“Its so easy to post anonymous comments, isn’t it? You can say anything you want, and not be responsible for explaining your statements. Re: the posts:
The ad hoc committee had a lot of friction, but in the end a compromise was reached; lets not forget the public paid for the purchase of the property so all views had to be aired and discussed. The results of the committee (and yes, the four of us were the voice of the neighbors, even though I do not live in the neighborhood) were a berm with trees, sheltering Route 17 from the smaller field (NOT the 90′ field which is what the neighbors opposed), and an evergreen tree line along West Saddle River Road, further sheltering the residents . Also, a playground (the neighbors had no public fields previously), restrooms, restoring the house for public use (the neighbors had no community space), and historical markers along a walking trail. The 90 ft field (which it turns out was not needed in the first place) is replaced by a smaller kickball/youth soccer field. Before Isabella died, she understood the need for a smaller field, and was not opposed to recreation areas. The Friends of Schedler met and the majority agreed a smaller field was a good compromise; the vote was not 100%, not everyone agreed, but the majority did. The evergreen tree line was going in along W. Saddle River Road, a plus for the residents who previously had noise and pollution from the traffic along Route 17 from deciduous trees.
Once the berm is finished, the area will be restored as much as possible. How easy it is to attack instead of using your time to help out.”

“The minutes shown certainly provide plenty of TOTALLY IGNORED residents who do not want this clear cutting of trees and planting infant trees on the berm which will take at least 20-30 years based on the town’s planting in front of all the new residences on Queens Court and Kingsbridge. We’ve been here 50 years and have only had to rake in the last 10 or so years. There was nothing on this property when we moved in except for 2 scrawny trees in front. And, according to the history revealed about Schedler “the fighting was done on the rise above the River. ” which is actually my house as we are at the very top of the rise. We all know this property was purchased for the use of the athletic groups in Ridgewood which supposedly was going to provide mega bucks by them for the purchase. “

Reader says , “Council hand picked and created a bogus AdHoc committee and claimed the 5 appointed members are the voice of neighbors”

schedler field 2

“Why are the neighbors, who opposed the original project are supporting this new project?”

How is this a representation of the neighborhood? Schedler AdHoc Committee: Ramon Hache, Michael Sedon, Michael Winograd, Nancy Bigos, Matthew Cunningham, Dan Cramblitt, Tim Cronin, Manish Shrimali, Nick Whitney, Phil Dolce, Paul D’Arpa, Ellie Gruber

Neighbors are not supporting this project. Council hand picked and created a bogus AdHoc committee and claimed the 5 appointed members are the voice of neighbors. The Council completely ignored procedure and the hundreds of public statements given at the Public Meetings. Instead of creating a plan based on required public comments, they went with a plan created behind closed doors-by a hand full of pro field people. FACTS
Here is just one evening of meeting minutes. There are many more.

The Village Continues to Disregard it’s American History and Fiduciary Obligations Toward Schedler Property

Ridgewood NJ, There has been an ongoing debate about the Schedler property in Ridgewood. Artifacts dating back to the Revolutionary war were discovered on this property. Here is a British Lieutenant’s sword, dated 1747, found at Schedler. Also, a letter written by the same man describing his approach to battle on this exact site. Our Village Stewards are moving towards converting this historical, untouched, wooded area into another ball field. The archaeological investigation that was suppose to happen never did. Instead, the Village spent 99k to remove valuable trees and soil, possibly destroying American History. Further destruction was permitted when developers got approval to cover and bury the parcel with excavated soil. Now the Village has ordered more clearing and tree removal. What a blatant disregard for American History and fiduciary obligations.

“Do you think that the Village Council will ever show proof of only clean dirt, rocks, junk being dumped at that site? The new apartments are over old car body shops, repair shops, and a gasoline station. This includes the ENTIRE area being used for it’s filthy, contaminated dirt. They have already shown that they don’t care enough about children to put a crushed coconut field in at the high school instead of the cheaper–and much more dangerous/contaminated as many studies show–crushed tire.”

Reader says Schedler will be Just like Habernickle, Ridgewood residents are almost completely supporting the business at Habernickle. Free lights. free watering, free groundskeeping. free ramp for the disabled and a paltry rent

Habernickel Park Gate House

Please. Ridgewood Villagers, follow the ball on this. It could easily turn into a huge, hazardous money pit like Habernickle. Ridgewood residents are almost completely supporting the business at Habernickle. Free lights. free watering, free groundskeeping. free ramp for the disabled and a paltry rent that was written in the favor of the tenant. Is there nothing we can do to at least make them pay their way if we can’t evict them? Isn’t there a law that says land purchased using Green Acres money may not be used for a profit company. (They probably refer to themselves as non-profit but that should easily be proved to be incorrect. (If she had to pay for any of the services that Ridgewood supplies; then she might be able to declare herself non-profit. But as long as her bills are paid for through Ridgewood, she can’t help but make money on the deal.

Reader asks Would the RBSA and Council bring in someone who knows how to test for actual pollution in both the air and the soil?

schedleraerial-072613-rn-tif

Would the RBSA and Council bring in someone who knows how to test for actual pollution in both the air and the soil? Everyone is chiming in with what they think and what they “know” but unless an expert has done testing, who knows what is true? Such experts check the air and land quality before a school is built. At least in those cases, the children are inside and partially protected. With our children both completely outside and with home plate practically on the highway no one really knows what amounts they may be exposed to. Sound is also a problem but until we have an expert doing a pollution check, nothing more should go forward.

Reader says A ball field and a passive park are usually welcomed in an area that is safe, and non-hazardous. Unfortunately neither is a true statement for the Schedler property

Zabriskie-Schedler_Property_theridgewoodblog

A ball field and a passive park are usually welcomed in an area that is safe, and non-hazardous. Unfortunately neither is a true statement for the Schedler property. Yes, old ball fields remain near highways. Due to the hazardous air pollution few new ones are being built. Has anyone from the EPA come out and actually tested the air quality, especially at rush hours? Do the advocates have even an inkling of the hazards of pollution on anyone’s lungs? Also, a beam of small trees (nothing tall can survive with such limited root space) will do nothing for sound and physical protection. Look back and see how many cars and trucks have come through the sound barriers. Trees won’t physically protect participants near the highway. Also. are you preparing to add a sound system to the field? Without one, no one will hear the umpire’s calls, or the instructions to take another base, or a kid yelling “I got it!” Everyone involved will have to yell and then no-one will hear each other anyway. Parents from quiet areas of Ridgewood should take a drive over to check the sound. See how close you actually have to be to hear another person without screaming. I think many of you have no idea what you will find. If you haven’t experienced it, you really can’t imagine how bad it is.

Reader warns Sorry Schedler but once the ball starts rolling and Your Park is created ( no matter what the size ) the possibilities of what could happen are endless!!

Schedler Property in Ridgewood

Speaking of habernickel. That was a give away to a business ( a friend of Roberta’s). There is a baseball field,- soccer field, parks and rec activities AND a very busy business owned by a private person who lives in NY ( a classmate of Roberta’s ) which brings in camps, buses, field trips, birthday parties, evening dinner parties and so on. Full use of 11 acres…all for $3700 a month!!

Reader Issues a Warning from Habernickel Family Park ……Or they can call it passive and put all kinds of parks and rec sports on it while travel sports are going on at the same time all the while a business is cashing in on our tax dollars with up to 25 cars dropping off and then again an hour later picking up clients and this goes on for hours in a PARK that is also used for baseball , soccer and lacrosse; there is NO passive in Ridgewood. With all this happening at once the neighborhood streets already in terrible shape are more dangerous then ever and at time impassable by pushing parking onto the street because guess what, we gave away 12 spots in the parking lot to a private business. Or they could always keep the schedler Home and restore it then rent it out for way below market value, use tax payers money to put in lights, cameras, walkways and provide all kinds of services for a private business to flourish in a neighborhood. So be weary of any decision on the table…our voices do not matter!!!!

Reader says Schedler be modeled after the wild wooded area in Central Park

schedleraerial-072613-rn-tif

I have suggested to the council in writing, that Schedler be modeled after the wild wooded area in Central Park , NYC. In other words with paths , but otherwise preserved , pristine nature, in all its grandeur. And life giving to plants and animals and us, keeping out pollution, trees providing oxygen, and an inspiration to us all. Here is the link: https://www.timeout.com/newyork/blog/a-secret-section-of-central-park-will-soon-re-open-to-public-after-82-years-051016

It is called the Hazlett Nature Sanctuary. The area is now open to the public.

Dead trees in Schedler which attract insects provide food for birds and are called snags. They could be allowed to lie along the ground, if pose a danger of falling.
But there are enough residents in town who want to destroy Schedler.

After all there is plenty of open space, around town right, around Bergen County, around the country around the world. Who needs it. Above all and most importantly WHO NEEDS NATURAL BEAUTY, nature. If you want beauty go the the central business district in Ridgewood and see all the stuff that is for sale.
Oh do not forget, BE SURE to add a Starbucks on the Schedler property when you develop it properly.
