Veterans of Foreign Wars is shocked to learn of the 39 additional unreported COVID 19 deaths of NJ Veteran Memorial Home residents

Paramus NJ, The membership of the Veterans of Foreign Wars is shocked to learn of the 39 additional unreported COVID 19 deaths of NJ Veteran Memorial Home residents. The failure to report these deaths leads to the appearance of a cover up by the Administration. While we are supportive of the recently announced Attorney General’s Office investigation into the deaths, it is unacceptable that it took over five months for this investigation to begin. Back in April, the State had in its possession a U.S. Department of Health report which concluded that our veterans, their spouses, and Gold Star parents, were denied the basic human right of a dignified existence. The contents of this report along with the shocking high death rate of the residents should have served as a catalyst to immediately initiate an investigation, not five months later. The lack of transparency and failure to act for five months has eroded any confidence in the Administration’s ability to police itself and the VFW calls on the State Legislature to demand for the Attorney General to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the failures that caused these deaths.

River Vale NJ, Assemblywomen Holly Schepisi , “To be clear I am not against people having the ability to properly and safely voting by mail in New Jersey if they choose to do so. What I am against is a half cocked plan that has no checks and balances. Today my sister who has lived in Texas for 16 years received a New Jersey vote by mail ballot at my mother’s house. This is pure insanity.”

River Vale NJ, Assemblywomen Holly Schepisi : “Since March I’ve been banging a drum about our failures to protect our most vulnerable residents in our Long Term Care Facilities. I started reaching out to the Governor’s office and the Department of Health in late March to ask for assistance and provide suggestions regarding outbreaks that were starting to occur in Bergen and Passaic based facilities. I offered up suggestions such as closing the FEMA testing sites for several days to mandatorily test staff and personnel at the facilities. I begged them to allocate some PPE to the facilities. I offered medically trained professionals to assist with contact tracing. And I warned that unless we took immediate action we would see outbreaks throughout every facility in the State.”
