Ridgewood NJ, More than one half dozen uniformed and plain clothes Ridgewood Police Department officers were summoned to quell a disturbance at the Woodlea Group Home, 138 Prospect Street, Ridgewood late Tuesday afternoon, 06/07. One juvenile female was transported under police guard to Bergen Regional Medical Center for psychiatric evaluation after the situation was brought under control. Ridgewood EMS and Ridgewood FD first responders were dispatched to the location in connection with an individual who reportedly suffered human bite wounds during the disturbance. No victims were observed being transported from the scene by ambulance. Woodlea is a home for foster juvenile females operated by the Children’s Aid and Family Services organization of Paramus.
Ridgewood water is not funded by taxes, it’s funded entirely by ratepayers (the water bill). It’s unfortunate but water is getting more expensive — more stringent water quality standards mean more treatment, which drives rates up. Also, in general, east coast water utilities are having to replace a lot of aging infrastructure which is nearing the end of its lifespan.
Ridgewood’s problem is that there is not enough storage for the comparatively high demands of summertime, when lots of people use automatic sprinklers to water their lawns every night. It’s a somewhat wasteful use of water, especially in the face of the droughts we tend to have in North Jersey, and I don’t mind dealing with some water restrictions to rein that in.
I remember that some years ago, Ridgewood did try to increase the capacity of one of its tanks ever so slightly (up on Valley View near Crest Rd) but the neighbors would have none of it.
United Water has had these same demand issues in places like Franklin Lakes where the water use has been a lot higher in the summer than in the winter because of lawn watering, pools, etc. They did take action and construct a large new storage tank on Shadow Ridge Rd, but they will turn around and use this large expense as a justification to raise water rates (Utilities both public and private are bound to justify their water rates). So not only will Franklin Lakes be consuming more water, they will pay more per gallon ($$$).
I agree that Ridgewood Water may not be as professional or “on top of things” as a larger organization. However, I wouldn’t like to see Ridgewood Water absorbed into a large, private water company. We would lose our nice-tasting well water (my opinion), control over our water rates, and the other benefits of having a small, local, public water utility
Ridgewood NJ, Jane Milanos, owner of Milridge Realty LCC, a major property owner within the RIdgewood Central Business District, gave $2,000 to the Richard Brooks for Council campaign according to records filed with the NJ Election Law Enforcement Commission.
Milridge Realty is headquartered at 35 Park Street, Tenafly, NJ, the same address as was reported on the below noted document.

The referendum petition which over 1200 Ridgewood residents signed and submitted under Home Rule to the village clerk, called for a referendum question in November election with the following text:

“Shall Ordinance No. 3521 authorizing the Council of the Village of Ridgewood to issue $11,500,000 bonds or notes to finance the cost of constructing the Hudson Street Parking Deck, currently contemplated as a 4 story, 5 level Parking Deck, be ratified?”

Our Mayor and current council majority are forcing this election before they leave, and they changed the referendum question to:

Summary: Over 1200 Ridgewood residents submitted a petition, asking for a question in November election for 11.5M bond for a 5 level garage. The Mayor and his team fast tracked that election and removed the text about 5th level from the question.

1.Mayor Aronsohn is trying to ignore May 10th election and people’s will. If this question is voted “yes” on June 21, he will award a 5 level garage contract in his last 9 days. NO BIDDING has been done for this 11.5 Million$ contract and the details are only known to Gwenn / Paul / Roberta / Albert (I.e. Parking committee). The new council elects and Susan and Mike will have to work with this new contractor for project completion, while they are NOT being part of the contractor selection process or any other design / engineering discussions. Mayor Aronshon and his team will not be here to see through this project to it’s completion – and won’t have any accountability. Why are they hiding the contractor selection process from other council members?

2. Mayor Aronshon is again pulling the “it’s only financing question” card, which he did in November election. He is writing to residents saying “Basically, do you support financing and building a parking deck at Hudson Street that could cost up to $11.5 million.”. He is hiding the fact that this special election was called for because of the size and design of the garage. The residents united to stop the financing because of the size of the garage.

Please vote ‘NO’ on June 21st, and let the new council pick a contractor for Hudson Street Garage after July 1st. So they can see through the project to it’s completion and can be held accountable for picking the right contractor.

Ridgewood NJ, Summer Water Restriction season once again and the Ridgewood blog just has to ask ; are we the only one who wonders what it is going to take to fix this thing and get the Ridgewood water system up to speed. Sorry folks but summer water restrictions every single summer is too much 3rd world for the kind of taxes Ridgewood taxpayers are paying .
This not a critique of Ridgewood water but an attempt to get the ball rolling on a discussion which has for too long been swept under the rug . Do residents really want to live with perpetual water restrictions, law suits and assorted water quality issues.

No irrigation shall be allowed on Mondays, Thursdays, or Fridays except for the use of a hand held hose. Irrigation using a hand held hose shall be allowed at any time.
Stage III (Pending/Critical) – Mandatory restriction of irrigation to the use of a hand held hose on Tuesdays and Saturdays for properties with odd-numbered addresses and Wednesdays and Sundays for properties with even-numbered addresses. No irrigation of any kind shall be allowed on Mondays, Thursdays, or Fridays.
Stage IV (Critical) – Irrigation is prohibited at any time. Exceptions for irrigation using a hand held hose may be allowed under conditions prescribed by the Village Manager of the Village of Ridgewood.
If not for our grassroots involvement, a decade of massive demolition and construction would likely be underway today at Valley Hospital, doubling in size in a location that is already over-burdened.

1) Finish our legal work.The flawed Master Plan Amendment of 2010 is still on the books of Ridgewood. The current or any future council could allow Valley to build to the 1.2 million square foot limits approved compared to the current building approximating 550,000 square feet. While expensive, this legal action is essential to putting a final halt to Valley’s determined drive to expand in the Village.
2) Continue public advocacy before Ridgewood’s Village Council and Land-Use Boards.The Valley Corporation has seemingly infinite resources and connections to get their way. It is imperative that we continue our grass-roots efforts to counter their efforts to put an incompatible building in our midst.
While there is much corporate and personal money being spent in support of the Valley aspirations, all the opposition is funded by our hard-earned donations.

The group does not push that hard for money, but we cannot let them pay for this themselves. Please consider giving any amount–small is a lot better than zero. Let’s dig deep so that Valley doesn’t! Once is not enough–this has been going on for nearly a decade and is expen$$$$ive.
We need to support the BOE and the Students. Everyone’s kids has suffered due to these teachers union this year. Class trips and after school programs are suffering. The private sectors healthcare is exploding also with no relief for us. Copays of $45, for each visit, teachers and all civil servants all need to pay their fare share and understand the pain and suffering that we are all paying more for. We are not getting raises to cover these increases nor should they. While we’re talking on this subject let’s move all to 401K plans. The system can’t handle all the retirees benefits. We will collapse soon, work 25 years then collect retirement for 35 years? Use them or lose them…no more taking $100,000s of dollars in unused sick time and vacation accrued, this is absurd. I support reasonable demands and expect our BOE professionals not to cave on unrealistic demands. Don’t get me wrong I do support teachers but can’t wait for those signs to go away!
Anti-Development? What Kool-Aid are you drinking. If you changed your thought properly to Over-Development, then you’d be 100% correct. Develop reasonable housing at 18-24 units, Valley can renew in Ridgewood with minor variances (not doubling in size-Ludacris). Parking garage, should be 2 levels on Hudson, then another 2 level garage at another location (Ken Smith, behind BOE building, or Hillman? Shoving overdevelopment down our throats is the reason all these are on hold. We need logical decision making and that’s what our new council will bring. Can someone please remove that illegal wall in front of the Greek Restaurant! Can anyone explain who and why this was allowed?

Please vote NO on the big garage. Once again we see the Hudson St lot with many open spaces on a busy Saturday. Everyone is in town, school is in session, the weather was great, and there is parking everywhere. Available parking in the CBR is the rule, not the exception even on a warm spring day before summer vacation.
