Ridgefield Park NJ , this week the Bergen County Board of Commissioners and I were glad to announce that the County has doubled its public electric vehicle charging capacity thanks to the addition of four new Volta Level-2 EV chargers located in our Bergen County Parks System. Hackensack NJ, Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco and the Board of County Commissioners announce that the Bergen County Parks System is now home to four additional Volta electric vehicle-charging stations. The new Level-2 EV chargers are located in the Ridgefield Park section of Overpeck County Park and offer visitors free public charging for up to two hours. The expansion comes at no expense to Bergen County taxpayers thanks to an existing public-private partnership between the County of Bergen and Volta. The additional charging stations more than double the County’s public charging capacity, which to date has already been utilized over 2,800 times, powering nearly 40,000 miles of free EV driving so far.
Ridgewood NJ, today Bergen County broke ground on a cornerstone ecological restoration project that will return the beloved Wild Duck Pond in Ridgewood to that of its glory days, preserving it for the enjoyment of future generations. The restoration is expected to be complete next year and through the construction of stormwater treatment wetlands as well as the installation of a new pond liner, the project will restore ecological functions of the pond, enhance public use, and prevent the threat of fish kills from lack of oxygen. This is yet another project underway in our nearly 10,000 acres of Bergen County Parks System, which demonstrates both the Bergen County Board of Commissioners and administration’s continued commitment to the preservation of open space, the protection of our environment, and the enhancement of our parks.
Lyndhurst NJ, on Friday morning the County broke ground at the site of the future Bergen County Rowing Center in the southern section of Riverside County Park. Not only will this exciting project revolutionize the sport of rowing in Bergen County, but will also expand once-limited access to the Passaic River for the public’s recreational enjoyment. Once complete, this 14,285 sq. ft. two-story multi-purpose center will provide more efficient and increased boat storage, as well as improved instructional and community spaces. I am grateful for those that have helped make today’s groundbreaking a reality, including our community partners the Passaic River Rowing Association and the Passaic River Coalition.
