tuesday March 24th at approximately 12:10 pm the Saddle River Fire Department was requested to a home within the borough for a report of a possible fire. Upon their arrival , Chief Salvatori arrived on scene and found smoke showing from the residence and requested a second alarm be transmitted. Engine 1131 arrived on scene and began advancing a hose into the structure to extinguish the fire. Ladder 1141 arrived on scene second , began laddering the building and assisting with the fire attack. The fire was under control shortly at approximately 12:30pm and Saddle River Fire Department  sends a big Thank you to all of the mutual aid who responded to the scene and covered the firehouse.

ABBOTT LAUNCHES MOLECULAR POINT-OF-CARE TEST TO DETECT NOVEL CORONAVIRUS IN AS LITTLE AS FIVE MINUTES

Chicago Ill, Abbott Laboratories is unveiling a coronavirus test that can tell if someone is infected in as little as five minutes, and is so small and portable it can be used in almost any health-care setting.

The medical-device maker plans to supply 50,000 tests a day starting April 1, said John Frels, vice president of research and development at Abbott Diagnostics. The molecular test looks for fragments of the coronavirus genome, which can quickly be detected when present at high levels. A thorough search to definitively rule out an infection can take up to 13 minutes, he said.
