Platkin today announced that 34 law enforcement agencies in 21 counties and the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) will receive grant funding to acquire or expand technology to combat auto theft thanks to $10 million in funding made available by the Murphy Administration.

Paterson NJ, Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin today announced that his Office is superseding the Paterson Police Department, and assuming control of all police functions, including internal affairs investigations, effective immediately. Isa Abbassi, a twenty-five-year veteran of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and its current Chief of Strategic Initiatives, will become the Officer-in-Charge of the Paterson Police Department in May, having been appointed to that position by Attorney General Platkin. In the interim, command of the department will be assumed by key members of the Attorney General’s staff and leaders from within the New Jersey State Police (NJSP).
North Bergen NJ, Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin, the New Jersey State Police (NJSP), and the New York Police Department (NYPD) today announced the seizure of 100 guns and 200 large capacity ammunition magazines (LCMs) that were stolen in transit between a Vermont firearms importer and a Louisiana weapons wholesaler last week. Most of the recovered cargo was found stashed in a Hudson County storage facility. A New Jersey woman has been charged with unlawful possession of the weapons and related offenses.

Cresskill NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of JAMES LANIER (DOB: 9/16/1998; single; unemployed) of 141 Park Avenue, Newark, NJ and CARLOS SANCHEZ (DOB: 1/24/1999; single; unemployed) of 50 Fenwick Street, Newark, NJ, both currently incarcerated at the Monmouth County Jail, on charges related to an armed home invasion robbery in Cresskill, NJ. The arrests are the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office (“BCPO”) under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Cresskill Police Department under the direction of Chief James Domville.

Paramus NJ, no serious injuries were reported in the early Friday afternoon, 01/13, crash of mini school bus at mile marker 164.8 southbound on the Garden State Parkway in Paramus. The vehicle had been traveling north on the busy highway, but veered to the left, off of the paved roadway when its driver swerved to avoid another vehicle. It then careened across a grass center median & all southbound travel lanes, and came to rest on the southbound, right side grass shoulder. A series of injury-free, chain reaction, crashes on the Parkway’s northbound side occurred immediately after the mini bus careened off of the highway. Two (2) mini bus occupants were transported by ambulance to a local hospital; injuries were reported to have been non-life threatening in nature. The mini school bus was driven off of Parkway property by a tow truck driver and parked at a nearby hotel. A dozen or so occupants (students and teachers) were transported to the Paramus Park shopping mall to safely await repair of the bus, or the arrival of alternate transportation. Platkin today announced that two brothers who operate a school bus company in Paterson were arrested Tuesday, Dec. 20, after they allegedly employed unqualified drivers — including some with suspended licenses, arrest records and criminal convictions — all while misleading public school districts about who was transporting their students to school.
Mahwah NJ, the body of a missing 41-year-old man was discovered Saturday. Hector Zamorano, of Mahwah, was found deep inside the 4,000-acre reservation in Bergen County by another hiker on Saturday morning, according to Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton.
Ridgewood NJ, according to NJ Department of Environmental Protection(NJDEP) , a Ringwood man has been charged with the alleged killing of four bear cubs often seen roaming around the borough.
Glen Rock NJ, a downed high voltage electric power line resulted in an hours long closure of Route 208 in both directions through portions of Fair Lawn, Glen Rock, and Hawthorne on Saturday afternoon, 11/12. The energized line also damaged a section of pavement on the southbound highway in Glen Rock when in fell, which resulted in a lane closure once the highway did finally reopen. Glen Rock Police, Glen Rock Fire Department, Fair Lawn Police, Hawthorne Police, New Jersey State Police, NJDOT, PSE&G Electric Division, and Ridgewood Emergency Services units responded to the incident. Additional power lines in Glen Rock were downed later that day when a tree fell in a wooded area near NJ Transit’s Main Line tracks. Wide area power outages were reported in connection with that mishap.

Ridgefield Park NJ, a late Friday morning, 11/04, motor vehicle crash in the local lanes of Route 80 westbound at Mile Marker 67.0 in Ridgefield Park resulted in the temporary closure of all westbound local lanes while emergency crews worked to aid crash victims and to position a flatbed tow truck to remove a heavily damaged SUV.
