John McCann Announces His Candidacy for Congress in New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District

2John McCann Announces His Candidacy for Congress in New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Paramus NJ ,  Surrounded by his family and hundreds of supporters at VFW Post 6699 in Paramus, John McCann announced his candidacy for Congress in New Jersey’s 5th District.

John J. McCann is a conservative leader who has successfully fought for conservative principles at every level of government. A resident of Oakland, McCann is General Counsel to the New Jersey Sheriffs Association and former Cresskill Councilman. In addition, John served as Counsel to the Bergen County Sheriff and he was involved in the effort to defeat HillaryCare in the United States Senate.

“I am working to protect the American Dream for people who work hard and play by the rules to help create jobs and opportunity for all Americans, and to safeguard the freedoms that are under attack by liberal politicians in Washington,” said McCann.

A practicing attorney, John McCann advises Sheriffs across the state on both legal and policy issues as General Counsel to the New Jersey Sheriffs Association. During his career, McCann has been a legal advisor for many Chiefs of Police, as well as serving as General Counsel for the Federal Law Enforcement Foundation in New York City. In 2010, McCann helped elect the first Bergen County Republican Sheriff in nine years and then he served as General Counsel for the Sheriff of Bergen County, where he played an integral role keeping the office’s budget below the rate of inflation. John was credited with saving taxpayers over a million dollars in inmate medical spending, while at the same time drafting and implementing a new family leave policy that dramatically reduced overtime costs. Most significantly, he is recognized for shepherding through a legal strategy that eliminated a redundant law enforcement agency in Bergen County, saving taxpayers millions of dollars.

“Voters are tired of words without action. We need to elect people who have a track record of actual success,” said McCann. “Throughout my career, I’ve worked to protect taxpayers, keep our community safe and defend the Constitution.”

As a candidate for office in 1995, McCann first proposed a 2% property tax cap for New Jersey and, while serving on the town council in Cresskill, John fought against 10% municipal pay increases. On the town council, John worked to build a recreation center without any taxpayer money, which continues to operate solely through the fees it generates. As a Fellow working in the United States Senate in 1993-94, John McCann created the chart that helped shift public opinion in opposition to President Clinton’s proposed HillaryCare legislation.

“My campaign is to create a more affordable future for families in New Jersey,” McCann said. “The liberal agenda pushed by lifelong bureaucrat Josh Gottheimer isn’t right for New Jersey, and isn’t right for the people of the 5th congressional district.”

“John McCann is the right candidate to bring the republicans back in control of the 5th district,” said Ginnie Littell, Former Republican State Chairman.
John and his wife, Sharon, have been married for 27 years. They raised their two daughters in Cresskill and now reside in Oakland. Sharon is a high-risk obstetrician who has delivered thousands of babies who may not have made it to term. She has repeatedly received New York Magazine’s “New York’s Best Doctors” award in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Their daughters currently attend Georgetown University and Fordham University. In 1981, while on duty working for Brinks, John’s father was shot in a holdup perpetrated by people associated with domestic terrorism.

Doherty Endorses Lonegan for Congress

"Steve" Lonegan

November 30,2017

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Hackensack NJ , State Senator Mike Doherty, (R-Warren), today announced his support for conservative Republican Steve Lonegan in his campaign for congress in New Jersey’s Fifth Congressional District.

“Steve Lonegan has led the fight for every worthwhile conservative cause in New Jersey for the last two decades,” Sen. Doherty said. “And he’s often been out front when few, if any, in the state legislature were willing to stand behind him. But in 2018, the Republican Party will unify behind Steve to take back the Fifth Congressional District.”

Sen. Doherty and Mayor Lonegan have been long-time friends and allies. In 2009, Doherty ran on Lonegan’s line in the Primary election winning a tough battle for the State Senate.

“North Jerseyeans know Steve Lonegan is a conservative warrior, a champion of conservative causes, and a leader in defeating big government scams like Jon Corzine’s toll hike scheme and Governor McGreevey’s embryonic stem cell research bond,” Doherty said. “But voters need to know that Steve is also incredibly loyal and has been a supporter of mine every step of the way. I’m proud to support his congressional campaign.”

Sen. Doherty, a West Point graduate and attorney, has served the people of West Jersey in the state legislature since 2002 — first in the General Assembly and, since 2009, in the State Senate.

“Senator Doherty is the conservative conscience of the state legislature,” Lonegan said. “He consistently fights for smaller government, lower taxes, and more control at the county, local, and school board levels of government. I’m grateful for his friendship and his endorsement.”

Lonegan has already been endorsed by the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), Bergen County State Senator Gerry Cardinale, Mrs. Ann Kievit, President of the Northwest New Jersey Taxpayers’ Association, Rev. Greg Quinlan, President of the Center for Garden State Families, on behalf of New Jersey for a Conservative Majority, Alexander Roubian, President of the New Jersey Second Amendment Society (NJ2AS), and United States Senator Ted Cruz.

Hackensack NJ , Steve Lonegan picked up a key supporter in his quest to break his losing streak and pick up the CD5 House of Representative seat . State Senator Gerry Cardinale, (R-Bergen), today announced his support for conservative Republican Steve Lonegan in his campaign for congress in New Jersey’s Fifth Congressional District.

“Steve Lonegan has been a tireless champion of the Republican Party when no one else would step forward to take on the tough battles,” Sen. Cardinale said. “I’m pleased to be the first state legislator to announce my support for his campaign.”
In announcing his support for Lonegan, Sen. Cardinale said it is imperative that Republicans unite to take back the Fifth Congressional District in 2018.
“Prior to 2016, North Jersey had not elected a Democrat congressman since the Depression,” Sen. Cardinale said. “To defeat the incumbent, we need a candidate who is committed to the principles of the Republican Party, courageous in campaigning, and battle-tested. Not only is Steve Lonegan the only candidate in North Jersey who fulfills those criteria, his opponent, John McCann, comes up woefully short.”
Sen. Cardinale, who was first elected to the State Senate in 1981, has long been recognized as the most influential Republican leader in Bergen County and one of the most respected Republican leaders in New Jersey.
“Senator Cardinale has been at the forefront of every worthwhile conservative cause,” Lonegan said. “I’m honored to have earned his endorsement, grateful for his consistent service, and excited by the momentum behind our campaign to take back the Fifth District.”
Lonegan is the only candidate who has been endorsed by the National Republican Congressional Committee having satisfied significant qualifying criteria that only the most elite candidates nationwide are able to do.

Upwards of 20,000 absentee and provisional ballots outstanding in Garrett, Gottheimer Race

November 9,2016

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ,  Garrett for Congress issued the following statement from Congressman Scott Garrett on the need to count outstanding ballots in the Fifth District congressional race:

“The surge in absentee ballots in the Fifth District goes to show that our voters are engaged in this election like never before. Election officials expect that the absentee ballots will not be tallied tonight and that there are upwards of 20,000 ballots outstanding. A large number of provisional ballots have also been cast, and election officials tell us that those ballots may not be verified and tabulated for several days. The outcome of this race shouldn’t be called until these ballots can be counted.

“We’ve run an issue-based campaign, as opposed to Josh Gottheimer’s campaign of name-calling. During my entire time on the campaign trail, from Hackensack to Hackettstown, voters shared with me their top concerns, which are creating jobs, revitalizing our economy, and strengthening our national defense. I am confident that the election results will reflect these concerns and that voters will choose to send me back to Washington as their representative.”

Rep. Scott Garrett :The economy is broken and people need jobs

Scott Garrett Bergen County

Dear Friend,

We still haven’t seen the economic recovery that we were promised after the financial crisis of 2008 left so many people with no job, no savings, and no hope for the future.

Immediately following the crisis, big government sprung into action and made things worse. It spent more money, created more onerous rules and regulation, and did nothing to fix the broken tax code.

Bailouts and stimulus spending added trillions of dollars to the national debt, Dodd-Frank and ObamaCare created more costly regulations on the American people, and Washington special interests continue to seek out carve-outs and favors in the tax code. The cumulative result of these actions is the slowest and weakest economic recovery we’ve seen in decades.

People are taking jobs that pay far less than they used to make, Millennials live with their parents because they can’t start their careers, and families are worried about their financial future. We cannot continue down this path.

A strong economy can only be built on a strong foundation that grows from the bottom-up.  Main Street—not Washington or Wall Street—needs to be empowered to drive this economy. Here’s how I’m working to help:

Cut wasteful spending – With our national debt quickly approaching $20 trillion, it’s clear that Washington has a spending problem. My amendment to the budget that called on the House to find an additional $30 billion in spending cuts was the only one that passed this year.

Limit the rules and regulations coming from Washington – This year alone, over 80,000 pages of new regulations were added to the federal registry, costing each family thousands of dollars in compliance costs. I support the REINS Act that would force a vote in Congress on any regulation that would cost more than $100 million. Additionally, the Financial Services Committee where I serve has introduced the Financial CHOICE Act to make it easier for people to reach their financial goals.

Fix the tax code and special interest carve-outs – The tax code is broken and needs to be fixed. Special interests continue to seek carve outs through their connections in Washington while average Americans suffer the consequences. I support a plan that would simplify the tax code, close loopholes, and keep more money in the pockets of New Jersey families.

Economic recovery doesn’t start in Washington—it starts right here in New Jersey. Given the choice, I’ll choose the hardworking people of this state over any of the bureaucrats in Washington, and I’ll continue to fight to put the people here back in control of their financial future.

Sincerely,

Scott Garrett

Gottheimer Caught Yet Again with another Image Manipulation

ANOTHER Gottheimer Image Manipulation; Independent Mayor Can No Longer Stay Silent

November 5,2016

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ,  In spite of the fact that Josh Gottheimer’s campaign is under fire with the New Jersey Attorney General and the US Attorney for forging government documents, Gottheimer has been caught ONCE AGAIN manipulating images in an attempt to mislead Fifth District voters.

Friday afternoon, Gottheimer posted an image on Facebook that appeared to suggest Montvale Mayor Mike Ghassali was supporting his campaign efforts. But in reality, Mayor Ghassali wasn’t posing with Gottheimer in an effort to support his campaign. Ghassali and Gottheimer were pictured together at an event for His Eminence Mor Dionysius John Kawak.

Ghassali was livid at this manipulation, and as a result, felt he could no longer stay silent on his views on this election. He not only endorsed Congressman Garrett – Ghassali campaigned with Garrett in MontvaleSaturday afternoon.

“As a politically independent mayor, I resent any attempt to misrepresent my appearance at a public event as somehow an endorsement of Josh Gottheimer,” said Ghassali. “ I’ve known Scott Garrett for many years and he’s an honest and trustworthy public servant.  I know and share his conservative principles and support his reelection to Congress in the 5th Congressional District.”

Gottheimer is a liar who has repeatedly shown – this week alone! – that he can’t be trusted to tell Fifth District voters the truth.

Below is the manipulated image that appeared on Gottheimer’s facebook page on Friday afternoon:

Earlier this week, it was discovered that the Gottheimer campaign had violated both state and federal laws including 18 U.S.C. 1001 (false or fraudulent statement or document within the jurisdiction of the legislative branch of the Government of the United States), 18 U.S.C. 912 (impersonating any department or agency of the U.S.), §2C:21-1 (forgery) and §2C:21-4 (falsifying or tampering with records).

New Jersey Attorney General Christopher Porrino and U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman have been alerted to Gottheimer’s illegal actions.

Gottheimer’s campaign admitted his forgery to the Star-Ledger: “An official with the Gottheimer campaign confirmed that it had produced the ad and manipulated the image.”

THE BERGEN RECORD CONFIRMS: No Garrett Tax – And Debunks Other Gottheimer Lies

Gottheimer failed to pay his personal property taxes

November 5,2016

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Hackensack NJ,  Josh Gottheimer is running a campaign based on name-calling and lies – don’t take our word for it – The Record’s exhaustive fact check exposes Gottheimer’s falsehoods and fabrications.

  • THE RECORD: Garrett Tax Charges Are A Gottheimer Lie: “Garrett has not voted to raise taxes, according to Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform, a group that urges public officials to pledge not to raise taxes and tracks whether they follow the pledge. Norquist said that arguing that opposing spending somehow raises taxes is “too weird for words.” (Garrett vs. Gottheimer: Fact-checking North Jersey’s rough ‘n’ tumble 5th Congressional race, The Record, 11/4/2016)
  • THE RECORD: Garrett Supports 9/11 Responders: “Garrett responded with his own ad featuring firefighters, one of whom is a Republican state legislator who contributed to Garrett’s campaign, accusing Gottheimer of telling an “outright lie.” (Garrett vs. Gottheimer: Fact-checking North Jersey’s rough ‘n’ tumble 5th Congressional race, The Record, 11/4/2016)
  • THE RECORD: Gottheimer “assaulted” neighbor and “bought her silence.” “Gottheimer ‘aggressively intimidated and assaulted’ a woman who lived in a Washington, D.C., building where Gottheimer was condo association board president.” (Garrett vs. Gottheimer: Fact-checking North Jersey’s rough ‘n’ tumble 5th Congressional race, The Record, 11/4/2016)
  • THE RECORD: Gottheimer failed to pay his personal property taxes. “Gottheimer “failed to pay his property taxes on the same luxury DC condo six times.” [Gottheimer] “paid the amount due, $2,433 including interest and penalties, in January.” (Garrett vs. Gottheimer: Fact-checking North Jersey’s rough ‘n’ tumble 5th Congressional race, The Record, 11/4/2016)
  • THE RECORD: Gottheimer supports “outrageous Washington spending.” “Gottheimer supported spending millions of tax dollars on studies to determine “if a bumblebee is hairier than a squirrel, to monitor shrimp on a treadmill, and wine-tasting parties in India.” (Garrett vs. Gottheimer: Fact-checking North Jersey’s rough ‘n’ tumble 5th Congressional race, The Record, 11/4/2016)

BREAKING: Gottheimer Fraud Flagged for NJ AG and US Attorney Investigation

Josh Gottheimer
November 4,2016
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Hackensack NJ, The Attorney General Christopher Porrino and U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman have been formally notified of Josh Gottheimer’s deliberate and fraudulent alteration of a government document by the Office of Congressional Ethics in a desperate attempt to mislead the public.

The actions by the Gottheimer campaign violated both state and federal laws including 18 U.S.C.

Gottheimer’s campaign admitted his forgery to the Star-Ledger: “An official with the Gottheimer campaign confirmed that it had produced the ad and manipulated the image.”

Yesterday, the billboards propping up the lies from the Gottheimer campaign were swiftly pulled.

BREAKING: Gottheimer Admits to Federal Crime of Falsifying Federal documents

Hackensack NJ,  Yesterday, Rep. Scott Garrett held a press conference to call out Democrat challenger Josh Gottheimer forforging government documents.

In this fast-breaking story ,Democrat Gottheimer admitted his deceit to the Star Ledger: “An official with the Gottheimer campaign confirmed that it had produced the ad and manipulated the image.”

Falsifying government documents is a federal crime under 18 U.S. Code § 912.

Cease and desist letters were delivered to New Jersey broadcast stations overnight, but Josh now has more to worry about than simply taking television ads down – these actions fall squarely in the jurisdiction of Hillary Clinton’s new friends, the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Garrett Calls Out Gottheimer Over Forged Government Documents Used in Ad

Gottheimer fake doc

Garrett Files cease and desist to stop Gottheimer’s lying ads

November 3,2016

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Hackebnsack NJ, Rep. Scott Garrett held a press conference to call out Democrat challenger Josh Gottheimer for forging government documents. Garrett for Congress legal counsel is drafting a cease and desist order to stop Josh Gottheimer’s broadcast of lies where he falsely claims that Congressman Garrett is under investigation by the Office of Congressional Ethics. The document depicted in this ad is completely falsified and was created by Josh Gottheimer to perpetuate lies about Garrett. Again.

Attached:
Fact sheet

Forged document created by Josh Gottheimer’s campaign

(Click Here to View Livestream of Press Conference)

Congressman Scott Garrett’s remarks, as prepared for delivery:

Thank you everyone for coming today. My opponent’s campaign has been devoid of policy discussions but full of name-calling. He has run a campaign of vitriol and nastiness. And now we have proof that he has run a campaign of deceit and lies.

An advertisement that was produced, paid for, and approved by Josh Gottheimer features a document that his campaign falsified. You might have seen the television advertisement that prominently says “Breaking News: Scott Garrett Under Investigation.”

Gottheimer then features a letter on the screen with a supposed investigation on the letterhead of the Office of Congressional Ethics. The only problem is, this document doesn’t actually exist. Josh falsified it, he forged it.

I have never received a letter from the Office of Congressional Ethics about an investigation—ever. And this isn’t a claim or an allegation, it’s a fact.

Josh created a fake government document so he could spread more lies.

This is a disgusting abuse of the influence he has as someone running for public office. My campaign is sending a cease and desist letter to televisions stations demanding that they remove this false advertisement immediately. But it shouldn’t have to come to this, Josh should know better.

To clear up how the ethics process works, any outside group or person can send their concerns to the Office of Congressional Ethics who reviews them for validity. If there is any legitimacy to the concerns, the Office of Congressional Ethics can conduct a full investigation, and makes public notice on their website, and sends a letter notifying the Member of Congress. In 2015, an outside group sent a letter to the Office of Congressional Ethics making allegations against numerous House Republicans and Democrats

Not a single one of the allegations against me was ever deemed worthy of review.

Not a single allegation was worth pursuing.

Not a single allegation had any merit.

That was the end of it.

These kind of complaints are filed solely to get headlines and make political points. The exact opposite is true of the allegations against Josh Gottheimer who bought the silence of his victim, the one he assaulted and intimidated in his Washington, DC condo.

To understand why Josh operates the way he does, you have to look at where he came from. You see, in the world of Clinton politics—where Josh got his training—not only do you learn how to destroy documents, you learn how to falsify them too. I understand that there have been a lot of attacks thrown around in this campaign. And that’s because my opponent lacks the depth of policy knowledge that one needs to truly succeed as a leader in Congress.

Instead, he will lie to get what he wants.

So I’m calling on Josh, right here and now, to apologize to everyone he has lied to. Josh Gottheimer has received millions of dollars from his Clinton friends, Nancy Pelosi, and special interests. He should use that money to put an ad up apologizing to the people of New Jersey. Or better yet, how about spending the next six days stuffing envelopes with signed apologies.

As a matter of fact, I’ll give you a head start.

Feel free to come to my office and grab some envelopes to start your letter-writing campaign now.

I know Josh will spin this story by issuing a statement after this event, but here are the questions Josh needs to answer:

  • Why did you lie to the voters?
  • Why did you forge a government document?
  • And why should the people of New Jersey ever trust you again?

Jersey values are not lying or name calling to get power at all costs.

Josh has to answer to the voters about his continuous lies and this forgery.

Rep. Scott Garrett Gets Recognized as A Champion for Taxpayers and Small business

Scott Garrett Bergen County
October 30,2016
the staff of the Ridgewood blog
Ridgewood NJ, Every time any of us look at our paycheck, we are painfully reminded that taxes are too high.
Since taking control two years ago, Bergen County Democrats have RAISED COUNTY TAXES (not even including school and municipal) by a STAGGERING THIRTY FOUR MILLION DOLLARS — that’s more than FIVE TIMES THE INFLATION RATE!

While , CD5 Rep, Scott Garrett received both Club for Growth’s Defender of Economic Freedom award , the National Federation of Independent Business’s Guardian of Small Business Award and the National Taxpayers Union’s Taxpayers’ Friend award.

Garrett said , “I am proud to have received the Club for Growth’s Defender of Economic Freedom award, the National Federation of Independent Business’s Guardian of Small Business Award, and just this week, the National Taxpayers Union’s Taxpayers’ Friend award. These awards are given to Members of Congress that support policies to fix our broken tax code and revive our country’s economy. They also serve as a reminder that the fruits of your labor belong to you, not politicians or faceless bureaucrats that seek to reward special interests.”

Garrett continued , “Taxes should be designed to meet the legitimate needs of government and no more. That starts with fixing the broken tax code to make it should be simpler, fairer, and lower so that it is not only easy to do your taxes, but at critical moments in life – such as starting a family or buying a home – you have greater peace of mind. The tax code should encourage free enterprise so that wages can rise, jobs can be created, and opportunity for all Americans can be expanded. Simply put, the tax code should promote a vibrant American economy where all families can thrive.

Garrett concluded , “New Jerseyans are frustrated by bureaucrats who continuously waste tax dollars. You should not be forced to compete with powerful special interests over the money you earned. You deserve a tax system that puts the taxpayer first. That’s why I am fighting to keep more of your money in your own pocket instead of sending it to Washington to be wasted by bureaucrats.”

Josh Gottheimer’s $2 billion conflict of interest that is the Clinton Foundation

Josh Gottheimer

October 29,2016

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, News has just broken that the FBI is reopening its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails. Will Josh Gottheimer FINALLY denounce Clinton’s unscrupulous actions and the Clinton Foundation improprieties?

If Josh Gottheimer refuses to denounce Hillary Clinton, it shows that he is beholden to the Clinton network as a result of their efforts – documented in the Wikileaks email releases – to help him buy a seat in Congress. It also shows that he accepts their belief that some people are “above the law,” as shown by Josh’s own actions in refusing to pay his taxes and his lack of transparency relating to the settlement after his assault of a woman.

Josh Gottheimer cannot honestly say he is running to represent the interests of the Fifth District, when he still supports the Clintons and the $2 billion conflict of interest that is the Clinton Foundation.

Gottheimer Ducks Debate with Garrett

October 28,2016

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ,  After months of name calling Gottheimer is a no showDespite claiming he would be available to debate “any day,” Josh Gottheimer conveniently accepted a competing invitation in order to avoid debating Rep. Scott Garrett. Garrett for Congress has now learned that this competing debate was canceled last week, and yet Gottheimer chose to hide from tonight’s debate at Congregation Bnai Yeshurun.

“Josh Gottheimer is a liar,” said Garrett for Congress Campaign Manager Sarah Neibart. “He claimed he would be willing to debate Congressman Garrett, but Gottheimer is obviously only interested in political posturing – not actually explaining to Fifth District voters where he stands on the issues.”

This latest attempt at obfuscation comes on the heels of Gottheimer’s attempted cover-up of allegations he aggressively intimidated and assaulted a woman. He’s repeatedly lied to reporters, saying, “there was no settlement,” when in fact, there was.

Josh Gottheimer is a political insider willing to lie and scheme his way into Congress. The Fifth District deserves better than that.
