How hard can this investigation be. The gate is locked during none operating hour. There is no way for large trucks to get in because of the berms and trees. Here is a start.
1 Inspect the concrete for any indication of where it came from such cut off street sign post, concrete stamps, paint
2 Interview all people that have the keys to the gate
3 interview all contractors doing concrete work in the Village
4 interview resident on Lakeview Drive to see if they saw anything ( name on trucks)
5 Apply Definition of OCCAM’S RAZOR

THE RECORD
RIDGEWOOD — An investigation has been opened into the illegal dumping of two truckloads of construction debris behind the village’s composting site along Lakeview Drive.
Village Manager Roberta Sonenfeld said this week that Ridgewood police are attempting to track down the source of the unlawfully discarded asphalt and concrete.
Assorted construction materials were also deposited behind the village’s composting facility, Sonenfeld said.

THE RIDGEWOOD NEWS
The Ridgewood Planning Board’s meeting last Tuesday included a long discussion on a shade of paint at Tito’s Burritos restaurant.
The painting was done, without the town’s permission, accidentally, according to David Rutherford, attorney for Tito’s co-owner Mike Caldarella.
The co-owner of Tito’s had just finished overseeing the painting of a restaurant in another town, and decided to use the leftover paint in Ridgewood, not knowing he was violating any rules, according to Caldarella.
“The painter finished early, and my business partner sent him to Ridgewood, unbeknownst to myself, thinking he was doing something really good,” said Caldarella.
“Our biggest mistake was not going immediately to the village and saying, ‘This is what we did, how can we put it right?'” Caldarella said. “Instead, we decided that we should wait it out and see what happens.”
Mayor Paul Aronsohn, a member of the Planning Board, said it is “unfortunate that approvals were not sought and obtained prior to the work being done. As the applicant’s lawyer acknowledged, that was the wrong approach.”
the staff of the Ridgewood blogRidgewood Nj , To quote Mayor Aronsohn , “Across the board, people just feel that our government should be more responsive,” Aronsohn said. “That responsiveness should come in the form of more fiscal responsibility, in the form of budgeting differently, in the form of better response to cleanup. And then it comes in the form of the daily stuff, not getting emails returned, not getting phone calls returned. We need to change that. We will change that.“The voters wanted new ideas and new commitment to do government right. That’s what the three of us will deliver,” he said.
So from what I am reading, some of you would blame the messenger for spreading the news, instead of blaming the one/s who committed the crime, enabled the crime, and covered up the crime. That makes no sense. Whoever it was that let the news media know, they are to be thanked. Otherwise yet another crime would be swept under the rug.
The truth will come out. Roberta will be unable to lock down everything on this one. Too many other agencies are involved. Neither NJDEP nor the Bergen County Mosquito Control Commission will hide any facts if requested via OPRA. And I’m sure that the RPD detective bureau would not want egg on their faces either.
And Yes, Roberta, you have everything to do with this. First of all, you are the MANAGER. And you are not managing. Second, you want to blame The BLOG for slowing down the investigation. Right, divert attention a la Halliby, – blame the blog when in fact you should have gotten right on top of this illegal dumping. Someone knows all about what happened, that someone should be identified and the matter should be settled. Instead you are tap dancing around instead of taking care of it. This should have been resolved one-two-three, instead you decided to try and keep it under wraps. Here’s an idea, why not send Bulldog Matthews out to interview employees? Pretty sure she will get the facts quickly. After all, she is a LEADS graduate, even though of course you never ever met her prior to hiring her.
Why would Village taxpayers be on the hook for anything here? Fine the contractor who illegally dumped the asphalt and concrete block at the site’s south end over a protective berm. Problem solved, Village exonerated. Where are the VM and the RPD on this, they get paid the big bucks to protect Villagers

Rigewood NJ, Tony Merlino, the Village’s Zoning Officer and Sub-Code Official, announced his retirement on Wednesday, August 5. Village Manager Roberta Sonenfeld, who made the announcement during a Village Council Work Session, did not indicate what Tony’s last day on the job would be.
Tony began his employment with the Village of Ridgewood in August of 1986. He was “top dog” in the Building Department for many years until Thomas Yotka was hired into the that role late last year. The party line is that Tony got the boot because he moved too slow in computerizing building department processes. The backstory is that he ran afoul of a Village Council member regarding approval of final inspections on a home renovation project.
Although he did not have a very big fan club and received often heavy criticism from this blog. Tony is the one Village employee who many of should thank for playing by the rules. Observe the variations in “curb appeal” by driving around some residential neighborhoods a few other municipalities in Bergen County; then drive around ANY neighborhood in Ridgewood. Strict adherence to zoning laws & building codes does make a difference and makes Ridgewood a much nicer place to own a home and live in.
Thanks for your service Tony and best wishes in your retirement.

Ridgewood NJ, At the August 5 Village Council meeting several people spontaneously applauded when Councilwoman Knudsen made an impassioned statement about saving the Schedler House. Mayor Aronsohn immediately shushed these people and reprimanded them for lack of “decorum.” That a positive “comment” in the form of brief applause would be squelched seems particularly contradictory from one who constantly calls for civility – there were no boos, hisses, or comments that would be considered rude. At the previous meeting, on July 15, when resident Jim Griffiths spoke passionately about the discussion regarding the title of Ms. Matthews’ Human Resources position, applause broke out from some in the audience. Mayor Aronsohn said nothing and did not reprimand these individuals. Why this inconsistency? Here’s why: he agreed with Mr. Griffiths and he disagreed with Councilwoman Knudsen.
It is also noted that in some instances the Mayor stops a citizen from speaking at the stroke of 5 minutes, whereas in other cases he allows the speaker to proceed long past the five-minute mark.
The times when an individual has been badgered and verbally harassed under Mayor Aronsohn’s leadership are too numerous to count. Coucilpersons Riche, Walsh, Knudsen and Sedon, Chief Ward and Clerk Mailander, as well as some members of the public, have all been maligned by Mr. Aronsohn, by some of his elected colleagues, or by members of the public who have spoken at the podium.
A mayor should conduct meetings in a civil, consistent, and fair manner. Mr. Aronsohn’s obvious attempts to control the commentary are extraordinarily unprofessional and unbecoming to one who has been entrusted with authority. While entitled to his own biases and opinions, he is not entitled to control the public conversation to his liking by shushing the people he doesn’t agree with while allowing others to go on (or clap on) at length, and by attacking (or allowing others to attack) those he does not like.
Mr. Mayor, you should be ashamed of yourself. You are behaving like a petulant child who is not getting his way. You are abusing the power of your office by running the meetings with great bias and inconsistency. Remember how badly you wanted this job? Well, why don’t you treat this position with respect by conducting the meetings more professionally?
Ridgewood NJ , Ridgewood Village Manager Roberta Sonenfeld has officially confirmed that illegally dumped materials were recently discovered at the Village’s Lakeview Drive compost site during a routine inspection conducted by a NJDEP employee. Sonenfeld’s confirmation came in the form of a statement read during the Village Council’s August 5 public Work Session.
According to Ms. Sonenfeld, the illegally dumped material consisted of asphalt and concrete block and was located at the site’s south end, dumped over a protective berm. It is believed the materials were dumped during the months of June or July, this according to Sonenfeld. Heavy equipment and an operator(s) from the Bergen County Mosquito Control Commission are now being deployed to assist in removing the debris.
The Village Manager concluded her remarks by emphatically stating that an “active investigation” is still underway regarding the incident. No date was mentioned regarding the availability of a final investigative report via the OPRA.
Many taxpayers are anxiously awaiting the outcome of this “active investigation” so we can learn exactly how the dumping was accomplished, who was responsible, who will be held accountable (if anyone) and what monetary liability, if any, taxpayers will be on the hook for.
Price tag for Bergen County DPW facility grows by a Staggering $5 million
This has “Ridgewood parking garage” written all over it

THE RECORD
The new Bergen County public works maintenance facility in Paramus will cost at least $5 million more to build than originally estimated, County Executive James Tedesco told the freeholders Wednesday.
The project, which had been estimated to cost $16 million, has cost $21 million thus far, Tedesco said.
He also said the project, scheduled to open on Oct. 1, is about seven months behind schedule from it’s originated projected completion date in March.
Related: Cost of Bergen County Justice Center expected to grow by $1.3M
Tedesco has been saying for months that the facility was “underfunded.” But Wednesday marked the first time he specified how much more money it would cost.
The DPW facility is part of a larger multi-project $147-million bond issue that also includes a new Justice Center and parking deck and another DPW garage in Hackensack. Taken together, the work is the largest public works project in the county’s history.
Tedesco said the Justice Center and parking garage are close to coming in on budget. The five-story parking garage is set to open later this summer and the adjacent six-story Justice Center is about six weeks behind schedule, he said. The Hackensack DPW garage is completed.
The Paramus DPW facility, though, has undergone several changes in the last seven months that have added to the cost of that project, he said. For example, one building at the site was designed as a cold-storage garage, to store vehicles without providing any heat. But to allow for diesel-powered vehicles to be stored there, the county has added electric heating blocks to thaw them out in winter, Tedesco said.
He said the original design also did not call for the concrete in the maintenance garage to be sealed with epoxy. That change has added to the expense and the time required to install it, he said.
DPW Director Raymond Dressler said another change was related to how the current administration, which took over in January, plans to use the building. Dressler said one garage bay is getting a lift capable of raising large trucks, so that the county can offer heavy-equipment maintenance as a shared service to municipalities and fire departments. He said plans call for at least two shifts daily to work out of the building, rather than just one, which required reconfiguring the space.
Valley is a disgrace to Ridgewood with their actions. Why would anyone support Valley in this town anymore? I believe Hackensack is Top 5 in the country. The 10 minute extra drive is now worth it for me. This town has so many issues. A 3-2 Council, we’re the minority on this.
High Density housing, unreasonable size units we’re given. A 15 Million dollar parking garage? Are you insane? How much did the Town Hall cost in the flood zone. How many studies have we paid for? Let’s do another study. Steel beams and concrete..$15 million dollars, only in RichWood. Town is a disgrace and moving in the wrong direction. I just heard, needs to be confirmed, the Engineer is asking taxpayers sidewalks to be repaired? Take a look at the sidewalks in the CDB. Hint, the red bricks meeting concrete. Don’t ask others to do when you don’t! True
