Ridgewood NJ, The opening of Graydon Pool and the Ridgewood Summer Day Camp Program will NOT happen this year. Just announced during tonight’s Village Council Meeting. UPDATE: The Summer Day Camp Program definitely won’t happen. Village Council members have requested a plan be developed to open Graydon at some point during the summer in the event Governor Murphy’s Executive Order that closed public swimming pools is lifted. As of now, Graydon can’t open because of an Executive Order banning same. Opening Graydon as a passive recreation area is also being considered, as is eliminating membership/daily pass fees for Summer Season 2020.

New York NJ, New York Govenour Andrew Cuomo said yesterday that Healthcare workers who came from around the country to help fight the coronavirus outbreak in New York will still have to pay state income taxes. The taxes would also affect Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian aid organization that set up a temporary hospital in Central Park.

The issue first arose when Samaritan’s Purse was setting up its emergency field hospital, according to New York City-based PIX11 News. The charity’s comptroller noticed that a New York state law requires anyone working in the state for more than 14 days to pay income tax. There’s no exemption for coronavirus relief.

Rivervale NJ,  Assemblywomen Holly Schepisi calls Governor Murphy’s lack of planning  for reopening the New Jersey economy ,”This will be disastrous for every small business in our State. We must allow for safely reopening segments of our economy. Yes, this virus is serious. Yes, people have gotten very ill and some have died including people I know personally. Unfortunately a large majority of those who have died in Bergen County were our most vulnerable residents in our Veterans homes and Long Term Care Facilities. In fact out of the 1,261 deaths in Bergen, 721 of those deaths were residents of our Long Term Care Facilities. ”

NYS and Gates Foundation Will Convene Experts to Answer Key Questions About What Education Should Look Like in the Future

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Albany NY, remote learning could replace the practice of a teacher standing in front of a classroom instructing students in the post-coronavirus area, Gov. Andrew Cuomo suggested Tuesday. Cuomo dropped the bombshell while announcing a partnership with the Gates Foundation to “reimagine” education in the post-COVID era.

“The last few months have been an incredibly stressful time full of change, but we have to learn and grow from this situation and make sure we build our systems back better than they were before,” Governor Cuomo said. “One of the areas we can really learn from is education because the old model of our education system where everyone sits in a classroom is not going to work in the new normal. When we do reopen our schools let’s reimagine them for the future, and to do that we are collaborating with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and exploring smart, innovative education alternatives using all the new technology we have at our disposal.”
