UPDATE : Man Killed Falling from a Tree in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, a tragic work related accident claimed the life of a tree service employee who was working at a home near the intersection of Carlton Terrace and Waiku Road, Ridgewood on Thursday morning, 06/04. The victim reportedly fell from a tree, and then had a limb land on top of him while he was on the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic team from The Valley Hospital. Multiple news media reports identified the victim as a 35-year old male from Bergenfield. Personnel from Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Identification, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office also responded to the incident. The victim’s co-workers stood by in shock and disbelief as they watched authorities remove the deceased employee’s body from the scene. The accident’s cause has not yet been made public. No information was made available as to whether OSHA was notified of the sorrowful incident.

Over 700 Ballots Rejected in connection with the May 12, 2020 Board of Education, Board of Education Budget, and Village Council General Election

Ridgewood NJ, In response to an Open Public Records Act request I recently submitted to the Bergen County Clerk’s Office, I have just received a list containing the last name, first name, middle initial, and street address for every Ridgewood voter whose mail in ballot was REJECTED in connection with the May 12, 2020 Board of Education, Board of Education Budget, and Village Council General Election.

The list contains the names of 710 voters. That is, 710 of the ballots submitted for the aforementioned election were rejected/not counted. The reasons for rejection are not specified in the document I received. However, many appear to have been received after the specified cut off date of Thursday, May 14, 2020.If my calculations are correct, approximately 15% of the total ballots submitted were rejected/not counted. Wow! That’s alarming, to say the least. I do not know whether the County Clerk’s Office has a notification process in place for rejected ballots. Thus, some of these voters may not know that their ballot was rejected.

Ridgewood NJ, just in time for outdoor dining , for over a week a homeless man has been terrorizing Ridgewood’s Central Business district , eating out of the garbage cans during the day and also harassing women . Witnesses say he has been using the street as a bathroom and often sleeps with metal pipe .

Ridgewood NJ, according to sources in the Village a tree service worker fell to his death on Thursday in Ridgewood. The gentleman worked for Arrow Tree Service located in Old Tappan  and fell from a tree at a Waiku Road home off Carlton Terrace at around 8:40 a.m.

Ridgewood Black Lives Matter Unity Event

Ridgewood NJ,  a Black Lives Matter event was held in Ridgewood on June 3rd from 11am- 2pm just outside the Police Department on Veterans Field . The invite stated , “We will peacefully gather on Veterans Field, on the corner of Maple Street and Linwood Ave outside the Police Department. We join in unity to address racial inequality and demand change in a flawed system. We stand for all those who have lost their lives due to police brutality and those who have been directly impacted by racial inequality. This is not an isolated incident, we are in a national crisis and we must join together and unite. Let us the people take the power back, let us show unity and peace. No more division… no more hate. We must be the change……. Let your voices be heard. Please wear a mask and practice social distancing while we gather.”

Ridgewood Police Chief Jackie Luthcke’s speech was very moving and uplifting. The crowd was quiet & respectful and well attended.

Ridgewood Nj, according to resident Boyd Loving in a Facebook post , “Security Sweep: A walk-by to visually inspect the area to identify unattended packages, briefcases, luggage, unauthorized persons, or other security breaches and determine that all public areas are secure. A procedure commonly completed prior to announced/scheduled gatherings of large groups (events). Examples: concerts, demonstrations, memorial services, parades, protests, speeches. Canines trained in the detection of explosive materials/incendiary devices and/or loaded firearms are routinely deployed.”

Blackout Tuesday is an initiative to go silent on social media, reflect on recent events, and stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.
