Mahwah NJ, the Mahwah Republican Club is holding a fundraiser on March 3rd at the Mahwah Elks Club at 630pm to raise money for our annual student scholarships. Over the last two years, we have awarded four winners. We hope to raise enough money this year for three scholarships. The scholarships are based on written essays and are judged on thought formation, organization, and proper grammatical structure. In addition to raising funds for the scholarship, the event will be used to promote leadership amongst our local students. Mahwah NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of THOMAS JOHNSON (DOB: 1/24/93; single; self-employed) of 58 Amherst Street, East Orange, NJ on charges related to five armed robberies of gas stations and convenience stores in Bergen County, NJ on January 22 and 25, 2023. The arrests are the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love.
Mahwah NJ, of the many artists and writers who lived in Cragemere, poet Joyce Kilmer may be the most famous. Kilmer was born December 6, 1886, in New Brunswick, NJ. He moved to Cragmere in 1912, while working as a special reporter for the New York Times Magazine. A fellow commuter would recall that Kilmer was never dressed for work on time and was busy putting himself together on the school bus that dropped them off at the train station.

Mahwah NJ, Ramapo College of New Jersey, the State’s public liberal arts college, today launched the Ramapo College Investigative Genetic Genealogy Center (IGG Center), the first Center of its kind to offer case work, research, and hands-on education in investigative genetic genealogy. The vision of the innovative new Center is to secure justice through the ethical and proficient use of investigative genetic genealogy to support the resolution of cases involving wrongful convictions, unidentified human remains, and violent crime. The first class of students in the Center’s IGG Certificate Program will enroll in the Spring of 2023.

Mahwah NJ, a collision involving a rolled over dump truck reeked havoc for drivers on Route 287 northbound in Mahwah on Wednesday morning, 10/05. Mahwah firefighters were dispatched to the incident based on reports that the truck’s driver was entrapped in the vehicle. Basic and advanced EMS support was also dispatched to the scene. Motor vehicle traffic northbound near milepost 64.0 was restricted to one (1) lane while NJ State Police investigated the crash. No information was readily available regarding the extent of injuries sustained by the driver.
Mahwah NJ, a permit has been issued by the state’s Department of Environmental Protection that will allow the installation of a permanent cell tower on municipal property off Rozanski Lane. A tower for the dead zone has been debated off and on since 2005. The current proposal to lease tower space there was approved by the Council in 2017 during the administration of Mayor William Laforet.
Mahwah NJ, William “Duke” Golz, a 43 year old life long Mahwah resident, has declared his candidacy for the Mahwah Township Council in this November’s election. He joins incumbents George Ervin, Rob Ferguson, Jon Wong, Janet Ariemma, and newcomer Ward Donigian- a member of the Recreation Committee and Planning Board, in a hotly contested race for four seats up on the township’s nonpartisan governing body.
