Ridgewood NJ, readers are questioning why has the Ridgewood Financial Advisory Committee still not met commonly accepted standards used throughout the world?
While the rumor and innuendo spending in an attempt to undermine the Mayor and the current council are being sprinkled around town, the fact is the Ridgewood Financial Advisory Committee continues not to meet the most minimum commonly excepted practices in the Finance and accounting industries.
This taints any advice given by the committee and could open the Village to a whole host of law suits.
Once again in order for the Financial Advisory Committee to be an effective part of the Village governance the following criteria have to be met:
Publish clear and realistic by-laws Post agenda’s of all meetings Post minutes of all meetings promptly All members must sign Financial disclosure forms All members must sign NDA’s or non-disclosure forms
These are professional standards that are used and commonly accepted everywhere in the world.

Ridgewood NJ, Entering our 73rd year, Dads’ Night puts on an annual fundraising show for the Ridgewood Somerville/
Hawes Elementary Schools and general public. Our show is the result of a massive effort from over 280 dads
who donate their time and “talents”.
Our dads are responsible for all aspects of the production of the show, from script writing and making costumes to playing all the parts, providing all the music and of course the hilarious acting! Obviously, it has had some success because it’s been here for 73 years. But the show is just the beginning, Dads’ Night is a year-round organization that is very involved with our community from coat, turkey and blood drives to parent educational speakers and outreach programs just to mention a few.
The funds we raise are divided out between the two elementary schools funding various projects that the schools’ budget may not accommodate. We have recently installed chrome books in classrooms, outdoor community classrooms, eco-friendly water fountains and eco-center. Additionally, monies from the funds raised allow us to help support local and national charitable efforts too.
Our purpose is to give back something a little extra to our children’s learning and educational experiences by following our slogan “Family. Friends. Community.” Our children are our future and ultimately our legacy.

“Unfortunately in a Democracy, some suffer because of the decisions of the majority.” Not always true, in 2010 many of my neighbors and the majority voted No, and Ridgewood taxpayers got screwed when they defeated the $84.9 million school budget.
Votes: 2,639 NO,,, 2,537 Yes…It was rejected by the voters, but the council ONLY CUT a measly $100,000 from the $84.9 Million budget. You wonder why bother to vote on BOE budgets when your vote don’t count anyway. ?

Oh, let’s build a massive parking garage, build 4 or 5 oversized apartment buildings in town, build a water park for Graydon, build a performing arts theater, renovate the library, did I miss anything else?
Ridgewood Nj, It is literally freezing outside today and Ridgewood Crew is having their annual row-a-thon in Van Neste Square from 10-3. Brrrrr….If you happen to be in town, please stop by to give these kids a boost and maybe buy a few things from the bake sale. This will keep their spirits up and it will help them raise desperately needed cash for their team.
Thanks SO much and spread the word
Ridgewood NJ, In what has seemingly become an all too common occurrence, an illegally parked vehicle that was blocking a driveway entrance on North Walnut Street, leading to a private parking lot behind 119-133 East Ridgewood Avenue, was towed from the scene under police guard after having been issued multiple parking violation summonses. Individuals waiting to enter/leave the parking lot were inconvenienced, the vehicle’s owner must now deal with the expense and inconvenience of recovering his/her vehicle (and paying the associated parking fines), and a police officer was tied up during the vehicle impound process.
This and similar incidents that have occurred on Cottage Place, Oak Street, and Chestnut Street, may have all been prevented. However, for some unknown/inexpiable reason, Ridgewood Village Engineer Christoper Rutishauser has steadfastly refused to have yellow hash marked “parking control” boxes painted on the pavement in front of private driveway entrances such as the one on North Walnut Street. Nearby Ho-Ho-Kus has several of these simple and inexpensive “parking control” schemes in use within their business district along Sheridan Avenue (see attached photos).
Just what is Mr. Rutishauser’s objection to such an idea? Is it no good only because he didn’t think of it?
Ridgewood NJ, One (1) victim of a Friday afternoon (03/03 ) two (2) vehicle crash at the intersection of Ackerman Avenue and Bellair Road in Ridgewood was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center by a Ridgewood EMS ambulance. The victim is reported to have sustained non-life threatening injuries when a Chevrolet Equinox apparently broadsided a Honda Pilot. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. A crash related fluid spill was attended to by Ridgewood FD personnel. A Glen Rock PD Uniformed Patrol Division supervisor assisted at the scene with language interpretation. There was no word as to whether Ridgewood PD officers issued any summonses in connection with the incident.
Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood PD Patrol Officer Salvatore D’Amico processed a property damage report in connection with damage to a parked 4-door BMW sedan caused by a downed tree at 1250 East Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood on Thursday morning, 03/02. The vehicle was able to be driven away from the incident on its own power following removal of the tree.
Ridgewood NJ, the so-called “fact checking” of letters to the editor of the Ridgewood news seemed to be inconsistently applied over the years .
Reader says , “over the years I have submitted many letters to the editor of the Ridgewood News (various editors). Any statement not clearly phrased as an opinion was fact checked, often more than I personally considered necessary. I had to supply documentation, explain, etc. Sometimes a letter was edited (always with my approval) and sometimes not printed at all. No newspaper is obligated to publish any letter to the editor in whole or in part. To publish outright lies as flat statements that could easily have been checked was journalistically and ethically unacceptable. This letter was full of them, including the implication that the mayor can fire anybody at will. We have checks and balances; that could never have happened, and in fact did not.”
Yes the practice of “fact checking” was particularly noticeable if your letter was not supportive of the latest scheme to pave over Graydon, build Garagezilla, load the CBD with high density housing, create bike lanes to nowhere , put turf fields in flood plains, let Valley build on its site at the density of the world trade center, build unusable ramps for the disabled at Graydon when far better solutions existed and of course rebuild toilets at Vets field for a cost of 1/2 a million dollars .
Heather is an excellent choice. She is smart, professional, and she is not a bullshitter.
Unlike Queen Roberta, Heather does not have an inflated opinion of herself. She does not insert herself into swearing-in ceremonies down on the floor, nor does she barge into proclamations and honors the way Roberta did. Heather will simply do the job and she will do it well, without playing any political games. Nope, you will never see Heather campaigning for a parking garage or interrupting residents who are lawfully collecting signatures. And she will not shame us by having an ethics violation brought against her at the State level.
Thank God the five elected officials found the best and the brightest for this job. Phew.

A judge has postponed closing arguments scheduled for Friday in a lawsuit filed by Glen Rock, Midland Park and Wyckoff against Ridgewood Water.
Superior Court Judge Lisa Perez Friscia informed attorneys that the arguments would be delayed and a new date would be selected next week, said Gregory Reid, a lawyer representing Glen Rock, Midland Park and Wyckoff in the case.
Ridgewood Nj, in the second tree incident in as many days ,no injuries were reported following the crash of a large oak tree into a single family home located at 527 Hillcrest Road, Ridgewood on Thursday morning, 03/02. Ridgewood PD and FD units responded to the scene after receipt of a 911 telephone call from a passerby. An initial assessment by FD personnel indicated that the structure sustained only minor cosmetic & structural damage, and would likely remain inhabitable. A crew from the Village of Ridgewood’s Shade Tree Division was dispatched to removed the downed tree and debris. A neighboring home also suffered minor cosmetic damage during the incident.

Ridgewood NJ, in a move that makes all to much sense, the Village Council enthusiastically approved long time employee Heather Mailander, to permanently take over the village’s top administrative position.
Residents know Heather Mailander, as the Village of Ridgewood’s long-time clerk. The Village Council unanimously appointed the next village manager on Wednesday night, effective immediately.
She was the acting village manager following the September 2016 resignation of Roberta Sonenfeld and this was the third time she has served in that capacity. Her first time as acting manager came in 2009 for a five-month period after the resignation of James Ten Hoeve. Heather also took over for six months after the ouster of Ken Gabbert in September 2013.
Last night Council members cited her dedication to the village with nearly three decades of service and a tenure marked by a and high level of professionalism, responsiveness and positive relationships she has with professionals and residents alike.
At that time it was asked , “Why is she capable enough to fill in but not to actually be appointed to the position. Another woman running a dept and not being recognized. She is better than Gabbert and Ten Hoeve
Heather Mailander would make an excellent choice for Village Manager. She is highly capable, has a tremendous work ethic, she knows the town and she well respected and liked by both Village employees and residents. Most importantly she has good common sense………..which is in short supply in Village Hall.”
