Ridgewood NJ, the American Chemical Society’s Journal of Chemical Education recently published “Invention as a Complement to High School Chemistry,” which documents the step-by-step journey of the Ridgewood High School team that invented the Solar Aqua Tech (SAT) water bottle, a self-sanitizing and sustainable bottle designed to address two worldwide problems: satisfying the need for safe drinking water and reducing plastic waste. Co-authored by the entire SAT team and mentors, “the intent of the article was to provide SAT students with a permanent record of their extraordinary accomplishments and to share our invention education experience with other educators. Ridgewood NJ, the annual Friends of Music (FOM) Concert was live at George Washington Middle School once again! Faculty members joined local professionals to put on a fantastic performance including everything from musical theater to opera to jazz to rock. Winners of the FOM Third Annual Song-Writing Competition were announced and had their compositions performed by professional musicians. Competition entries may be of any length and style, and they can be scored for any combination of instruments and/or voices. Four professional musicians/computers judged the entries.

On Monday Dr. Gorman, Mr. Bisig, Ms. Poelstra presented the 2022-2023 Preliminary Budget supports curriculum revisions and instructional resources; professional development aligned to the strategic plan goals and innovative programming, and staff/resources to support the academic program. The budget addresses the responsible maintenance of our buildings and grounds and stays within the guidelines of the New Jersey Statutory State caps. The presentation was followed by an opportunity for comments from the public on the preliminary budget. The final budget will be presented at the May 9, 2022 Board of Education Meeting.

The Ridgewood High School stadium field was reopened on Sunday following the completion of the most recent cleanup, and Stevens field is expected to be operational by the end of this week.

Ridgewood NJ, Tech entrepreneur Dave Duffield (RHS ‘58), a pioneer who helped shape the software industry and founder of innovative companies including Workday, PeopleSoft and Ridgeline, is giving back to his high school alma mater in support of a substantial STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) Initiative. The Ridgewood High School Alumni Association (RHSAA) presented the Board of Education with a $635,000 gift from the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation at the regular public meeting on May 10, 2021. This grant, which is the result of the development efforts of the RHSAA, is the largest, single donation awarded to Ridgewood High School in the district’s history.
