He expressed that no one wants to be back in the schools more than educators. Dr. Fishbein thanked the teachers for their hard work and commitment and expressed they have done an amazing job planning and executing virtual learning for our students. Acknowledging the challenges of remote instruction, he reiterated that educators would prefer to be in school with their students and to celebrate all of the end-of-year traditions that are being impacted by the current public health crisis.
Ridgewood NJ, Assemblyman Brian Bergen is calling on Gov. Phil Murphy to begin the first phase of reopening the economy by allowing non-essential businesses to get back to work with curbside pickup.
“There is no reason to delay the opening of retail business to do curbside pickup,” said Bergen (R-Morris). “They should be allowed to do that today. We are in a state of paralysis through analysis.”

Paramus NJ, J.Crew Group, which operates the J.Crew and Madewell brands, has become the first national US retailer to file for bankruptcy protection since the coronavirus pandemic forced a wave of store closures.
The clothing retailer said Monday that it has filed to begin Chapter 11 proceedings in federal bankruptcy court in the Eastern District of Virginia. The company also said it had reached a deal with its lenders to convert about $1.65 billion of debt into equity.
The retailer expects to stay in business and emerge from bankruptcy as a profitable company. Madewell, the fast-growing denim brand that had been slated for an IPO, will remain part of the business. J.Crew has stores in Garden State Plaza, Riverside Square and Bergen Town Center .

Trenton NJ, Two recent reports show that New Jersey had more bridges in need of repair in 2019 than in 2018, although the number of bridges in poor condition went down. According to the American Road and Transportation Builders Association Bridge Report, New Jersey had 2,357 bridges in need of repairs in 2019, with an estimated cost of $9.9 billion. This is up from 2018, when NJ had 2,305 bridges in need of repair with an estimated cost of $7 billion. The average age of bridges in New Jersey is 55 years old.
TRENTON NJ, To further address the ongoing fiscal disruption and uncertainties caused by COVID-19, Governor Phil Murphy today signed Executive Order No. 137, rescinding Executive Order No. 73 (2019), which directed the Department of the Treasury to achieve a $1.276 billion surplus by the end of this current fiscal year.
“No one has been more committed to restoring our state’s fiscal foundation than I have,” said Governor Murphy. “We have spent the past two years working nonstop to build surpluses and put money aside for a rainy day fund. However, in the absence of significant federal assistance, we are on the brink of having to make very tough fiscal decisions, and a $1.28 billion surplus for this fiscal year is no longer realistic.”
