Ridgewood NJ, Patrolman Andrew Van Dyke was sworn on on July 14th 2021 by Mayor Susan Knudsen during the Village council meeting while his mother Patricia and sister Victoria held the Bible. Officer Van Dyke graduated the Bergen County Police Academy in June and is currently in the police departments field training program.

Drug Overdose Deaths Have Increase Nearly 30% Over 2019

Ridgewood NJ, According to provisional data released by the US CDC this week, more than 93,000 people died of a drug overdose in 2020, a nearly 30% increase over the number of overdose deaths in 2019. This estimate is the highest number of overdose deaths ever recorded and the largest percent increase since 1999. Public health agencies continue to fight the opioid epidemic, declared a public health emergency by the US government in 2017, but health departments were overwhelmed by the demands put on them during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, non-COVID-19 programs suffered.

An Air Quality Action Day means that Ground Level Ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards.

Large Tree Branch Hits Ridgewood Home Causing Heavy Damage

Ridgewood NJ, The roof and front façade of a single family home located in the 300 block of Wastena Terrace, Ridgewood sustained heavy damage when a large tree limb fell late Thursday morning, 07/15. No injuries were reported by the occupants, nor were any bystanders injured. A team of Ridgewood firefighters worked to spread a plastic cover over the roof to prevent possible water damage. Employees of PSE&G’s Electric Division and the Village of Ridgewood’s Shade Tree and Building Departments were also on the scene. A Ridgewood Police Patrol Officer provided traffic control and initiated a property damage report.
