NYS and Gates Foundation Will Convene Experts to Answer Key Questions About What Education Should Look Like in the Future

Albany NY, remote learning could replace the practice of a teacher standing in front of a classroom instructing students in the post-coronavirus area, Gov. Andrew Cuomo suggested Tuesday. Cuomo dropped the bombshell while announcing a partnership with the Gates Foundation to “reimagine” education in the post-COVID era.

“The last few months have been an incredibly stressful time full of change, but we have to learn and grow from this situation and make sure we build our systems back better than they were before,” Governor Cuomo said. “One of the areas we can really learn from is education because the old model of our education system where everyone sits in a classroom is not going to work in the new normal. When we do reopen our schools let’s reimagine them for the future, and to do that we are collaborating with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and exploring smart, innovative education alternatives using all the new technology we have at our disposal.”

Ridgewood School District Working on Virtual Alternatives High School Graduation and Promotion Ceremonies

Ridgewood NJ,  at the Monday night School Board meeting ,Dr. Fishbein began by stating that Governor Murphy has closed schools for students for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year and that students would finish the year via virtual home instruction. He expressed that no one wants to be back in the schools more than educators. Dr. Fishbein thanked the teachers for their hard work and commitment and expressed they have done an amazing job planning and executing virtual learning for our students. Acknowledging the challenges of remote instruction, he reiterated that educators would prefer to be in school with their students and to celebrate all of the end-of-year traditions that are being impacted by the current public health crisis.

NJEA commends decision to keep school buildings closed

Ridgewood NJ, NJEA released this statement following Gov. Murphy’s announcement today that school buildings will remain closed for the rest of the academic year.  Remote instruction will continue, and NJEA members will remain focused on meeting the needs of New Jersey’s students.

Governor Murphy Announces That Schools Will Remain Closed Through the End of the Academic Year

Ridgewood NJ, Citing the need to protect the health of New Jersey’s 1.6 million public and private school students as well as thousands of educators and support staff, Governor Phil Murphy today announced that statewide school closures will be extended through the end of the 2019-2020 academic year. Private schools with longer academic years will remain closed until at least June 30.

Ridgewood Board of Education has still not made provisions for taxpayers without computers to make comments during their virtual public meetings

Ridgewood NJ, I am extremely disappointed that the Ridgewood Board of Education (BOE) has still not made provisions for taxpayers without computers to make comments during their virtual public meetings.  As of today, the only way a taxpayer can make a public comment during a virtual BOE meeting is to submit it in writing via a hyperlink posted on the BOE’s website (the hyperlink is also embedded in the electronically circulated meeting notice).

Annual Ridgewood School Board Election – May 12

Registered voters in Ridgewood should have begun to receive their vote-by-mail ballots for the Annual School Election and the Municipal Election. Ballots must be postmarked on Election Day (May 12) and received by the County Board of Elections within 48 hours. Ballots received after 8 pm on May 14 will not be counted; therefore, it is important to return your ballot as soon as possible.
