Ridgewood NJ, on March 28th, the Ridgewood Police Department received reports of catalytic converter thefts from residents on Corsa Terrace and Lincoln Avenue. The crimes occurred overnight on 3/27 – 3/28. The Ridgewood Police Detective Bureau is investigating the incidents.

Glen Rock Police Report 5 Incidents of Catalytic Converter Thefts During the Overnight hours on Friday

Glen Rock NJ, CRIME ALERT: There were 5 reported incidents of catalytic converter thefts during the overnight hours today. Glen Rock has been lucky up until this point as this has been a major problem throughout the state. Although these criminals use power tools, they are able to remove a catalytic converter in under 1 minute and during the winter time everyone’s windows are closed, making it less likely to be heard while sleeping.

Washington Township Police:  The reason these catalytic converters are stolen so often lies in what’s inside them

Twp. of Washington NJ, recently a resident on our East Side of town had their catalytic converter stolen off their vehicle.  According to the Washington Township Police Department ,”It is, and has been, and continues to be a statewide problem.”

Montvale NJ, according to the Montvale Police Department a few residents have reported the theft of their vehicle’s catalytic converter this morning. Our town has fortunately avoided this particular crime until today. It is, and has been, a state wide problem.

“The Ridgewood Police Department wants to remind our community of the dangers of alcohol. Please drink responsibly and do not get into a vehicle after you have been drinking. There are plenty of ride sharing options available to you before risking your life and others by driving under the influence. We also remind our community of the dangers of underage drinking. If you host a party that has those under the age of 21 drinking, you will be charged criminally.

Fair Lawn Police Department announces a pilot program for Borough residents to have their catalytic converters etched and registered

Fair Lawn NJ, the Fair Lawn Police Department recognizes catalytic converter thefts are on the rise. In an effort to help prevent theft and track the thieves and scrap yards in the event of a theft, the Fair Lawn Police Departmen announces a pilot program for Borough residents to have their catalytic converters etched and registered. We are surveying the communities’ level of interest in participating in this program. If sufficient interest is received, the program will move forward and dates will be scheduled. The process consists of an application of a high temperature tamper proof decal combined with acid etching of the vehicle’s catalytic converter(s). Twp. of Washington NJ, according to Twp of Washington Police there is an overall rise in catalytic converter thefts around New Jersey. The Ridgewood blog has frequently reported how widespread this crime is in Bergen County . Catalytic converters are sought after because they are sold to scrap yards for several hundred dollars per piece, for the valuable metals (platinum, rhodium, and palladium) inside of them.

Second Catalytic Converter Swiped in Glen Rock in a Matter of Days

Glen Rock NJ, on Tuesday November 30th at 1:21 PM , the Director of Security for the Glen Rock Public Schools reported that a catalytic converter had been stolen from a truck belonging to the school district’s Buildings and Grounds Department which was parked behind the Glen Rock High School over the Thanksgiving break.  A review of video surveillance found that the theft occurred on November 25th at 6:40 PM.  The video captured images of two unknown individuals driving up behind the school, one subject used a battery powered saw went under the truck, and quickly cut and removed the catalytic converter from the vehicle.  The video images were not clear enough to record a license plate number.

Catalytic Converter Stolen Off Car at Sikh Temple Lot in Glen Rock

Glen Rock NJ, on Saturday November 27th at 3:02 PM , a representative of the Sikh Temple responded to Glen Rock Police headquarters to report a theft.  Unknown actors entered the parking lot of the Sikh Temple during the overnight hours of November 25th. The actors used a jack to lift a vehicle in the parking lot and then proceeded to steal the catalytic converter from the victim’s car.  The Glen Rock detective bureau is investigating.
