Teaneck N J , We are very fortunate to have Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi as our guest speaker on March 21, Tuesday. Assemblywoman Schepisi has been an advocate for towns deciding what happens in their own town….wouldn’t you think that is the right way forum for these decisions to be made?
Don’t think for a moment this isn’t going to affect your town or any town in NJ for that matter….we brought this issue to your attention last year and now it’s rearing it’s ugly head in full force on the state level.
In a decision that could reshape hundreds of communities, the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled in January that municipalities must allow the development of affordable housing for poor and middle-class families whose needs were ignored for more than 16 years.
A recent article in NorthJersey.com highlighted Affordable Housing affecting the towns in Bergen County.
“Two Pascack Valley towns have thrown their support behind legislation that aims to bring affordable-housing litigation in the state to a screeching halt and pressure the state Legislature to take action on the issue. The governing bodies in Emerson and Woodcliff Lake approved resolutions last week backing the bills, which were introduced by Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi.
One bill – A4666 – urges a freeze on all affordable-housing litigation through the end of the year. A companion bill – A4667 – calls for establishing a bipartisan Affordable Housing Obligation Study Commission that would be composed of professionals and elected officials to determine each town’s affordable-housing obligations.
State Sen. Gerald Cardinale, R-Demarest, has sponsored similar legislation in the Senate.
Towns have been submitting their housing plans to state judges for approval, after the state Supreme Court ordered them to bypass the Council on Affordable Housing, which has been inactive for years because of bureaucratic dysfunction.
Schepisi said the Legislature should be dealing with the issue, not the courts. “There are a host of out-of-the-box ideas and thinking that we as legislators should be exploring, and we’re not,” Schepisi said, adding: “We need to also question if the obligation should rest with the state rather than each municipality.”

HACKENSACK — There was no decision Wednesday in a case before a Superior Court judge involving a petition by Teaneck Township to bar a resident from filing public records requests.
But Judge Robert P. Contillo expressed some skepticism with Teaneck’s argument that Elie Jones, a 44-year-old lifelong unemployed township resident, harassed and bullied the township staff as he filed more than 300 records requests since November under the state’s Open Public Records Act, or OPRA.
Hackensack NJ, Ridgewood teachers joined the “Bergen County Unity March and Rally” on Sunday, February 12th, at the Bergen County Courthouse in Hackensack . It was promoted by the NJEA , REA and its bought and paid for Democrat allies and claimed,”as we come together to celebrate and reaffirm our American values of freedom, diversity, and inclusively, and to push back against hateful, divisive rhetoric. With one voice, we will send a clear message to those around the country who seek to drive us apart: We will not be divided, and we will not be silenced.”
Very high-minded words but in reality, the rally was another attempt by teachers unions to suppress school choice and charter schools. There is nothing high-minded about repressing a child’s education and forcing kids into failed schools.
The rally commenced in the snow at 2:00 PM at the municipal parking lot near Foschini Park before marching to the Courthouse where we will hold our rally.

TEANECK, N.J. – Transit police say they’ve arrested a New Jersey man who avoided paying tolls nearly 900 times and owes more than $56,000 in unpaid tolls and fees.
Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police say an officer stopped Alesandel Rodriguez’s car Friday morning after it failed to post a payment in an EZ-Pass lane on the George Washington Bridge.
Authorities say the car was missing front and rear license plates, and a temporary New York tag inside the vehicle had expired.

NJTPC is proud to have as our guest speaker, Israel Vicente.
Israel is a technology entrepreneur and founder of GCS, a successful global IT consulting firm based in New Jersey, where he lives. In his role as CEO of GCS, Israel has had the opportunity to speak to many people throughout the U.S. and overseas, giving a firsthand perspective of their experiences, successes, and hardships.
In 2014, he published two nonfiction books, The Courage to Be Different and Divergent Lives. The lead-up to the 2016 presidential contest served as inspiration for his third book………..
“For the People – Time to Take Our Country Back!”
America is still the greatest country in the world, although plagued with many challenges that have been ignored or exacerbated by our leaders. The American people are fed up, tired, and angry. The most recent Presidential election is proof that people are driving towards taking our country back from the cliff from which it is now perched.
With the national debt hovering above $19 trillion and rising; the middle class still decimated by the Great Recession that followed the financial crisis of 2008; millions of Americans either unemployed or severely underemployed as more U.S. companies replace American workers with lower wage staff by either relocating their businesses overseas or employing illegal immigrants and foreigners with worker visas here at home; and the constant fear of terrorism at home and abroad – all while seeing President Obama and Former Secretary Hillary Clinton work tirelessly to diminish American exceptionalism. America looks towards new leadership that will reset the direction of the country before the U.S. economy fully collapses, Iran secures a nuclear weapon, North Korea succeeds in launching one, and a resurgent Russia further expands its dominance in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
For the People gives an American citizen’s voice to the people’s dissatisfaction with how our leaders in Washington have managed, or, more accurately, mismanaged the people’s affairs. Americans are exhausted with the constant bickering between Congress and the Executive branch of our government that has resulted in years of stagnation. The turmoil has caused far too many citizens to lament the demise of the American dream of prosperity and upward mobility.
This book is a wakeup call to all Americans to protect and secure the future of the United States of America.
Come and hear Israel’s perspective and treat a friend to a great night out!

TEANECK, N. J.—The group gathered around a conference table at Holy Name Medical Center and flipped through binders until they found the music for Chloe Fernandez’s favorite song. Taking deep breaths, they raised their harmonicas to their lips and blew the first notes of Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy.”
Chloe, 9 years old, of Ridgewood, N.J., is one of the youngest participants in the hospital’s “Harmonicare” weekly classes. The year-old program provides free harmonica instruction to people suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, and other lung ailments.
“We don’t judge when somebody messes up,” said Chloe. “It’s supportive.”

Jewish Constituents on The Record’s Hateful Editorial: What They’re Saying
Hackensack NJ, In response to The Record’s hateful editorial published this morning comparing Garrett for Congress Campaign Manager Sarah Neibart to a Nazi, Jewish constituents across New Jersey are speaking out.
Michael Celler, Former Jewish Liaison, Office of the Governor, Livingston, NJ: “I didn’t think anything could be more offensive than the anti-semitic flier circulated about Josh Gottheimer, but Alfred Doblin managed to prove me wrong. I was sickened when I read his comparison of a young Jewish woman to a Goebbels-esque Nazi, it is the most hateful thing Doblin could have said about a Jewish person. As the grandson of four holocaust survivors, I’m appalled by his words, and he should immediately apologize for his disgusting comparison. There is enough anti-semitism in the world, we don’t need more of it perpetuated by Editorial Writers who don’t have a clue.”
Yitz Stern, Teaneck, NJ: “While I have no interest in debating the pros and cons of either candidate in the 5th Congressional District racetomorrow, I do find it appalling that the Record’s Editorial Page Editor chose to make a shameful comparison between how the Nazis spoke back when they were rearing their ugly head and what a young Jewish woman said when she rejected a hateful and unattributed anti-Semitic flyer that was circulating. I have the privilege of working on Holocaust education with K-12 educators throughout the State. I can assure you that Mr. Doblin’s comments are not the type of message we want to disseminate to our children. Let us remember that when we commemorate Kristallnacht the day after Election Day.”
Rabbi Steven Pruzansky, Teaneck, NJ: “The accusation directed at Sarah Neibart by Alfred Doblin comparing her to Nazism is despicable and beyond the pale of public discourse, and it should be immediately repudiated.”
Councilman Mark J. Schwartz, Teaneck, NJ: “As a Bergen county resident, a local Teaneck councilman, and most importantly as a Jew, I find it outrageous that The Record would publish such a nasty and defamatory article comparing Ms. Neibart to murderers and war criminals. When I heard that The Record was bought by a national company, I was hopeful, and still am, that perhaps the slanting would straighten up – and we, as Bergen county residents, would receive honest and impartial reporting that we deserve. It appears though that The Record models themselves after the New York Times, and not the Wall Street Journal. I am demanding that Alfred Doblin apologize to Ms. Neibart, and encourage him to explain why he chose to submit this article mere hours before the polls open on Election Day.”
Mark S. Levenson, West Orange, NJ: “I was appalled and disgusted by Alfred Doblin’s editorial in today’s Record that compared Sarah Neibart’s statement to “exactly what the Nazis would say.” Doblin’s point could well have been made without trying to drag a person I know (and respect) through the mud with an out-of-bounds outrageous character assault. The race for the fifth Congressional District has not distinguished itself for its civility, but to lay the blame on one side–the side Doblin vehemently disagrees with– is wrong. Doblin is entitled to trumpet his political views and preferences, but gratuitously throwing “Nazi” barbs at a granddaughter whose family fled Nazi-occupied Europe is beyond the pale. Trying to justify this by stating that his (Doblin) family also fled Nazi-occupied Europe does not undo the damage done. An apology is owed to Sarah Neibart, and in the same space as was offered up the hurtful insult.”
Ms. Neibart penned an open letter to The Record editor Alfred Doblin regarding his editorial, which can be read below:
Alfred,
I think there’s no doubt we can all agree that this election season has crossed the Rubicon in terms of political rhetoric. But Monday, November 7, 2016 completely changed my world. That’s the day The Bergen Record published my name and called me a Nazi for questioning whether Democratic campaign operatives were involved in a disgusting political stunt. The only reason you’ve attacked me is because I’m a female Republican supporting Congressman Scott Garrett, a man that you’ve chronically made your target of editorial ire.
As a professional political operative, I’ve been astounded at the political tactics of Josh Gottheimer’s campaign throughout this race. Their name-calling began early, as they manipulated the Congressman’s policy stances to paint him as a bad person. It’s not the first time I’ve seen this, as the Left often assumes that if Republicans were smarter or better people, we’d be Democrats, but this was an operation unlike any other. They started by using words like “bigot,” “extremist,” and “racist.” They absurdly alleged that my candidate supports domestic terrorism. They photoshopped a government document in order to allege the Congressman was under investigation for bribery. They’ve even claimed he hates puppies and kittens.
Today, your editorial adopts a tactic straight out of the playbook of these Democrat operatives – just as they protested businesses and people supporting Scott Garrett in order to bully them out of their political positions, you have called me the worst name imaginable, just because of my work for him.
Last week, things reached an unbelievable new low. A flyer was circulated depicting our challenger, Josh Gottheimer, as the devil. We first found out through a media inquiry, and when I saw the image, I felt a sickness in my stomach. This disgusting, hateful flyer enraged me and is not something our campaign would ever, ever consider distributing or condoning. The majority of our campaign staffers are Jewish, as am I. These flyers had been reportedly distributed everywhere – on cars, in train stations, on trees, and in elementary schools. School children had seen this horrific image.
One thing was overwhelmingly clear to me. The distribution of this flyer – though it looked crudely made – seemed like it came from a pretty sophisticated operation. It just didn’t seem feasible that it came from one unhinged lunatic supporter of our campaign. And it was suspicious to me that the Gottheimer campaign “found” these flyers first and alerted the media – and that none of our supporters throughout the community had seen them, and no one in the media had independently seen them before Gottheimer’s press release.
In your editorial this morning, you published my name and my statement suggesting that Gottheimer’s campaign had distributed these flyers. And then you said, “This is — whether Neibart was aware or not — exactly what the Nazis would say.”
You don’t know me, Alfred, but let me tell you about a few things of which I’m “aware.”
I’m “aware” of the persecution that Jews have faced all over the world, simply because of our faith. I’ve stood in a gas chamber in Poland and seen the nail marks down the wall. I’m “aware” of how people are systematically murdered for their heritage or their beliefs. I lived in Egypt under the oppressive government of the Muslim Brotherhood. I’ve been to Rwanda and seen the aftermath of those atrocities. We must be vigilant against hatred, but that conversation is completely separate from whether or not I believe Josh Gottheimer’s campaign would be so insidious as to fake an anti-Semitic flyer and then put out a press release feigning moral outrage.
My statement calling for an investigation into the origins of this flyer didn’t come from any ignorance about the history of my own heritage, it came from my experience as a political operative and my knowledge of Josh Gottheimer’s campaign. Democrats and liberal special interests across this country have taken every vote Congressman Garrett has ever made – whether it’s about protecting the First Amendment or reining in out-of-control spending – and manipulated them to expand the false narrative of the Congressman being hateful and out of touch with the Fifth District, despite repeatedly being elected as their Congressman. Why is it unreasonable for me to assume that a flyer no one in our network knew about was from the Gottheimer campaign? I believe that the Gottheimer campaign thinks that their current charges of bigotry and racism aren’t sinking in, and they wanted to do something to make sure they win Bergen County. You have stayed silent as Gottheimer’s campaign attacked Congressman Garrett’s faith, and yet you use my questions about Democrat campaign tactics as a weapon against me. This demonstrates that not only do you have a political agenda aimed squarely against Congressman Garrett, you are an intolerant man who refuses to recognize that other people are entitled to their own political ideologies without being labeled as racists, bigots or terrorists.
Alfred, you’ve lost the moral high ground to denounce this cycle’s political rhetoric, and you no longer get to call anyone else a bully, as you’ve smugly taken pleasure in doing over the past two years. This election will be over tomorrow, but you have to live with the fact that you cheapened the suffering of both of our families at the hands of cruel men committing unspeakable atrocities – all to make a political point.
Ridgewood NJ, Third party sources were shocked to discover that Josh Gottheimer has falsified Federal government documents in a campaign ad against Scott Garrett, and have since pulled Gottheimer’s ad.
Shockingly, Gottheimer admitted his deceit to the Star Ledger: “An official with the Gottheimer campaign confirmed that it had produced the ad and manipulated the image.”
Falsifying government documents is a federal crime under 18 U.S. Code § 912.
After cease and desist letters were sent to TV stations and advertising companies, Gottheimer’s campaign pulled the billboards advertising Gottheimer’s fraudulent claims from two locations in New Jersey.
What more admittance of guilt do we need? Gottheimer has been caught red-handed and must apologize to the voters in New Jersey’s Fifth District.
As Democrat desperation intensifies Gottheimer Campaign goes off the rails plays anti-Semite card against Garrett in a purely gutter politic move.
Garrett for Congress Campaign Manager Sarah Neibart issued the following statement regarding an anti-Semitic flyer that is allegedly circulating in the Fifth District:
“My family fled Nazi-occupied Europe to escape persecution because of their Jewish heritage. I find this flyer to be disgusting, and I would never authorize such a deplorable document to be produced by our campaign or any affiliated group. I would also call on the media to get an honest answer from the Gottheimer campaign as to whether this is a political ploy manufactured by them to fabricate a hate crime. We think that these documents should be turned over to the authorities to see if their origin can be determined.”
Teaneck Councilman, Jewish Link Co-Founder and prominent Garrett for Congress supporter Mark Schwartz issued the following statement regarding an anti-Semitic flyer that is allegedly circulating in the Fifth District:
“I know Scott Garrett – he is a good man who has run his campaign with integrity, despite being unfairly targeted by mudslingers on all sides. He is one of the strongest supporters of the State of Israel we have in Congress and has been a loyal friend of the Jewish people. I am appalled by the tenor of the campaign being run by his opponent, and I know Scott Garrett had absolutely nothing to do with this disgusting flyer.”
Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company, a nonprofit performing ensemble based in Ridgewood, New Jersey, has presented full productions of the works of Gilbert and Sullivan every fall and spring since its founding in 1937 by Kay and Jack Edson. For over 75 years, we have delighted audiences with the timeless jollity of The Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado, and H.M.S. Pinafore. As one of the oldest continuing musical theatre groups in the country, we also mount comic operas by Gilbert & Sullivan that are seldom seen elsewhere: Iolanthe, The Yeomen of the Guard, The Gondoliers, The Sorcerer, and several others.
We give full performances in Ridgewood, plus we perform elsewhere in Northern and Central Jersey (Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Ocean counties), Rockland County, New York City, and Connecticut. In addition, we take pride in making opera more accessible to the community by performing several free shows and staged concerts a year at facilities that cater to senior residents, patients, and veterans. We have also donated a series of musical scores, recordings, and books on Gilbert and Sullivan to the Ridgewood Public Library.
Although we are considered a community theatre group, our performers are given a more professional experience due to having a two-month performing schedule and having to learn heavy amounts of vocally challenging repertoire found in virtually all G&S comic operas. Our company members consist of both highly trained music professionals and serious amateurs.
Our talented workers (singers, orchestra, scenery and costume designers, etc.) have made it possible to give productions of professional quality. Young and old G&S fans have thanked us for helping keep alive the great musical entertainment of Gilbert and Sullivan.
Ridgewood Gilbert and Sullivan is proud to perform the musical production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Sorcerer (not to be mistaken with Walt Disney’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice). This musical tells the timeless story of a man who refuses to believe that men and women should marry only those of the same social class. He hires a sorcerer to make each man in the village fall in love with the first eligible woman he sees —and chaos ensues.https://www.newjerseystage.com/articles/getarticle.php?titlelink=ridgewood-gilbert-and-sullivan-presents-the-sorcerer

Ridgewood NJ, Garrett for Congress today announced an endorsement from Teaneck Democratic Councilman Mark Schwartz.
“As a long serving Teaneck Councilman, and as an active resident of the 5th District, I’ve gotten to know many great and honest leaders,” said Schwartz. “One thing I’m proud of is being unafraid to admit when a great leader belongs to the opposite party. As a Democrat, Congressman Garrett and I don’t agree on every issue, but we do agree on two important issues for me and my community. Scott has never voted to raise taxes on our families – period. He is also one of the best friends Israel has in all of Congress, and we should be honored to give him our votes and send him back for another term. It’s imperative that Scott be able to continue his work, and I’m honored to put Teaneck ahead of party and reach across the aisle to give him my support.”
Schwartz’s support highlights Garrett’s record as an advocate for the State of Israel.
“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of Councilman Mark Schwartz,” said Garrett. “Mark is a tireless advocate of the people of Teaneck and the 5th district. On issues close to home, there can be no compromise. Mark and I agree that we can never raise taxes on our families, and that we can never compromise the security of the United States and Israel.”
Rep. Garrett has sponsored and cosponsored numerous pieces of legislation supporting Israel’s right to defend its sovereignty, recognizing Jerusalem as the undivided capital of Israel, and condemning Palestinian rocket attacks on Israeli civilians. He introduced the Jerusalem Embassy Recognition Act, and cosponsored the Hezbollah International Financing Prevention Act. As an outspoken member of the Iran Sanctions Conference Committee, he called for full implementation of strong sanctions against the Iranian regime, and has subsequently opposed President Obama’s Iran nuclear arms deal.
“Do you know how HUD (US Dept of Housings and Urban Development) entices towns to take money and then …………..HUD takes over your rights with the Mayor and Council – you nor your Council have say in the decisions of the town in which you live and pay taxes.”
Teaneck NJ, Dr. Al Frech has been following HUD for the last eight years and is making a difference in Ringwood and Wayne by alerting citizens and town councils on the dangers of HUD grants.
Perhaps your town has taken CDBG grants in the past. Everything changed in July 2015 with the affirmative fair housing. They added 377 new pages. In one section they say they won’t change your zoning, but if your zoning happens to conflict with the Fair Housing Act, then that is of concern. They never really spell out for you what the Fair Housing Act now happens to control. Once you sign on the line, you sign a contract that you will do whatever the plan turns out to be for that Fair Housing Assessment.
The wording in the AFFH ruling is accurate, but somewhat deceptive. Actually, HUD wants nothing to do with a community’s zoning laws. However, to affirmatively further fair housing, grantees may be required to ignore or change them themselves. In other words, HUD will CONTROL.
The rule does not impose any land use decisions or zoning laws on any local government. However a paragraph later says, but we will assist recipients to adjust their land use and zoning laws to meet their legal obligation to Affirmative Fair Housing.
You can’t afford to be in the dark – your town, your property value and your community could be in the hands of others – not you nor your town council!
American Legion Hall, 650 American Legion Drive, Teaneck, NJ
1) Historicall (pre-07) people still hung around because home prices were going up. 2% a year in taxes does not matter as long as your house’s value is going by by 6-7% a year. Home prices are at best flat now, if not declining. The 2.5% and ever growing property tax is coming out of people’s pockets now.
2) Wall St (finance generally) was on a 30 year tear till 2007. That is the NYC area’s main driver. Accordingly, the riches drifted to places like Ridgewood. That gig is OVER. I work in the industry – trust me. That gig is done. People are lucky to hang on to their jobs, forget compensation. The replacement tech folks want to live in ‘city-like’ environments. Condo prices in NYC and surrounding towns have gone up at double-digit rates per year for 4-5 years running now. Home prices are at best flat in Ridgewood.
3) Schools are not a function of teachers, they are a function of students. Being a top school district attracts parents who are interested in education, and that is a self reinforcing dynamic. The reverse is also true – once you drop out of the top rankings, you stop attracting top students. Ridgewood is no longer a ‘top school district’ compared to places like Teaneck, Short Hills, Baskin Ridge etc.
4) Ridgewood taxes are higher (on a % of property market value basis) than even Short Hills, let alone neighborhood Bergen County towns, all with similarly rated schools. And despite paying higher taxes than everywhere else, and more than ever paid in Ridgewood’s history, you have greedy teachers striking and looking for various ways to make life difficult for students as payback. And this will only get worse once Obamacare taxes kick in and the teachers force taxpayers to pick up the 40% excise tax tab on their platinum insurance plans.
So to summarize,
1) The main supporting industry is in sharp decline
2) Home prices are no longer increasing
3) Taxes are at national highs and only likely to increase further
4) School district ranking is falling and will get worse
This combination has not existed so far. In fact, the reverse did. That was history. This is reality.
I curse the day I bought a house in the place. My kids are still too young so I am likely stuck, and am going to live through the decline. Assuming, of course, my industry even has a place for me till then.
Ridgewood NJ, In April Ridgewood joined over two dozen other municipalities, including Teaneck, Englewood, Wayne, Paterson, Pequannock and North Bergen challenging the tax exempt status of their local hospital
Like Ridgewood many of these municipalities are looking for new sources of cash to lower their high property taxes, local officials have now filed tax appeals challenging the tax-exempt status of 35 nonprofit hospitals according to NJ Advance Media for NJ.com .
The litigation continues to gain momentum in response to last year’s precedent-setting tax court ruling and settlement which required Morristown Medical Center to pay Morristown $15.5 million in lieu of property taxes. The judge in that case found the hospital operated like a for-profit entity and should share the cost of public safety and other municipal services.
While the Morristown case took 5 years to see it through ,so far two of the 35 cases have been settled already, resulting in additional revenue for the city of Elizabeth and Edison Township.
The settlements have already paid off for local taxpayers. The property tax rate has declined in Morristown by 2 cents this year, as a direct result of the “historic” agreement reached with Morristown Medical Center’s parent company, Atlantic Health Systems.
Ridgewood has quietly pursued Valley Hospital on the same grounds .It has been often repeated that Valley’s current 15 1/2-acre main campus would owe about $4.5 million in taxes if it were fully assessed. That is before the major increase in size by the proposed renovation double its size .
The N.J. Hospital Association says the tax-exempt status of these hospitals have been challenged:
