i still ask this question; how can Paul get away with the walls in front of his business, without any permits? How it continues to be a thorn in many residents of town. Plus, I want to erect a wall in front of my house, all my neighbors are in favor of this just to see what the town does!. Pauls wall is over 3 feet high. Did he have a contractor put in footings to hold wall? Do unsuspecting visitors who park along the wall know that it could fall over? Why can’t we have these ugly walls be forced to be taken down?? The answer really is that the prior council ( which loved Paul) and the new council are just plain AFRAID of this business owner. Why?? This is our town, not his town. Get a grip council!

Speaking of the wall, did anyone see the summary of Vagianos’ housing comments as they appeared in the Ridgewood News? I am hoping they were mis-reported, but as I read them, he won’t comment on his view of the multi-family housing debacle in our state because the Courts are dealing with it.
Has he never taken high school civics? Legislators legislate and judges interpret.
If he does not understand his role as a legislator in our tri-partite government, he should drop out of the race now and go back to school for a while.
I would like to hear Vagianous’ view on housing – – as well as the view of all the candidates – – and what legislation they would support or introduce to roll back these court ordered mandates that are threatening to strangle towns like Ridgewood.
We face the prospect of thousands of apartments being forced into our town and surrounding towns. Anyone running for office must have a view – – a firm view – – not a mealy mouthed missive about how they don’t view it as their job to protect the standard of living for which their fellow citizens worked so hard.
This is the single most important issue we face and we need decisive leadership on the issue, not dithering.

The performance, under the direction of Conductor Dong Hyun Kim, will include: Ludwig van Beethoven’s Triple Concerto in C Major, Op. 56; Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 in C Minor; and Edward Elgar’s Nimrod from Enigma Variations, which will be dedicated to Jina Choi, the Queensboro Symphony Orchestra’s concert mistress, who passed away in July.

If the rates go up, no one will come. Since I can’t park near a business I want to go to, I’m sure not going to pay $1.00 an hour extra for a cup of coffee. The Daily Treat will be among the first ones to suffer. That free parking for customers lot will soon be out lawed. Since the VC seems to be surprised by how much they have to pay so that Ridgewood customers can pay extra to park, what boondoggles will they not be prepared for next? Since they seem to expect that all the new housing will make a profit for the town, maybe that is all we should turn to for raising money? (of course that assumes that water will suddenly leap out of the ground, people will only want to walk so no traffic lights or changes, etc. etc.) Has anyone actually asked any business owner if they would be willing to pay an extra $5.00 per table to earn money at their site? The village just assumes they will be eager to provide free parking so more people will come. Their budgets are squeezed as tightly as they can be, and that’s a big chunk of ever reducing profits. maybe a crystal ball would be more accurate!
Marin Luther nailed his Ninety-five Theses to the door of All Saints’ Church in Wittenberg on 31 October 1517 and started a revolution !
It started on All Saints’ Eve, 1517, when Luther publicly objected to the way preacher Johann Tetzel was selling indulgences. These were documents prepared by the church and bought by individuals either for themselves or on behalf of the dead that would release them from punishment due to their sins. As Tetzel preached, “Once the coin into the coffer clings, a soul from purgatory heavenward springs!”
Luther questioned the church’s trafficking in indulgences and called for a public debate of 95 theses he had written. Instead, his 95 Theses spread across Germany as a call to reform, and the issue quickly became not indulgences but the authority of the church: Did the pope have the right to issue indulgences?
Events quickly accelerated. At a public debate in Leipzig in 1519, when Luther declared that “a simple layman armed with the Scriptures” was superior to both pope and councils without them, he was threatened with excommunication.
Luther replied to the threat with his three most important treatises: The Address to the Christian Nobility, The Babylonian Captivity of the Church, and On the Freedom of a Christian. In the first, he argued that all Christians were priests, and he urged rulers to take up the cause of church reform. In the second, he reduced the seven sacraments to two (baptism and the Lord’s Supper). In the third, he told Christians they were free from the law (especially church laws) but bound in love to their neighbors.

This October 29, 2017 marks the 500th year since Martin Luther made his famous post. Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ridgewood has planned a full day of special activities to mark this anniversary. Please join us at 155 Linwood Avenue, Ridgewood.
A communion worship service will be offered at 10:45 AM. A brunch is being offered at noon (Please sign up on our website, www.bethlehemchurch.live, so we can sure to have enough food). A festival worship is offered at 1:30 PM with the collaboration of the Ars Música Chorale directed by world renowned organist James Kennerley. A reception will follow for all to meet and greet the Chorale and the Bethlehem Congregation.
You don’t have to be Lutheran to attend, nor do you need to wear your Sunday best! This is an opportunity to hear great music, exhilarating organ selections from Mr. Kennerley and getting to hear about Jesus.

We are repeating history. Having the meters in service later into the evening did not work before and would not work now. As has been pointed out over and over, restaurant owners themselves–and whom else are we supposedly doing all this for?–said that customers were complaining. The end time of the meters once again dropped to 6 PM, where it should stay. (This applies also to the Short Line lot on Route 17, where parking to go into the city for the day costs enough already, and a 12-hour meter limit might not even be long enough to cover someone going for the day and evening.) Raising parking meter fees and increasing hours would just make people go elsewhere. Thus the claimed parking shortage might be mitigated by having nobody wish to go downtown. If that’s the goal, we seem to be heading for it.
what? And the town lets that terrible stone wall in front of Its Greek to Me stand, and continually bang every car door? I’d rather have a nice sweet woolly sheep! All the sidewalk cafes which make you run a gauntlet are ok, and the sheep isn’t allowed? baaaaa humbug!
Ridgewood NJ, Valley Hospital will be the only New Jersey participant in a nationwide screening of Defining Hope, an important new documentary about people weighing what matters most at the fragile junctures in life — and the nurses who guide them. The documentary is coming to select theaters nationwide for one night only — Wednesday, November 1 — in honor of National Hospice and Palliative Care Month. Valley will host the screening free of charge on that night at Ridgewood’s Bow Tie Cinemas Warner Quad movie theater at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.) The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Valley Palliative Care and Hospice experts.

Ridgewood NJ according to Village Chief Finance Officer Bob Rooney the Walker Report will suggest Ridgewood needs an increase in parking fees and extend parking hours to cover the cost of a down payment for a parking garage on Hudson Street .
The Ridgewood parking utility , if you are a real old timer you may remember the meters were originally installed to provide funding for a garage back in the late 1960’s .
At Wednesdays Village Council meeting the council heard Village Chief Finance Officer Bob Rooney offer some cold hard facts regarding alternative revenue sources to offset the expected $11 million bond, including a $550,000 down payment, needed to cover garage construction costs.
Increased parking rates come as no surprise for most residents , because since 2007 the Village has conceded that in order to build a garage. The Village last raise rates in 2015 at the urging of the defunct FAC or Financial Advisory Committee . The previous administration led by Mayor Aronsohn had parking rate increases as one of the cardinal feature of building their, “Garagezilla”.
According to Rooney ,the parking utility will only break even this year do to the excessive use of the parkmobile app with takes a 30 percent transaction fee on all transactions , fortunately the contract is up early next year in February and the Village will be bidding out looking for a far more satisfactory deal. The current deal was negotiated by the previous Village Manager Roberta Sonenfeld . Since May 2015 the village has paid parkmobile $143,000 in fees.
Assuming a cost of 11,000,000 for the garage ,the Village would need $550,000 as a down payment .
Rooney also suggested that a financial feasibility study being done by Walker Parking Consultants is expected to advise higher meter rates and longer hours. Without that, Rooney warned, an increase in the utility budget ie a tax increase would be needed to finance the garage downpayment.
The new new Walker study is expected to advise meter rates of $1 per hour between Broad and Walnut streets downtown, and 75 cents elsewhere. Parking is now free after 6 p.m., but the study is expected to suggests pushing that 8 or 9 p.m.
Rooney also added that a new parking Kiosk will be in operation shortly before thanksgiving witch can except credit cards and while there are trans action fees they are far less than parkmobile .
The law of diminishing returns suggest that the Village maybe quickly nearing a tipping point with parking fees , where higher parking fees will cut into demand for parking in the Central Business District . The Village maybe betting that increased space for commuters and spill over parking from the four new high density projects in the Village will fill the parking spaces , but that once again leaves the merchants with no net gain .
